You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 01:47, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Mario Martinez.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I've nommed this for featured list status; I put you up as a co-nom since you did the grunt work of actually getting the list up and the images in. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 15:53, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Pop Williams and the Cubs/Orphans

Do you have a citation for the ending date of the Orphans name? The Chicago Cubs page has no such citation, while the MLB site and Baseball-Reference show it as the Orphans, as does the season article on this wiki. Retrosheet does show the team as the Cubs, though. -Dewelar (talk) 02:38, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Technically, removing information without explanation is improper, but I understand your point that the term could be considered confrontational. It was not meant to be.
Regarding the team name, a red flag for that is that the footnote in the Cubs article that allegedly cites the date of name leads to the bb-ref page for the 1903 Cubs. Based on that, the Cubs article itself is in error. -Dewelar (talk) 02:50, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Just as you believe something so small as a single word in an edit summary can damage an editor's reputation, so I believe something so small as a category (along with the change to the infobox) can mean an article is in need of correction. I spend a fair amount of time ensuring that references to team names (among many other things) are kept consistent among the many baseball articles. Since you've explained that you're OK with it, I will restore the Orphans name to its places in the article.
In the meantime, I'd like to know what in my version of the article violated the MoS (other than my misreading of "MA" for "ME" in the birthplace, which I chalk up to poor vision). I am always interested in improving my editing skills. -Dewelar (talk) 03:15, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Just to let you know, I have also changed the Cubs article to reflect the 1902/1903 information at the cited source. I'll be interested to see what sort of discussion that generates, if any. -Dewelar (talk) 03:35, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Also, I didn't know we were allowed to assess our own articles. That's interesting to know as well. -Dewelar (talk) 03:37, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
