Purdue template

Michigan State University - FAC comments

I left a comment regarding the article. Though I applaud your getting the article to its current state (you have certainly given the U-M article a run for its money. Seems that when U-M is ahead in something, people at State would do anything to catch up :-), there are numerous problems with wording throughout the article. I would suggest to ask Tony1 for advice on the article's wording, assuming he is still around to help (he almost left after a brutal and failed nomination for administrator). Hi, it looks well written. I've given it a light edit. Please check my inline queries.

Overlinked to the extent that the blue peppering is making it harder to read and of unattractive appearance. Please delink all trivial chronological items, and common words, such as 'student', 'campus', and 'basketball', and many, many more, since WP's not a dictionary (keep 'football', for example, because is links to American football, which is specific to the article). Avoid linking more than once (Michigan). Nothing stops a reader from typing a word into the search box. (See WP’s policy on this at Wikipedia:Make only links relevant to the context; see other information at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Internal links, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Date formatting and Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers)#Dates_linking_convention_currently_ludicrous.)

Abbot—check spelling?
Avoid contractives (isn't, etc.)
Perhaps avoid 'College's', which is a little ungainly (X of the College); same for College of Education's.
Consider using U and S to start University and School, when they refer to your subject (it's a matter of style, though).
'theatre'—is that US spelling? Use a piped link if not.
You really wanna talk about packaging right at the top? As well, that list is repeated further down. Why not just say '... in a number of fields, including music therapy and ...' (Just give two.)
Percent—sometimes spelt out, sometimes symbol used. (I'd use the symbol always, but up to you.)
I've inserted a few commas; go through to see if a few more are required.

Standardizing the MN template

Hi, I know the last change you made to the MN template brought it into line with the other state templates, but I think the bolded text in the side column and top row actually worked a lot better in terms of aesthetics and readability. Template:Colorado, standardization, and text sizes

Hey, Lovelac7, I appreciate your efforts to standardize all the state templates and I commend you for doing a good job. I have a concern about the text sizes — I think that it'd be best if it was at least 11px in size, merely for aesthetics and readability. I am particularly concerned about the Colorado template, because up until the point that you edited it the font size had been 11px. Can this be done for all of the state templates? I wanted to consult you first, since you have been bold and taken the initiative to do something that has been in the backburner for a while. I tried to standardize the Colorado template myself for a little while — you'll see my efforts in the template's history along with its talk page. Great job! Lovelac7, thanks; I'm sure several editors are angry with the prospect of standardization (specifically for Template:Delaware). I myself was very attached to Template:Colorado and was surprised to see it changed before realizing what a good thing you've done. I've been posting sections on each state template's discussion page with a link to the WikiProject U.S. states talk page for a possible consensus on alignment and other standardization issues. Help with Delaware template (copy)

Hi Stilltim,

It looks like you disapproved of my edits to the Delaware template yesterday. In the spirit of being bold, I went through all 55 states/insular areas on Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. states/state templates and standardized the templates. (94% page width, 75px flag in the upper left corner, section headers down the left side.) I admit that I know very little about Delaware, since I'm a Michigander living in American Samoa. That's why I need your help. I'd like the Delaware template to have the same layout as other U.S. possesions, but since I'm not an expert on the state, I could use your input on how best to lay it out. Hello Lovelac...what's a Michigander in Samoa doing behind a computer instead of enjoying paradise? We all dream of being in such places. Seriously, I appreciate your note and will try and share my thinking with you. I have found the "standard" nav box to be very limited, and frankly not very pleasing to the eye. It uses up tons of space delivering minimal information- and much too heavily geographical. It is really not appropriate for use on a biography or historical article. So, being bold as well, I have tried to design a simpler, smaller and more attractive nav box, that is relevant for all articles that can be associated with a state. Template:Delaware is the result. I have also made a Template:PAGeneral box for that state, although I have hardly used it at all. I have also created Template:USCongressTerms for articles relating to Congress, although I strip off the lower portion for individuals and customize it to indicate the years terms they served. see J. Caleb Boggs for instance. From these boxes the reader can move anywhere, not just geographically. I think there is a general tendency to have way too many big nav boxes on these articles, and this is my attempt to suggest and experiment with an alternative. I once created a DEHistory template that looked like the PAGeneral, and used it, leaving the Delaware template a standard. This created a big fuss with certain individuals who did not object to the change, so much as two templates.
I would enjoy working with you on this, but I warn you the merciless editing I have experienced over the past year has forced my thinking way "out of the box" in trying to find solutions. I would love to see the same layout nationwide, and I'm sure my design could stand much improvement, but the overall goal is to dramatically reduce the size and number of nav boxes on these articles by routing readers into appropriate categories...and to make the boxes a little more professional looking. I could go back to two nav box designs, but the Delaware template as you modified it would never be used, because the new design works better for all articles. And it would in other states as well. Hey, Ravedave, you stated on the edit summary of your recent edits to Template:Minnesota that "if standard == ugly then lets go nonstandard." What do you mean, ugly? As far as I can tell, the editors who are participating in the standardization effort are focusing on both clarity and how the template looks. Do you have a problem with the font size or the background color alternating? I see few differences between the current version of Template:Minnesota and other templates such as Template:Colorado (which was one of the very first templates to be standardized). Look what I found!

Rename and expansion

Description: I propose to expand the now-inactive Wikipedia:WikiProject American Samoa into Wikipedia:WikiProject Samoa to be more inclusive of both Samoas and all Samoan-topics. Including the independent nation, with three times the population, would improve (and perhaps save) the existing Project. You could request that the project change its scope, and, if whatever response you got was affirmative and sufficient, change the existing project page, templates, blah blah blah. At that point, you could start tagging the articles of the new broader scope and try to get members that way. Listing it on the Community Portal would probably work too. But you really should get the approval of the project itself before making such changes. Of course, if others were to join the project and agree to the changes, no one could argue that. I dispute your deletion

I represent the Official UF Wikipedia Project, and I am displeased that you nominated to delete the Template:Flagship University. I have placed a hangon to the Template.

In addition a USA Today in 2006 did a Flagship University breakdown. 75 Universities comprise the list, and my template was congruent with the institutions listed.
