Guilty Gear characters

Honestly speaking? Probably not. If you AfD'd one they should end up merged. Overwatch still has a good number of characters that are likely notable (Zarya, Tracer, D.Va, Mercy, Mei, possibly Brigitte?). The main problem with Overwatch articles is they're being written discussing the characters as gameplay elements in the context of Overwatch, not as fictional characters or why they matter as such. Sometimes that'd still work, like how Mei was used for trolling or Mercy leading to discussions about healing characters. Doomfist is definitely...yeah. There might be some notability in discussions about him as a character but I haven't found them. Hanzo's a bit of an odd case though: you can see a real world reaction based off how he plays, so some of his gameplay is notable. But that's still a smaller aspect to discussing him as a character. I guess a good way to look at it is look how Rugal Bernstein's reception section is written, where he's being discussed for his absurd difficulty (to the point freaking Mexico fears him), but it not only bleeds into his character but there's discussion about him *as* a fictional character and what he represents in fighting game. That might be workable into Hanzo. If I was working on that article I'd also try to see more too how that fan fiction ties into him as a character: did it get popular because "well written yaoi" or was there an aspect of his character people enjoyed that a journalist commented on (which is what's needed when it comes to discussing fan works.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 00:08, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

This is a reply to your most recent response to me on the Kiriko merge discussion. I'm including it here instead of there, because it's almost entirely unrelated to Kiriko (I've included the section that is over there, but I also wanted to reply to your other comments without defocusing that convo about Kiriko):

That's fine. More like conversation about a recently revealed character? I mean does the proximity to release make the commentary any less legitimate, or any less emblematic of significant coverage? Because if not, then it would seem to me that that passes the benchmark set by editing policies and guidelines.

I do have an excel spreadsheet with article ideas I have, and the more fleshed out ones have references accompanied. I don't know if that's what would be considered a link repository, but a lot of times (almost always pre-2022) I also just create pages directly on here and go from scratch, searching for sources in other tabs.

Really cool to hear that about Bastion. I mean there's 57 sources on the last version of that article prior to its redirect to Characters of Overwatch. So even if literally 0 of them are considered "sigcov" by other editors, and even if we were to remove the sourcing discussing reception on gameplay elements that you don't see as helping demonstrate significance past the character's in-game context, there's still more than ample of what I would call supplemental sourcing that can be a good supporting cast to build around stand-out sourcing. Either way, I think once the current wave of these taggings get cleared up with on Kiriko and Sombra, I'm going to lessen my involvement on VG character articles. I guess this is open to change, but I'm anticipating less free time in the next few weeks to edit either way, and I like to mainly add to articles in terms of content and sourcing (as well as reference filling, making/adding categories and templates, etc). I don't often get involved in talk page+wikipedia talk page discussions (aside from maybe asking about a source's reliability over on WP:VG/RS every once in a while) and my recent (uncharacteristically frequent) involvement in them has been because of VG-area articles that I have contributed to being tagged with serious notability concerns I felt needed to be addressed. I think that's been taking away time I could be sleeping editing an actual article. And I know I'm able to be helpful with that. And it's not like it's anyone's fault but my own, so I'd rather just hold myself to do what would least contentious for others and most enjoyable for me.

Agree that Winston has become a lost cause, but maybe eventually like with Bastion perhaps (and maybe we should re-look at Genji being recreated at some point). And I do think the Zarya one can stand-alone, agreeing with what you said. I think post-launch characters mostly did have the problem you are mentioning. Except for maybe Sombra, Brigitte, Doomfist, Wrecking Ball, and Kiriko, and maaaybe Moira (though given the discussions on them, that's obviously a mixed bag there). I think the Sombra one will ultimately be fine. I probably wont involve myself too much more with that one tbh. But especially if we can include a condensed section of the ARG, I don't see how the Sombra article wouldn't be able to satisfy GNG as a stand-alone character but we'll cross that bridge when we get there I suppose. @Soulbust: The problem is she doesn't gain notability from the ARG, it doesn't tie into her character itself but the promotion around it, which fits more into the game dev. I found a few. I incorporated a Rock Paper Shotgun (by Natalie Flores) source into the article, and included another CBR source in the refideas.

I've also further added to the Kiriko article, with these new additions being mainly to the Reception section, and I think these edits warrant some genuine reconsideration toward merging sentiment.

@Soulbust: Some thoughts: maybe remove the gameplay section from reception, and minimize other references discussing gameplay. Her gameplay is just not notable enough to warrant discussion and it hurts the section a little due to the size. I'll see what I can do but i don't get why you're saying her gameplay isn't notable enough to warrant discussion (I'm assuming you mean discussion in the reception section). There seems to be a lot of referencing on her gameplay and how the devs designed her thinking about how to basically make a support character that DPS players would like. That seems like her gameplay is notable, and reception on it should be considered and discussed even a bit in that section. But I'll see what I can rework Soulbust (talk) 10:05, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

@Soulbust:Just give it a shot. Generally in my pov, gameplay tends to not be important to cite reception for unless the character's gameplay is somehow particularly notable, something that stands out beyond the scope of the game, and Kiriko's still mainly fits inside. I think if you can pull that out of there, with the sources you have, you might be able to tighten it into a more presentable reception section, especially if you lean into those two large refs discussing her as a stereotype.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 10:28, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Okay I've removed gameplay discussion from the reception section. I don't necessarily agree with a character's gameplay needing to be exceptionally or particularly notable outside of the context of the game but I can agree that in the case for Kiriko, the stuff I removed (or moved to other sections) is more of a gameplay technical analysis than critical reception or discussion (similar to those player profile section on athletes' pages I mentioned over on the WP:VG talk page). Or at least it can be reworked so that it can be presented as more of a technical assessment in related gameplay sections as opposed to being presented as critical discussion.

I don't think there's 2 sources discussing her as a stereotype in-depth at least. The Hatmaker source does mention it a bit, but the Hendershot source really digs into that aspect. The last two sources though (Swanson and Plane) do a good job at in-depth discussing her characterization though, with the Plane one going for a more gender-centered lens on it.

GA definitely a goal but might be a little more long-term than with Pharah just because Kiriko is so new in the grand scheme of OW. Hopefully they'll come out with an art book about the sequel and over time, scholarly articles on Kiriko come out. I think it could maybe pass now, but I'd feel better about it with those types of sources available.

You would be better off with a image of the gameplay to be honest @Govvy:. An image of the box art that shows nothing new to the reader and doesn't understand the subject better isn't going to help. I still don't get it, it's just a scan of an Atari Lynx box, It shows what Atari did when they rolled out the game. Which is completely different to the poster of the arcade machine. And it is the only box art on the page. It's also was the only cover art on the page, what is in the info box, isn't actually cover art. :/ Govvy (talk) 15:56, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

For games like that, the arcade flyer counts as box art. And again it's a fair use issue: wikipedia really limits what you can show in an article. Like think how many games have drastically different Japanese box art. The vast majority *can't show both* due to fair use limitations. Alas, I didn't do the art for Xeno, I only know of one artist for some of the game covers, here is a good article on Marc Ericksen who I've had contact with, if you're interested. I've had contact with some of the old designers, programmers in the past for the Atari Lynx, but what I know can't really be published to wikipedia as that requires secondary sources! Vanille refs

Hi. I've been doing some digging, and left references for Vanille's appearances across the wider FF franchise. I'll probably leave more. They include confirmation of a figurine, her appearance in Kingdom Hearts Mobile, representation in the FF TCG, and in Mobius Final Fantasy as a themed job during its second season. On the Internet Archive, I found the Italian version of trading card album (where he says his full name is Kenzo Sawada), on Brazilian Comics, he appears as a member of the United Nations and a friend of Guile. I think I'll just go put him on the character list.

Garsa Fwip

Hello, so I saw you've been cutting down on the WP:FANCRUFTy pages these past few months (it is about time someone do that), and was wondering whether you could propose merging Garsa Fwip to List of The Book of Boba Fett characters? She is a minor character included in three episodes of the miniseries and no other Star Wars media, in what amounted to a single-scene cameo in two of those episodes, and two scenes in the other, most of the media speculation on her having a larger role in the series because of her being played by Jennifer Beals. The entire (short) reception just talks about being excited to see Beals in a Star Wars series, with IGN even saying it was just a cameo, while most of the other sourcing is to interviews with Beals herself, talking about being cast. Like I have no idea why this page is its own article. The entirety of her role is literally: fails to bribe Boba Fett while providing exposition, fails to calm down a Wookiee, and is blown up. Chun-Li's image

Hi Kung Fu Man. I'm sorry I was keep replacing Chun-Li's image because I don't like how she looks in Marvel vs. Capcom, her face just looks off to me and her pose also. If you don't mind I have few picks for Chun-Li's image. This one from Namco X Capcom [2]. This one from Project X Zone, [3] and this one from Capcom vs. SNK. Villager/Wii Fit Trainer redirects

I have seen numerous video game characters get redirected in the past few months that had zero to few sources in the article. As I explained in my edit summary, per WP:BRD, I reverted your bold redirect since there were enough references that it could pass WP:GNG and there should have been discussions. The next step for you would be to start the discussion and not revert back to a redirect. WP:AFDs should be started to gain a consensus and if you are correct then the article will closed as Merge/Redirect/Delete and there will be consensus as to the issue. @QuicoleJR: Following up with you, I'm going to have to let the bots handle the Mario list: there's just TOO many redirects to go through manually.
