Thanks Lwotton! I just love Trevor Wright to death and seeing that there wasn't anything out there, I collected everything I could and made sure that everyone knows him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newdeepdan (talkcontribs) 18:13, August 25, 2008

Notability of Luke pickett[edit]

The article Luke pickett has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No really, he's not notable. Please read the above messages carefully. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:41, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What gives me the right? The article had absolutely no assertion of notability according to Wikipedia's criteria. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:54, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, Luke Pickett's article needs third party, non-trivial, verifiable reliable sources to substantiate his notability. I have yet to be able to find any. Please feel free to find some, if you like. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:54, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We can continue this here if you like. Just enter an extra colon to indent your response sections as I have done here.
I did mean to add "multiple" to the nontrivial sources note. As in more than a single solitary mention. The BBC reference would be useful if there was at least one more similarly notable site. However, that article was about "Her Words Kill," and they don't even have an article here. MySpace is generally not considered to be a good source other than a primary source: notability must still be first established by multiple third party, non-trivial, verifiable reliable sources to substantiate notability. Primary sources (as coming from the subject or directly interested parties) have a presumed conflict of interest: even MySpace Records alone cannot substantiate notability because they have a vested interest in the promotion of their artists. Truly meeting Wikipedia's music notability criteria or Wikipedia's notability criteria for biographical articles means that they have made such an impact so as to leave a mark on some aspect of society, i.e. media outlets, academic resources, etc.
Also, lots of artists tour, even internationally, but such events should also leave a mark. If no one wrote about it (besides random indie bloggers), then we can't see it as notable.
Feel free to continue this discussion below. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 19:25, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem so, I just wish I could get a single source, why hasn't anyone wrote about him before? Atleast I tried, I guess. Thanks alot, I'm going to see him in a gig on Sunday, so I'll have to see if I can get a source from him, or some information about any upcoming interviews or something. After abit of digging on the internet and knowing some venues, this popped up: http://swindonweb.co.uk/event/?m=611&s=622&ss=0&c=2309&t=For%20Lovers%20and%20Loners!
How's that?

Lwotton (talk) 19:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A single local venue review probably doesn't qualify. If there were more reviews, we could at least have the bulk of them reviewed to see if they substantiate notability. But not just the one.
I know it's frustrating when you know about a subject, and even others who know the same thing, but proving it to an outsider is next to impossible. However, notability is, in part, precisely the evidence of a subject's impact outside of its immediate sphere of influence.
Don't give up; there's plenty else to be done around here. Your understanding of and cooperation with Wikipedia's standards and criteria is very much appreciated. We do strive to present a reputable resource, but we cannot be the origination of any of it; we only re-present what may be direct evidence, though scattered. Cheers! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 19:43, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the Room Thirteen review really doesn't help establish notability per WP:MUSIC. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luke Pickett, as someone else also tried (and failed) to add this individual. Maybe he needs more time to establish himself? - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 14:20, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
