Re: Fedora external links[edit]

The English Wikipedia has an external links policy at WP:EL, which agrees with you (and me) in that "Links should be kept to a minimum." I usually accept three categories of links without discussion:

  1. the official Web site(s)
  2. reputable listings (IMDb, dmoz, etc.)
  3. and reliable sources (of course!)

Any external links that simply duplicate the content of (1) and (2) I usually get rid of; e.g., Fedora already has a torrent page, so we don't need to link anyone else's. After that I prefer discussing any other links that don't blatantly violate policy on the talk page; that's how a rather ugly argument at phpBB got settled — I see you're trying to start a discussion already. :)

If I get time I might try to do some more of the cleaning up you suggested on Talk:Fedora Core#Some points...; the article has been growing organically, I think, with people adding facts but not looking at it from the overall perspective of the whole page. æ²  2006‑12‑19t00:09z
