You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 week for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 22:32, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To follow up, I believe the latest additions you made to Bobby Osborne to be a copy/paste from somewhere, as nobody writes all that content in their own words so well and that fast. Giveaways are that it wasn't cited and that you had to go back and remove duplication. If after the block period you are going to become a serious editor here, please accept that all words must be your own, and we don't have a WP:DEADLINE -- so you can work on your own copy in your sandbox, and get it just right, before merging into the article. Alternatively, you can add small amounts of content at a time to the article, making sure each addition is cited. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 22:38, 4 April 2017 (UTC) [reply]

Request reason:

I work for Bobby Osborne's record label and this content was written for us for Bobby's album liner notes. We own this content and I have permission to reprint it here. Can you please unblock me and reinstate my copy? This is very important for Bobby's new album press campaign. Bobby is 85 years old and has been in the music industry for over 60 years. Currently his entry is two paragraphs. I am trying to make sure that accurate, detailed and thorough information is available here. Meredithcompass (talk) 22:58, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

So you are an undeclared paid contributor, violating disclosure requirements in the Terms of Use while trying to use Wikipedia for promotion. You will need to address that. If the liner note content were appropriate for Wikipedia at all, which it isn't (see WP:V beyond the spam issues), you would also need to provide evidence that it has been released under a free license that allows everybody to re-use and modify it for any purpose, including commercial purposes. A "Wikipedia only" permission is not enough. Huon (talk) 23:08, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

who is allowed to update Bobby's bio? can Bobby himself do it? or can the writer of this piece? i'm not trying to do anything insidious just updating an older artist's biographical information on Wikipedia. would appreciate any help. Meredithcompass (talk) 23:16, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. As far as editing the article goes, see WP:COI, WP:PAID and WP:AUTO. Yunshui  14:36, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I rather doubt there are reliable third-party sources for much of the content you tried to add, such as "features an all star cast of pickers and singers collaborating with Bobby on an eclectic set of songs". Whether or not that's insidious, it's clearly inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you know of reliable sources such as newspapers or reputable music magazines that have reported on Osborne in some detail, you are welcome to point them out on the article's talk page (once the block runs out), but I'd strongly advise you to leave the implementation to uninvolved editors. Of course you will still need to disclose your affiliationw ith the record label and with Osborne on your user page to comply with the Terms of Use. Huon (talk) 00:40, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That text (including the words "all star cast of pickers" as these were Grammy winning artists who guest appeared) came from Dr. Neil Rosenberg, Professor Emeritus, Department of Folkore Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NL, who is considered an expert on the genre of bluegrass and I added the citation to my entry. Again, I apologize and will try to ask Neil to input the text directly or try another solution to update this page.

Only if the content is reliably sourced will we accept it, no matter who adds it. We don't accept content with an assertion of being an expert or having special credentials. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 18:56, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If Prof. Rosenberg wrote that specially for Compass Records as part of your promotional campaign effort, I still would not consider it an appropriate source. If he wrote it for some other purpose and you just re-used it, we're back at "copyright violation". I'll also note that your website does not credit Prof. Rosenberg as the author. Huon (talk) 20:27, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Prof Rosenberg has written multiple pieces about Bobby for many sources, including the International Bluegrass Museum, which was what I initially tried to re-use here. I did not know that you couldn't repurpose an existing piece of biographical information written for an accredited source that is freely available on their website if you cited it (which I did). Prof Rosenberg wrote another piece for the liner notes of the album, not for a promotional campaign and it contains facts about the artist's career. Can you help me understand how I can add biographical information to this page without violating the rules. I am not qualified to rewrite this person's biography, I am just trying to make a freely available existing biography from a reliable third party source available to interested readers on Wikipedia. Can Prof Rosenberg add this piece? I am not required to cite Mr. Rosenberg on our website, per Mr. Rosenberg though he is cited in the liner notes of the album.
