About WP:WTAF on Comparison of usenet newsreaders

Hi! On this page: Comparison of usenet newsreaders you have removed all records whose software names were red (ie not linked to a valid article). While noble, i'm not sure how valid your reasoning is. Isn't the point of having a comparison so that you can compare different newsreaders and select the one that suits your needs? Then, I ask, why remove a lot of useful information? The idea behind WP:WTAF is that useless lists with unlinked keywords are prevented; not to cripple a perfectly good article. If anything, IMO you should have edited the red links to point not to internal wiki pages but to their external websites. --Styck (talk) 13:48, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry I couldn't find a solution. You can shrink it by putting padding: 0; into the style but you still can't control the width. x42bn6 Talk Mess 23:22, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Changing the width works fine here on Firefox; though, there's no way to get it below 2px wide as there's a left and right border that cannot be removed. Also, you have to remember that padding: 1px; is the same as setting a padding of 1px in every direction. So you get a total width of 3px (width+padding) for the background color and an additional width of 2px for the border, meaning you get a border that actually is 5px. Note that, while you can't change the width of or remove the border you can change the color of the right one, for example border-right: red; works. --Execvator (talk) 16:33, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

khtml -> webkit presumption(s)

Your edit in the graphics comparison makes false presumptions, imho. You can't take any khtml features and say webkit gets them automatically. khtml uses "KParts", part of KDE for image rendering anyways. I think apple did NOT port that. Also, for a long time khtml supported more selectors (correctly) than webkit, as their codebases are not identical. So I wouldn't make presumptions based on the "inheritance" unless that feature is part of khtml (not any other part of kde) and was in before the webkit fork. This points to the issue that one of the tables lists "khtml" instead of "kparts". This example shows (imho) that KParts is clearer. --Grey (talk) 20:38, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

IE7 should be in Historical Web Browsers table because it runs on WinXP, the "Operating system support" table is supposed to be referring to the most recent version of the said OS at this moment in time, in this case--Windows Vista. Comparison of BitTorrent Clients

Hi,

Splitting the comparison section back out of BitTorrent client was a bad idea, and unfortunately not one which I caught in time. because of this, for the last six weeks editors have been working on what is now a useless stub (BitTorrent client, which says absolutely nothing except "A BitTorrent client is a program used for accessing BitTorrent") and a comparison which has moved from Comparison of BitTorrent clients to BitTorrent client and now to Comparison of BitTorrent Clients (note the wrong capitalisation on the current title). This really needs to be re-consolidated with the article on clients themselves, as there is very little reason for having a standalone article on that subject - there simply isn't much to say. I'd appreciate it if you could see what you could do on that front. I was about to just revert the lot to the version at the start of October (which would properly preserve the now-mangled page history) but if this can be done elegantly that would be better. I've now crudely re-merged the latest verson of both articles, and will move the whole thing to the comparison page. If you then want to split out an overview of what a BitTorrent client is from there (not something I think is really worth doing) then this can be done without leaving a significant amount of edit history in the wrong article. "Windows Mobile Standard" is the name that Microsoft uses to describe what was formerly called "Windows Mobile for Smartphone". The category I created was for software that runs on Smartphones. please read teh articl again and mark which fact do you want to cited, when I will search. There is nothing to cite! and I will remove the notability-sign for that article, because this browser IS important enough to have its own article!

Articles need to cite published, reliable, secondary sources (WP:V) and need to show how their subject is notable (normally through the general notability guidelines). At present, the article only cites the software's homepage (a primary source) and makes no assertion of notability. Any magazine reviews would be good for a "critical reception" section, and to provide additional citations for the existing material. I figured by "on the page" you mean Amaya's homepage, and I can see that there is a "Press Book" section. I might be able to use some of the online publications listed. Groundhog Newsreader

Hi. I noticed you just reverted my edit adding the Groundhog Newsreader for Android to the list, saying it's "vandalism". FTP Clients

You killed a lot of free FTP clients on the FTP client list based on a comment that links were not there? I don't believe I saw any dead links to FTP clients that are not on the list. I believe you read this WTAF article literally. First it is only advisement. Second, it only speaks to dead links, not information that doesn't have an article. "Wikilinking those entries to articles that do not exist; the result is a red link like this one." There is no linking to the entries you killed.

Scintilla (editing component)

What's the tie-in for Scintilla as an HTML editor? I don't see any direct connects between the see-alsos and the items in the template. (I'd assume an "HTML editor" provides live previewing - something that Scintilla doesn't do by itself, otherwise most text editors could be regarded as HTML editors). Comparison of web browsers

You are not wrong by saying that Firefox is included in some distros. I left the reference, the only change was "Included" to "Yes", it is compatible with Linux, but it's not included in linux itself.
If you really want to show "Included", there is the option to create new entries like Fedora, Mandriva... Daemorris (talk) 16:58, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

The extra whitespace is suppose to exist. There should be space between the navigation template and external links and there should be visible whitespace between the last section or navigation box and the first stub template. Tothwolf (talk) 17:13, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Template:EDonkey

I reverted your revert because the fact remains that DreaMule is a whole different story to eMule Plus which you mentioned. eMule Plus has been developing indipendently for more than four, probably five, years. It actually forked from eMule after the 0.30 releases and did not aim to merge onto all new major features ever since. Some have been added - like support for bigger files - but the case is a lot different with DreaMule. DreaMule is nothing else but a regular mod. It is still based on a recent version of eMule and despite not having updated to 0.49c it has been updated to newer version of eMule in the past.

I kept eMule Plus in the template because it really forked and is not just a mod like any other. You can argue that eMule Plus should also be removed based on this and I would not object this but if you object the removal of DreaMule I will feel free to add other more relevant mods.

This brings me to another important thing about DreaMule... relevance. DreaMule is a eMule based client targeted for the Brazilian market which has no noticeable user base anywhere else. In fact, eMule Morph and eMule Xtreme (which DreaMule is also based on) still have much more relevance in regard to eMule being the two major modding projects at the moment.

I don't know if you watch this page anymore, but there is currently a discussion which might interest you on red links and inclusion (Wikipedia:Write the Article First). While I realize that you may hold the opposite viewpoint from me, I welcome your participation on the page.

Incidentally, I partially subscribe to WP:WTAF (in spirit), and I agree on the deletion of the said clients (aside from maybe Aria), but not for the sole reason that they are red-linked or that red-linked by default means "NN", which is why I'm arguing against. Apologies for my long silence. I thought it would be sensible to have templates like this one: Template:Namakwa District Municipality, to be default closed, like this one: Template:Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, but don't know how to do it. What is the code that does this? Just thought that the information contained in them need not be displayed explicitly in the articles. The compass rose, Geographic Location, was another template which I thought may be best used as default closed, as it takes up quite a bit of space. JMK (talk) 14:28, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

I have amended the first two references. Personally I see no visual benefit. The references as originally presented are in a well adopted style and the style is used consistently.
