The Living End discography

Have managed to track down a copy of From Here on In: The DVD 1997-2004 and am hoping that it should have full details of all the Directors of the band's video clips (between 1997 & 2004). Also found a copy of The Best of the B-Sides a 1999 release will check it out and let you know whether it is an official release by the band. Dan arndt (talk) 01:47, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately the DVD doesn't give any clues to who the directors for the video clips were. The The Best of the B-Sides was a special release by Rolling Stone magazine of five songs - so probably doesn't warrant inclusion in the discogrpahy. Managed to find a reference to The Living End's video for "Save the Day" being nominated for The International Viewer's Choice Award (MTV Australia) at the 1999 MTV Awards with the director as Joel Noble (who I tracked down as being a Director at Druid Films). Black Ice (album) Track listing...

Just a friendly note, in this edit you changed the track titles on the album quoting WP:MOS. MOS has nothing to do with song titles. If you check out the official website, you will see that the band has written the titles a certain way, and that should be how they are listed in the article. - Adolphus79 (talk) 15:40, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Incorrect. I may have quoted the wrong page, but i am right. View WP:ALBUMCAPS. "capitalize: All other words except for coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, nor), prepositions (to, over, in, for), articles (an, a, the), and the word to in infinitives. Note that short verbs (Is, Are, Be, Do) and pronouns (Me, It, His) are capitalized." Thus, all the iddy biddy words need to be in lower case, there is no exceptions, even if a source which doesn't pass WP:reliable sources (not a third party source) says differently. kiac (talk) 16:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I read WP:ALBUMCAPS before contacting you, and on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums (the talk page of WP:ALBUMCAPS), there is a conversation regarding song titles being considered proper nouns. If the artist who wrote and released the song titled it a particular way, we should follow the same format. Basically, your comments are saying that AC/DC is wrong because they did not follow the MOS, and that's a little silly. I know if I released an album, and spelled a song title one particluar way, I would like to see that that same spelling is used whenever discussing the song (or listing it in a track listing). - Adolphus79 (talk) 22:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

That would be a discussion, not a guideline, lets stick with the guidelines for now, yeah? I can't even see the one you're talking about, you mean the [sic] conversation? That has nothing to do with this issue. AC/DC don't even want their music on the internet, i'm sure they couldn't give two shits about how their song titles are spelt on some encyclopedia. Unconsecrated_(album)

For the interview citation needed part, if I can get permission of the zine's owner to scan the interview....then make a ref thing for it.....will that fix the citation needed. Or you could contact Joel (who sings in The Amity Affliction) about it, as he is the owner/publisher/chief editor forDeath Before Dishonour. Otherwise there isn't really anyway to get a citation as DBD magazine owns the rights the content in its zine. I also hope is did this right, if not sorry. Dude, the stuff you've done is good! Don't be sorry. Just because there is a tag, doesn't mean anything bad. In relation to actually copying the source, i'm not too sure, i've seen it done before but i'm not too sure if it's within policy. I had a quick look through the WP guidelines and can't really find anything concrete (Did find this though). I wouldn't worry about getting copyright exemption, it isn't that big of a deal, plus we can probably add something different anyway. Sory if this is a ramble, i'm writing down as i'm thinking. That site looks like a carbon copy of Absolute Punk haha. Okay, for now, i think we just put down the Magazine, page number and issue number, as a reference and leave it at that. I was wondering if a mention of sentence...that is straight to the point and is a decent ref....would count for the bit about Deadboy Records. the only other ref is the linked site, the label's myspace. Which is where I originally got the info from and from common knowledge...but common knowledge doesn't count for much unless there is a ref to back it up. Midnight Oil discography

You're doing some great work at Midnight Oil discography, I'm assuming you're heading for FLC?

ARIA certifications pre-1997 are problematical, some four or five years ago they promised to release details from their archives but still no show. I've had the same problem supplying certs with reliably sourced info when editing discographies for other Australian artists. I've used McFarlane (which I see as one of your sources).

The best on-line source I know is Australian Charts Portal - Accreditation awards, which is usable to double check with other sources. Currently the only Midnight Oil cert there is Gold for "Blue Sky Mine" in 1990, you need to verify this elsewhere or not use it. Another possibility is to use a Pandora search (if you don't know its an Australian government sponsored archive).

If you do intend going for FLC. What's your opinion on:

• "-" denotes releases that did not chart or were not released in that region. versus "—" denotes releases that did not chart or were not released in that region. I prefer the latter, but didn't change them as I didn't know which you wanted to use. While on this, should this statement be used in tables with no "–" present? Furthermore, some discographies have a "–" in the certifications column instead of blank space, I have used both systems, and if a dash is in the certs column I use "—" denotes releases that did not chart, were not released in that region, or did not receive certification. Again, I'm not sure if you want this.

• Placing all the notes in a section just above the references section? You/other editors may have notes for other tables later.

• Unnamed directors in the Music videos table: what do you put in the blanks? I've used a Note, with a statement like: Director name for these music videos has not been found in reliable sources. But if you're going to run for FLC you'll need a lot more of these reliably named.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 13:39, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

• The Dead Heart was released as a 12" EP, with the second side having Warumpi Band's "Blackfella/Whitefella" and Coloured Stone's "This Land". Does this go into the EP table or as a note for the single "The Dead Heart"? Also called an EP here.

• Various artists album, Burning Bridges contains a track, "Warakurna", by Midnight Oil. They helped launch the album. Does this qualify as 'Other appearances'?

• Another EP? Try Cemetery in My Mind or just a Note for a single with an extended version?

MO @ the Movies

In attempting to track those early MV directors, I ran into David Bradbury who went to Uni with Garrett back in the day (early 1970s). Try his filmographies at fandango.com, IMDb and Australian Screen.

Of particular note are: Front Line a 1979(?) doco with score by MO, Shoalwater: Up for Grabs (1992) with PG of MO narrating and Saturday Night at the Capitol 1982 concert which was later on Best of Both Worlds DVD.

I haven't found a definitive link of Bradbury as director of any of MO's early MVs.

The soundtrack work, at least, is notable since Front Line was nomed for Academy & AFI awards.

See also MO at allmovie and IMDb. Concert footage of MO performing "Short Memory" was used in One Night Stand (1984).

I just came across the One Night Stand link before as well, it seems that it isn't notable if we go along the lines of MOS:DISCOG (Non-original or previously-released material used on soundtracks, trailers, commercials, or any other compilation releases.). "Short Memory" has been released previously.

There seems to be no connections between Bradbusy and MO in those filmographies, apart from Front Line. Here is says that Garrett "worked on" Shoalwater: Up for Grabs with him, but no mention of MV work. They discuss the Capitol recording here and there is no mention.

I'm not sure how we could work the Soundtrack/score work into the list. Maybe bring it up at the FLC? (This would be a perfect reference if it's notable for inclusion) Hopefully something amazing pops up! Fingers crossed. k-i-a-c (hitmeup - the past) 12:02, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I was hoping something would pan out too. Noticed from one of your links that Ray Argyll helped Bradbury with filming the Capitol recordings and that three video clips are identified here but don't think these are the MVs we're looking for.

As for their Front Line work: since it has been released on DVD (earlier on VHS?) then maybe it should be put into a separate soundtracks/scores table? I'll let you decided whether to include this into the discography or leave it till after FLC is decided.

Your 'perfect' ref, together with the allmusic allmovie ref, is good for establishing MO involvement and noteworthiness of the doco. They look to be live music videos, taken from footage of the concert (you've probably figured this yourself) - i got my hopes up when i saw Armistice Day knowing we need that one, but not to be. I wouldn't of thought score work would be notable in WP's system of discographies, maybe it's worth noting in the MO article? Also, is it just PG or the whole of MO? SUCCESS!! have managed to fill in many of the blanks in respect to the Directors of the various music videos! Only missing five out of 37... the main ones I am concerned about are "Star of Hope", "Mosquito March" and "Cemetery in My Mind" as they are the most recent and you'd think there was some information somewhere. I know you are mad at me. You and I both want to make this discography a good list, I'm sure. But when I first saw it, it was not really organized properly. Also there were lots of unneeded things. I just want to clean up a little bit. I know that some of my editions did not fit the requirements, but some requirements are... bad. I am sure we can work together and make this article perfect.

First, for the #1 issue, I just think it is clear. I just feel that "number one" takes time to read, and it is not directly presented... (hard to explain...) never mind, just write number one, because we use it in essays.

I think your original lead is way too long. Leads have to be simple. It just shows what the artist have achieved. Just keep it simple, because tables below will tell you everything. Just need to HIGHLIGHT. If you highlight too much, you will miss the point.

What I did to the tables was just some clean-up. But citation is a big issue. I will try to work it out, but I think separated tables for positions and certs are the best, because the table is TOO CROWDED. All the words are squized together. It is really hard to read. (except you have wide screen computers.)

Let's take a look at what I have done compared to your request:

• MOS states that numbers 9 or below should be written, so #8 → NUMBER EIGHT

..? I am currently viewing the lead section, and i see this occurs 4 separate times?

• A statement that i wrote such as improving on their previous chart performance in both the United States and abroad has to have evidence following it, to back up the claim. You can't just remove that and state it is a clean up, it isn't, it's removing sourced material which is aiming at gaining the article notability.

I will work on the lead later, comprising both of our opinions/versions as best i can. And we can work from there.

• Specific countries can not be generalised into several countries, they need to be specified.

There is not too many, this is a rediculous argument. You obviously don't understand how to citate an article properly. Reliability is what we're aiming for, acharts is bearly reliable for an individual chart, let alone 2 dozen.

If you don't really know about what I have done, please compare. I did reduce a lot of unused things. There are only 3 issue left: references, merge tables, and format. We will put the references back. But I still think acharts.us is enough, and it will stay, because it is a reference for Canadian Hot 100. But lots of discographies uses the collection reference, and they are still feature list. The other two I strongly disagree. We do not have to follow the samples. There is no new and old issue, since the criteria is always there. Now the is no one ever put the single positions table and certs together. For the album part, I will try to put them together. Why will you try and put the album part together? They are already fine the way they are and there is no need to touch them. The only thing you could do is make the certs or details small, which is pointless. The samples are what is expected, you don't just go changing that at your own discretion. Motion City Soundtrack & WikiProject Emo

Hi there. I noticed that you removed the WikiProject Emo banner from Talk:Motion City Soundtrack. I've re-added it because I feel that the article does fall, in some manner, within the scope of the project. I'm not in any way trying to start some argument that "Motion City Soundtrack is emo"...those debates never get anywhere (and I myself view them as primarily a power-pop band). However, they do have certain ties to emo and are linked to it, and there are sources that make those connections. Here are a few I found:

• "Justin Pierre's emo-tinged vocals are charming, and fans of Jimmy Eat World and the like will enjoy that." Allmusic
• "Minneapolis emo kids liven up a familiar formula with quirky humor and vintage synths" Metromix New York

Because of these connections, it's appropriate for WikiProject Emo to consider the article within its scope. Of course it's only of mid- to low-importance to the project, as the band is not primarily emo, but their links (however tangential) to the style do place them somewhere within the broad scope of the project. In the end it can only help to have more projects placing the article within their purview, as it draws the attention of more experienced editors to the article and encourages community collaboration to improve it. I suggest that it would probably also belong within the scope of either WikiProject Punk music or WikiProject Alternative music, as it's not likely to get much attention just being under WikiProject Biography (which has hundreds of thousands of articles in its scope). --IllaZilla (talk) 20:22, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

For every category you create, you should specify parent categories to which it belongs. You can do this by listing the parents near the bottom of the page, each enclosed in double brackets like so:

Australian certifications

Always check the current Australian chart at ARIA. For songs that are still charting, it will list the latest certification, and it can update a few weeks before the certification database updates. Thanks for your comments. We don't want only the 5 major music markets. But since it is a discography page and will include every single and albums the artist has released, hence don't you think it will clutter the page if we include all the countries and certifications? For the particular single page it is fine but to include all of them in the disco page will indeed be overaddition. Thats what I meant. Sometimes these things are an infection ... it gets on one page, and then people start copying it around. As for harshness towards 201.209.224.71, the problem there is simply one of not listening: he was blocked twice for repeating edits inserting bad charts after he had been explicitly told not to make them. You told him last night not to make the edit inserting an Italian position of 14 again, and he did so. Thanks for watching out for bad reverts, but I'd like to point out my edits were within the rules. According to Chart Protocol on this site (More specifically here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Record_charts/U.S._Billboard_chart_inclusion#Hot_100_Sales.2C_Hot_100_Airplay.2C_Hot_Digital_Songs.2C_Hot_Digital_Tracks) if a song didn't chart on the Hot 100, the Hot 100 Airplay should be used. Since the Pop 100 was created until 2005, the inclusion of this chart is not needed. There fore, the Hot 100 Airplay chart should be kept as is. WP:SLASH

I am not really sure why you feel the need to alter the style of 39/Smooth and 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours in the Green Day discography article. WP:SLASH does not explicitly state to introduce spaces where there are none. It instead discourages the use of the "/" altogether. However, as this is the way the titles are style, this formatting can remain. Might be a reference to the Sunbury Pop Festival article which claims DC performed at first festival (other sources don't list them see Milesago). This article repeats the oft made claim that Queen were booed offstage in 1974 (I've repeated it myself), which Wilson apparently disputed on the Spicks and Specks episode according to a new edit.
