Misterlee errata[edit]

There are a few minor updates/revisions that may add to this otherwise accurate entry.

Chiselgibbon and Night of the Killer Longface were both solo albums by Lee Allatson with no contribution from Jamie Smith or Michael Oxtoby.

The recording session planned with Albini in 2006 never took place. Michael Oxtoby was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and unable to fly. It has never been re-sheduled.

The name JP Smith is incorrect. It should be Jamie Smith. The P stands for 'pirate' and is a nickname, not a middle name.

The name Michael Curtis Oxtoby is incorrect, 'Curtis' being a nick name, not a middle name.

The band has never performed in Europe as stated.

Michael Oxtoby left the band in December 2007 to live in Cornwall, UK. The band now consists of Lee Allatson and Jamie Smith only.

'This Disquiet Dog' is performed and recorded by both Lee Allatson and Jamie Smith with a cameo performance by Michael Oxtoby. It was recorded at Jamie Smith's Owlhouse Studio, South Leicestershire and due for release later this year.

Ok - fixed. Thanks.--Michig (talk) 09:13, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, nice work improving this article. Unfortunately we have a slight problem - you copied and pasted the text into main space after improving it. This violates our licensing terms since it removes that attribution of edits done by other users.

You can fix this one of two ways:

Choice 1
  • redo an additional edits that happened after mainspace pasting in your user space copy (this won't violate attribution since all the edits were done by you)
  • tag the mainspace copy with {{db-g7}}
  • after its deleted use the move button to move your userspace copy to mainspace
Choice 2

Both options have the same result, but the first is easier on our admins. If you have any questions, let me know. --ThaddeusB (talk) 18:49, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the full edit history is appropriate (and needed). Even though you rewrote it more or less completely, you did so using the old text as a starting point which means we need to known where it came from for accurate licensing purposes. --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:08, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Filthy Lucre[edit]

Hi. :) I just wanted to let you know that I deleted Filthy Lucre (band) as a G6, since the actual article is at Filthy Lucre. We run into this at WP:CP now and again. In this case, somebody hijacked the original at Filthy Lucre to advertise a nightclub event. I've restored the original text and left the contributor a note about these situations at his or her talk page. (This hijacking is not unusual; that this person cared enough to do a copy & paste move is. :) At least he or she was trying to preserve the original material.) Anyway, I don't imagine that my deletion of this will be controversial with you, since the content is all at the other page, but since you declined an A7 on it, I just thought I'd let you know. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:31, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thanks.--Michig (talk) 12:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Michig !

I noticed that you were extending the article about Mateo & Matos musical duo. I have created an article about Eddie Matos (musician), but was unable to retrieve any additional references within google, could you take an additional look if you find anything usefull about him ? Thank you ! -- Prunk (talk) 08:52, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Michig ! I am still looking for your assistance, if you have a minute ? I wasn't able to get any additional sources within Google. This article is being marked for deletion. Regards, -- Prunk (talk) 14:09, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

Per your accepted request, I have added rollback rights to your account. Ensure you only use rollback correctly, ie its intended usage of reverting vandalism only. For information on rollback see: Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback in the future, just let me or any admin know. Cheers. Val Bennett[edit]

Wow. Thank you for your excellent expansion of the stub I created! — Hex (❝?!❞) 13:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your appreciation. The fact that there was previously no article about him shows in my view what a long way Wikipedia still has to go before it can be considered comprehensive - a lot of the top Jamaican musicians from the 1940s - 1960s have no article or articles that don't do them justice. I have a good library of books on Jamaican music, so if you have any other articles in this area which could use some expansion please let me know.--Michig (talk) 17:06, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Atlantic Records discography[edit]

There was no consensus to undo the redirect. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 19:50, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting disruptive editing doesn't require consensus.--Michig (talk) 08:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're right, it's a bigger mess than it should be. But given the consensus for other similar discographies to be deleted (and the fact that some actually do want the Atlantic one deleted), something is certainly going against the last consensus. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 18:43, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I admit I went about this all wrong, but if you say that there is indeed a reliable source that should help make this into an article of merit, then I believe you. I just want to see some actual work done instead of this less-than-half-assed list. (Also, do albums only distributed by Atlantic, such as Zac Brown Band's The Foundation, count?) wow, michig, nice article. i love to see an article spring fully formed from the loins of its creator :) - references are perfect, plenty of detail - can't fault it! --Kaini (talk) 23:21, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

...and i never realised MVAL collaborated with Adrian Utley, although it makes perfect sense - the latest Portishead album has some beautiful modular synth stuff on it. i prettified the discog a bit. --Kaini (talk) 23:51, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good editing on Nicki Minaj[edit]

Hi Michig. Your addition of the bio material that I removed from the lead sentence looks good. Hopefully all is good? TIA --Tom (talk) 19:17, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thanks. I think a lot of people trim article ledes assuming that stuff that shouldn't be there is already covered elsewhere but end up removing information from the article. It's better all round if the bulk of the article is written first and the lede added last as a summary of the whole article, but it's not always the case.--Michig (talk) 20:05, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

R&B punk[edit]

I spend a lot of time going through the genre categories looking for made-up terms that should be deleted, which is how I found R&B punk. I agree with your sentiments on the talk page. Given you have reviewed the sources cited in the article, would you agree that the article should be put up for AFD again? WesleyDodds (talk) 12:02, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've been busy on The Jives' entry. Not sure what you mean by your note of 17 Aug:"added genuine sources" - you mean the sources I had added were not genuine? Or does "genuine sources" have a special meaning in wikiland? Johnalexwood (talk) 23:35, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tests[edit]

I deleted the page because its contents were, essentially, <math><math>Insert formula here</math>Media, repeated ad nauseam for 40 lines. Trust me - if I delete a talk page as "test", there was no valid content there.

There are too many different subjects for me to remember the talk page template for each one, and I'm overloaded as is. Feel free to create templated talk pages as needed. DS (talk) 17:24, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

British/English Scientologts cat[edit]

It's about time I added a Scientologist category to The Jive Aces entry but I have a confusion about the British/English aspect of this category. Other members are in as English Scientologists and others as British Scientologists, and others as both British and English. How should they be categorized? If you let me know, I'll clean up any wrong ones, and add The Jives correctly. Johnalexwood (talk) 09:47, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

oops, I've replied on my Talk page. I never know whether I'm supposed to reply on my page or the other person's page where I originally asked the question. It's strange that the thread of the conversation can be in 2 places. Johnalexwood (talk) 10:28, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jon the Postman[edit]

Yes - it's clearly not provable that Longuniongirl is the IP, although there's a very loud quacking sound. I'll keep an eye on that account - if it edits that article again after it's autoconfirmed (or does anything else dubious) I'll block it. Black Kite 18:59, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Satanic Warmaster[edit]

I appreciate your concerns about MusicMight but rule of thumb: the editors are listed on the right hand side of the screen. If the editor is "Taniwha", that is Garry Sharpe-Young, and hence a reliable source (and also something he has edited since the site became user-edited). If there are no other editors the source is still fine. If no editors are listed, the material was written before the site allowed user-editing and is therefore written by Sharpe-Young (this applies to the Satanic Warmaster-related articles at present, and archive versions will be easy to link to). If others have edited a page then reliability cannot be guaranteed. The guy bitching about the SW article clearly does not understand either WP:RS or WP:BLP; an artist's anonymity is not protected under BLP. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 15:21, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Michig.
You have been invited to join the Article Rescue Squadron, a collaborative effort to rescue articles from deletion if they can be improved through regular editing.
For more information, please visit the project page, where you can >> join << and help rescue articles tagged for deletion and rescue. Ikip (talk) 17:22, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

I enjoyed your comments on the member page, welcome! Glad you could join the squadron.

Here to help articles tagged for rescue!

Hi, Michig, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 18:12, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I must have rescued hundreds of articles from speedy deletion, prod, or AFD, and it's good to know that there are other editors who see the value of preventing encyclopedic topics from disappearing.--Michig (talk) 18:17, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright law[edit]

I have noticed your comment about copyright on Data added's talk page, and I have made a response there. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:00, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have now also noticed your edit summary "declined speedy deletion - the copyvios can be fixed without deleting the entire article". This is not the correct way to deal with a copyright violation, as the copyright material still remains publicly available in the history of the article. The correct method is to delete the article and then rewrite it without the copyright violating material. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:10, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

The Dogs[edit]

Re: Your message -

I have removed your proposed deletion tag from this article. The group had both hit albums and hit singles and significant coverage exists. Proposed deletion is for uncontroversial deletions only - any group or artist that has had a hit single or album will not be an uncontroversial deletion. Please also note that if another editor removes a prod tag from an article, it should not be re-added. If you still believe that an article should be deleted after an editor has removed a prod tag, the correct course of action, after making a good faith attempt to find sources yourself that could be used to improve the article, is to list the article at WP:AFD. Thanks.--Michig (talk) 07:17, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information - I didn't know about the AFD page.

Would you take another look at this article, especially in light of User talk:Automaticshoes? It seems we have a block-evading editor who still hasn't learned not to use copyrighted text. I can't make sense of what's taken from where, but it's apparent there's a lot of copyvio stuff. 98.248.33.198 (talk) 23:25, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please state the conflict of interest for Crushed Butler, as we all thought all was ok, as you have re-edted these sections. None of the articles are in anyway breaching copyright as all are public domain etc. The articles were written and used on the album UNCRUSHED, which I own the copyright to from 1998 Thanks for your help

Hi team Can we ask you to hold on this page, and ask exactly what you need to verify all. Both donators Julie Rex and Automaticshoes are new to wikipedia and so am I. Your help in getting this page in shape would be very appreciated.

Hi Michig, need your help again. I've just added http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Wall_%28artist%29 but am worried because I cannot give a single live link since all the references pre-date the internet. Anything I can do to help this article to stay there? Johnalexwood (talk) 18:51, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find anything on the web either. It isn't essential to have web-accessible references, but without them it's difficult (for others) to tell how significant the coverage in those articles is. I presume that you have the original print articles, in which case if anyone challenges them, you could always scan them and put them on the web somewhere. --Michig (talk) 19:03, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I could - many thanks Johnalexwood (talk) 21:27, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scientist Updates[edit]

Hello,

Thanks for your help on the "Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires" page! I was looking for the final song on the table I made that listed the original songs Scientist sampled from to complete his album for ages! It's very much like a scavenger hunt. Anyways, thanks again! Also...you wouldn't happen to know who sings "Extra Time 4" on "Scientist Wins the World Cup" would you? I've been looking for that person/original song too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fulumin (talkcontribs) 20:33, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's "24 Hours a Day" by the late great Hugh Mundell from the Mundell album, which is thankfully easy to get hold of at the moment on CD/download. --Michig (talk) 21:09, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion redux[edit]

Hi. Just a friendly notice to alert you to the discussion here. It concerns the proposed deletion – again - of the article on the band The Shells, for purported lack of notability.--Epeefleche (talk) 20:01, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

louisamarks[edit]

sorry new to this joined wikipeda. Louisa Marks has died of poisoning in Gambia, source are from radio such as choice fm, unqiue fm and facebook, Jemoyson (talk) 21:20, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

None of these are reliable sources. We don't kill people off on Wikipedia based on unsubstantiated rumours.--Michig (talk) 21:54, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The original source appears to be the Dotun Adebayo Sunday night programme on BBC London radio; see http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8263 - that he reported it could be considered a reliable fact, perhaps. Wwwhatsup (talk) 21:38, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We still need to wait until this is confirmed from a genuinely reliable source. The only semi-reliable source that I found states that "according to unconfirmed reports...." she has died. We need something a lot stronger than that. There doesn't appear to be a single reliable news source reporting her death yet.--Michig (talk) 06:16, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Images[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:ModernEnglish.jpeg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 18:44, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
