Trivia tags

Hi. I noted that you tagged the Sylvia Likens article for trivia in the section entitled "In popular culture." I'd refer you to WP:Trivia regarding what trivia is, and what it is not. This says that "the term "trivia section" refers to a section's content, not its name. A trivia section is one that contains a disorganized and unselective list." If you would note, the popular culture section in the Likens article is a referenced list of publications and one film about or based on this case. It's not disorganized or unselective. I changed the title of the section to "In media" and removed the tag. In a similar vein, on the An American Crime article, although the section was actually titled "Trivia," it was not trivia, and a change in title was more appropriate. I changed the section title and removed that tag as well. I encourage you to tag trivia when you find it, but make the appropriate changes necessary when a section doesn't meet the definition. No need to worry, sometimes it's hard to know what the right thing to do is on Wikipedia. The trivia issue has been hotly debated at times. It's more important to learn than not do anything. Being a Hoosier who knew about the Sylvia Likens story WAY to close to when it happened, I'm pleased to see interest in her story from Canada. :) Wildhartlivie (talk) 22:04, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Jared Fogel

Hello,

I reverted your good faith edits to Talk:Jared Fogle. While you are correct that it is considered bad form to remove other peoples comments from talk pages, the exception is from WP:BLP

"We must get the article right.[1] Be very firm about the use of high quality references. Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material — whether negative, positive, or just questionable — about living persons should be removed immediately and without discussion from Wikipedia articles,[2] talk pages, user pages, and project space."

Re: Targets of the WBC

First I would like to thank you for pointing out that GodHatesGoths.com was satire. Still I can't help but feel the part about mentally disabled people was plagarized from the WBC website. If there is any website that deserves to be plagarized and violated, it is the WBC website. Its a shame more hackers haven't attacked the WBC website, or their other domain names or squatted possibled domain names to redirect to the Red Cross like LowTax of SomethingAwful.com did with GodHatesNewOrleans.com.

Secondly, thanks for removing the part about the 2008 floods in the Missouri. The flood only happened about two weeks ago and already the WBC has pounced on my home town like vultures circling an injured animal. Perhaps that was really posted by some WBC member or a supporter living in the St. Louis area. At any rate, we are ready to stop them from making their threats (see my comments on why they are domestic terrorists). These domestic terrorists are not welcome. The First Ammendments allows them to express their opinions but it does not permit them the right to disrespect fallen soliders or to cause misfortune for a fallen solider's family or by advertising their innate beliefs before any musical performance, after any school shooting, or during a solider's funeral.

Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of previously published material to our articles as you apparently did to Meaford, Ontario. Please cite a reliable source for all of your information. In particular, a story such as the one you added requires a) secondary sources for support, and b) some support of its notability. Sorry, I didn't mean to add OR into an article, I was just trying to revert what I thought was vandalism from an anonymous IP who kept removing the section without giving a reason for it in the edit summary. I don't know who put that section in that article in the first place. Having used to live in this town I can say that there was a book written by Jess Stearn called The Search for the Girl with the Blue Eyes and that (as far as I know) the story did actually take place, although the story has become a sort of folklore in Meaford and, because of that, it is hard to separate fact from fiction. I have a copy of the Girl with the Blue Eyes book at my house but I have never actually read it because I find those kinds of books silly in the extreme. I'll read it to see what actually happened. I'll also try to find secondary sources to ascertain it's notability, although since the book was published decades ago, that may be hard to accomplish. There should also be some sort of write-up on Beautiful Joe in the article rather that just a see also pointing to his own article, seeing as his story is a lot more influential to the history of the town. I'm cancelling the above warning, accepting your explanation (and the fact I should have looked deeper into the revision history for the real story here) - concur that the other reverting user (not me, incidentally) should have provided an explanation for the deletion. Perhaps a better approach would be having an article on the book in question, if notable and verifiable enough, then a link from Meaford, Ontario if that community figures prominently. List of serial killers by country

  • Abdullah Shah – Identifying him as a serial killer based on the limited, unverifiable information in the article could be considered original research
  • Ricardo Caputo – The article does not make it clear whether he is considered by experts and/or general media to be a serial killer or mass murderer.
  • Dennis Allen – The article says he died awaiting trial for murder; however, he is not identified as a serial killer.

I really didn't mean to do any harm I just was reading the page and thought I could fix two broken tables (the Current Nexus and Former Nexus tables) I did not know that thoses tables were in that brpken state due to previous edits that made them that way. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I saw you took down the section on the Zelda media page, and I'm completely fine with that. However, what I do not understand is that Paper Mario: Color Splash is already listed on the Paper Mario pages, when that game has yet to come out. Upcoming products should not be included on a listing of the franchise's media until the product is actually on store shelves to avoid situations like vaporware or outright cancellations. As this website has over 5.1 million pages policing all of them is an impossibility so occasional violations are to be expected. Please read that Crystal Ball page you keep linking, it says things such as: "All articles about anticipated events must be verifiable, and the subject matter must be of sufficiently wide interest that it would merit an article if the event had already occurred", "Individual scheduled or expected future events should be included only if the event is notable and almost certain to take place." and "Until such time that more encyclopedic knowledge about the product can be verified, product announcements should be merged to a larger topic (such as an article about [...] a series of products)". This product originally had a release date of 2014; it has since been delayed three times to 2015, then 2016 and now 2017. Suspiciously, even though this product is supposed to be a launch title for the upcoming console codenamed NX, there is no release date now other than "2017" even though the NX itself has a more specific release date of "March 2017." This game is an exquisite example of vaporware and if it is included should probably be included under a new section titled "Upcoming games" or such. I do concede however that your reading of WP:CRYSTALBALL is correct in the BotW has "sufficiently wide interest that it would merit an article if the event had already occurred" and there is "knowledge about the product that can be verified," but, I do question whether or not the game's release is "almost certain to take place." Seeing as the current WP:CONSENSUS though seems to be to include it I will thus re-add it to the Main Series section of the List of Media page and if other people want to edit it afterward so be it. -- Millionsandbillions (talk) 17:49, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
