what is a sandbox? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.118.52.98 (talk) 01:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello, a sandbox is a temporary page that you can use to work on an article. Usually, you need to register a user name, and then create a sandbox as a subpage of your user page, like this: "User:USERNAME/sandbox". After you are satisfied with the draft article in your sandbox, you can copy and paste it to the main article. For more help, see "Wikipedia:New contributors' help page". — Cheers, JackLee talk 07:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:OetzitheIceman-glacier-199109b.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:OetzitheIceman-glacier-199109b.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:33, 2 March 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Damiens.rf 02:33, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Belitung shipwreck pics

Hi :¬)

Thank you ever so much for those pictures! they made me really happy...I have been waiting for someone to get over to the exhibition and post something and you have certainly made the article proud.

I was hoping you might have one of the hexagonal cup, that one was quite important to show the "thumb plate" on top of the handle. If you didn't manage to get one I will stick the old one back in for now. I wish I could give you the money to go back again and take some more!

File:Octagonal footed gold cup from the Belitung shipwreck, ArtScience Museum, Singapore - 20110319.jpg
Very overexposed photograph of the octagonal gold cup from the Belitung shipwreck – better shots most welcome
I did take one of the hexagonal cup, but all I had was my iPhone with me so it came out terribly overexposed. I didn't realize this until I had uploaded the photograph. Guess we'll have to wait for someone else to take a better one. Actually, I don't think it's a good idea to use the old photograph because it is not of a cup from the shipwreck at all, merely one that looks like it. That is rather misleading. — Cheers, JackLee talk 07:24, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but it is only to illustrate the thumb plate, nothing else. It is very hard to describe exactly what one is and the pic is by far better than forty or fifty words :¬)
I have dloaded your pic, yesterday in fact, and have had a quick go at cleaning it up, the wobble might beat me unfortunately as there is no really easy way to eliminate the ghosts around the rim. The overexposure is very easy to cure though. It may be good enough to use for the thumb plate... Chaosdruid (talk) 07:30, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Great. Well, if you want to use the original photograph temporarily you should make it clear in the caption that it is not the actual cup but a similar one in a museum elsewhere. I was very puzzled when I saw the original photographs in the article because I realized that they were not actually from the shipwreck but were found in the Middle East and elsewhere, and this had not been noted in the article. — Cheers, JackLee talk 07:34, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Temasek Polytechnic logo.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Temasek Polytechnic logo.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

InfoBox

Hello, Jack Lee. I am the creator of the Helena Wong's wikipage. I am very new to wiki, currently working on my second article. When I created the page, I used Matthais Steiner's page as a reference. I know that there are various types of infobox (e.g. specifically for swimmers, table tennis players). However, there is not any for weightlifters; they are not exactly athletics (although they are athletes). I have browsed through many weightlifters' pages and there are various types of infobox used. I even found one, which uses an infobox for swimmer (see Ben Turner, Australian Weightlifter). May you advise on the preferred infobox? Could a dedicated infobox be used or created for weightlifters? Thanks.Lizkywong (talk) 19:50, 16 May 2011 (UTC). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lizkywong (talkcontribs) 19:26, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

It's possible to create a new infobox, but unless there are a lot of special fields required I would suggest using {{Infobox sportsperson}}. — Cheers, JackLee talk 01:02, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Request for IP block exemption

Request reason:

I am being transiently affected by an IP block (probably because of the way my ISP, SingNet, does things), and I request for exemption. I receive the error message "You have been blocked because it has been detected that you are using the Tor anonymising service, or you or somebody sharing your IP address (220.255.2.119) is running a Tor exit node." — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 15:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Good clean block log, and seasoned editor - I see no reason why you can't have IPBE.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:29, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

I see no active blocks on any of the IPs that you use. Also, you have not used the IP you mentioned in more than a month and see no open Tor nodes on a random check of your IPs. TNXMan 15:15, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Weird. I just copied that message off the screen a few moments ago. — Cheers, JackLee talk 15:18, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
It just happened again: "You have been blocked because it has been detected that you are using the Tor anonymising service, or you or somebody sharing your IP address (220.255.2.101) is running a Tor exit node." — Cheers, JackLee talk 16:54, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
You are correct - "The IP address 220.255.2.101 is blocked as a Tor exit node" comes up if I check the IP address.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:23, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
The latest one: "You have been blocked because it has been detected that you are using the Tor anonymising service, or you or somebody sharing your IP address (220.255.2.137) is running a Tor exit node." — Cheers, JackLee talk 17:27, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

IP block exempt

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:33, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

OK, thanks very much. — Cheers, JackLee talk 17:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Orphan

I agree with the deletion of all the redirects to Pre-election-day events of the Singaporean general election, 2006 but have you considered the possibility of creating incoming links to it from other articles? For example, why on earth does Singaporean general election, 2006 not link to it? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:04, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

I haven't really thought about this at all (or even read the article), really. I came across it when tidying up "Category:Elections in Singapore". — Cheers, JackLee talk 11:11, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
