---Hi, I dream of horses, how's it going? I've read through the tutorial already but I'm sure having the link on my talk page for reference will come in handy. And although I'm just here to help out with Lost Ark (video game) for now, I'll definitely keep the task center in mind for the future. LostArk.xxx (talk) 01:46, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, LostArk.xxx. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Lost Ark (video game), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- ferret (talk) 15:53, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferret: Is it really a conflict of interest to write about a video game you play? It took a while, but I've read the guides and I believe my situation is similar to that of subject matter experts. Frankly, I don't think there can be any talk of “COI” when all you do is help develop an article on a subject you've previously engaged with. Isn't most editing done by people who want to share what they know? LostArk.xxx (talk) 15:55, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When your only edits are a particular topic that you are named after, suspicion of a COI is reasonable. It's fine to say "I'm just a fan." -- ferret (talk) 16:38, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
