Songs of Innocence and Experience Evaluative Statement[edit]
Since “Songs of Innocence and Experience” is an illustrated collection of poems, I think it would really be interesting if you were able to add more visuals onto its page. Under the “Songs of Innocence” section, it is unclear what the naïve and vulnerable state is—it seems like it is referring to the pastoral harmony, but at no point does it say specifically state that this is the vulnerable state or why this state is vulnerable. For the “Songs of Innocence” section, are there any general themes found in these poems? I wonder if there was a specific reason that Blake moved certain poems from “Songs of Experience” to “Songs of Innocence.” It could be interesting/worthwhile to see if it was because those poems better fit the pastoral theme of “Songs of Innocence.” Under the “Blake’s Inspiration and Aim” section, the phrasing of the start of the second paragraph seems a bit awkward—instead of “for Blake,” it might make more sense to say “according to Blake.” Also, it would be helpful to include examples of what Blake considers the “natural and physical pleasures.” Let me know if you have any questions about any of my comments!
