Main project[edit]

My primary focus will be expanding on the article of Al Held, an abstract expressionist. Elaborating on his art and exhibitions while expanding on his life to give the article more depth will be a good place to start.

Another terrific addition would be to clean up the references sections, which are split between "references" books" and ...I can't remember. It's confusing. What other sections might you like to add? Aolivex (talk) 16:48, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sources on Al Held[edit]

Hi Joeycut. I'm providing online support for your course and I had a few notes on the sources that you've got for Al Held above.

While you can choose any reference style you like (MLA, APA or one of the house styles on wikipedia), a critical element for any reference is that the reference itself contains enough information for someone to locate the work independently. So a newspaper article would have (at a minimum) the paper, the title (if it has one), the byline (if it has one) and the publication date. Preferably it would also have the page, but that's not always necessary for wikipedia articles. The books you have listed have an author and a year but without an ISBN (since many of them don't have ISBNs), some more information (like the publisher & place of publication) can be very helpful for a volunteer editor or critical reader checking the claims you may make.

There may also be a number of sources in journals as well, which can help offer some context for claims you might wish to make about the interpretation or importance of Held's works. Many searches for those journal articles will be confounded by gallery exhibitions (which are indexed in google scholar and google books), but I think there are a few out there.

Let me know if you need a hand formatting sources, finding new ones or integrating same into your article. Thanks! Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:38, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, I found the ISBN for my one book however while searching for the ISBN's in the other books I couldn't find them. Ill keep looking but I might have to ask the librarians if all else fails. Joeycut (talk) 19:03, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some of them may not have ISBNs if they were printed for an exhibition or for some other one-off event. Those are the ones where it is critical to have some other meta-data. You can also search worldcat by subject to try and find some more info (They often have much better data than google books). Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:24, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
