Ancient Greek upsilon[edit]

Hey, you changed the transliteration of upsilon in Syracuse, Sicily and Thucydides from y (Syrákousai, Thoukydídēs) to u (Surákousai, Thoukudídēs), saying that Ancient Greek wasn't iotacistic. But upsilon was probably already pronounced [ʉ] or [y] in Ancient Greek, certainly in the later part of the Ancient Greek period. (y doesn't represent full iotacism, meaning pronunciation as [i].) WP:IPA for Greek gives [y] as the pronunciation of Ancient Greek upsilon. So I'm going to change the transliterations back from u to y. — Eru·tuon 23:32, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
