electronic payment infobox

Hi there,

I am currently working on the PRESTO card Wikipedia page, and as it is also an electronic farecard, like Oyster, I am basing its infobox on that of oyster. I noticed that you had contributed to this page. I am attempting to add services to the infobox of my sandbox version of the page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:PRESTO_card/Sandbox) and have been unable to add more than 7 services (I need 10) and was wondering if you could provide some insight as to why this may be.

Thanks so much for any help that you can provide :o)

Multi Area Agreements

Hello there! Hopefully I'll catch you before your wikibreak! Just wondered if you'd heard about the Multi Area Agreements (see here? And, if you thought it deserved an article - Multi Area Agreement? I hope all is well, --Jza84 |  Talk  22:51, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London

Wikimedia UK logo
Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

Hi, What is it you find unusable about the colourless header format? IMO we should be trying to move the article as close to the default {{infobox}} style as possible so that in future it can be converted across. I don't think that the loss of the white band (which I can barely see on this LCD) really loses that much clarity in the headers. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 14:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Infact, the plot thickens. This guy was a chronic offender. --Jza84 |  Talk  15:06, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Absolutely. And something tells me that a man/boy with that amount of conviction and drive, will be back again. I just wish I'd gone with my instincts earlier. What's a shame is that some of these socks have driven respectable users to the edge in other areas (User:Jack forbes retaliated against a few of these in a negative way and was blocked - although now I can sympathise to an extent), whilst other accounts caused disruption on several fronts, really damaging any social cohesion that had been established on many topics. No wonder Yorkshirian didn't defend himself well at his arbitration - he had an army of throw-away accounts to use no matter what the outcome.
I feel much more comfortable that some order of events has been established and documented regarding his history on WP. The more evidence gathered, the easier it should be to hunt any future socks down. A bit of a tragedy really- that level of enthusiasm could've been channelled into something very good for the site. --Jza84 |  Talk  16:02, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
I've read through some of the histories of these accounts and passed comment here. Of course I don't want to bombard you with news-updates on this horrid little guy, but given the sustained grief we got, I felt it only right to point out how extreme and profound his abuse has been on WP. --Jza84 |  Talk  19:33, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Smithfield Market

I wonder if it mightn't be better as a dab page, seeing as there is a Smithfield, Dublin famous for its market too? Lozleader (talk) 12:17, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Windmill page moves

Hi, I noticed you've moved three windmill articles giving the reason as disambiguation not required. I've created the windmill articles with the mill name and place as this is consistent with other artices - e.g. churches - where there is a possibility of similar names occuring. If a windmill is not known by a name, then I've used (Placename) Windmill as a title. I'm gradually working through the surviving windmills in the UK, and after that there are many more which either have some remains standing or have been demolished about which an article can be written. Would you please move these articles back to their original titles, or ask an admin to do so if it is going to create a problem with double redirects. 07:42, 9 August 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjroots (talkcontribs)

I've replied to your proposed naming convention on the page created to discuss the issue. Mjroots (talk) 08:59, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
The page seems to have disappeared. Any idea what's happened to it? Mjroots (talk) 07:24, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Deptford cat

Hi MRSC. I noticed you've depopulated Category:Deptford. I've been wondering what your thinking was, and if you had any objection to my repopulating it. Regards SilkTork *YES! 21:28, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I put a note about it here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_London#London_sub-district_categories. We had some discussion at WP:London about categorisation by locality a while ago and decided to use London boroughs only as they have definite boundaries. Then, to subdivide the categories, we use features such as Category:Buildings and structures in Lewisham and Category:Churches in Lewisham. The reasoning for not using sub-categories such as Deptford is because there are over 600 London district articles and there should not be a similar number of small categories. Secondly, the category scope will be different and inconsistent between editors. Some will consider everything in the SE8 postcode district to be part of the category and others will consider everything that was part of the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford to be part of the category. If this is expanded for further locality names in London, the result will be a too granular, overlapping and poorly-defined mess. MRSCTalk 05:57, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
I had a look back and found this discussion: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_May_26#Category:Marylebone. Reading the discussion I see the point about ill-defined boundaries of some areas, though I don't follow the reasoning that that in itself is a decisive reason not to have a cat. Not all categories can be finitely specific, and there will be enough smudging that articles will at times appear in neighbouring and related cats. However, I can see that there is a consensus on this, and I don't feel strongly enough about the subject to drag people through a debate. Thanks for your explanation, I'll leave the cat alone! Local Government in the United Kingdom

I've got a lorryload of local government areas you asked about. Shall I just dump them round the back? LG02 (talk) 12:41, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Please note that pages created by a user, who is later banned, aren't speedy deletable under CSD G5. This CSD only applies to pages created by a user who is already banned at the time the page is created. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 10:37, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

The original ban was much earlier, see Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Daddy Kindsoul. MRSCTalk 15:51, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Looking through Yorkshirian's block log, I found no trace of him having been banned prior to March; he wasn't declared a sockpuppet of a previously banned user beyond a message on his use page, and a section in Category talk:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Yorkshirian which I didn't find convincing. The relationship between Yorkshirian and Squire191 was confirmed by Squire191's block log - there was no confirmation on that level between Yorkshirian and Daddy Kindsoul. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 05:29, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I can't see the point of having policies if we are not prepared to enforce them. This sends a bad message to those we ban. Basically, we will reward them for abusing multiple sock accounts. Goodbye. MRSCTalk 06:18, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I was unaware of any "official" declaration that Yorkshirian is Daddy Kindsoul. If I had G5'ed his pages, too. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:34, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Feel free to give me a nudge about any activities of this user. This is a chronic offender who should recieve chronic restrictions. --Jza84 |  Talk  19:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Creating an infobox

I see you created the infobox for the London buses. I have tried many times to create an infobox, but I can't seem to figure it out. I would like for there to be an infobox that can be used generically for articles on bus routes anywhere in the world. The number of comprehensive articles on bus routes is growing. The type of information that can be used in one is below. If you could do me a favor and create it, I would really appreciate it. Sebwite (talk) 02:11, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

The Good Life (1975 TV Series)

Hello, I was looking at your contributions to articles and discussions about the boundaries of London, and I wonder if you could come to my defence in a discussion on the talk page of The Good Life (1975 TV series) where the user UpDown is trying to insist that Surbiton is referred to as being in 'Surrey, officially Greater London'. I am trying to argue that this is incorrect as Surbiton can no way be said to be in Surrey either now or in 1975 (anytime post 1965). He/she argues that it could be said to be in Surrey in the fictional world of the sitcom, so I compromised with this version 'Surbiton, south west London (sometimes referred to in the sitcom as being in its pre-1965 county of Surrey)'. He/she says my version is too 'wordy' and he is quite insulting, calling me 'annoying' and telling me I should get an account (I will do, but there are good reasons why I don't have one just at the moment). He even says that south west London doesn't exist!? He/she has now started a discussion entitled 'County' on the talk page of The Good Life (1975 TV series). I wonder if you could perhaps back me up on that discussion page, with your knowledge of London and its boundaries. I have told him/her everything about former postal counties etc, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Many thanks, Joshua. 91.107.44.86 (talk) 17:28, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Lists of windmills in UK and Middx

Please see discussion at WT:MILLS re your move of the Middx list. Would you please not make any wholesale changes to the UK list until this issue has been discussed. Many thanks. Mjroots (talk) 18:34, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Can I ask you please not to make any changes to categories, lists etc while this is still under discussion. It looks like the issue re the lists may be reaching a consensus but there are still other issues to work out. Mjroots (talk) 07:45, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
