Slit-Scan photography

  • Article: fr:Slit-scan
  • Corresponding English-language article: Slit-Scan photography
  • Worth doing because: French article is more extensive information worth incorporating into the English stub

Great picture

Fantastic new picture on Francis Petre wish the page had had it when it was on the main page. Thanks a lot Giano | talk 07:04, 10 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Hi again, I have just seen your location, I wrote Benjamin Mountfort some time ago, I don't suppose................Giano | talk 10:03, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
  • Hi Giano, thanks for that. I'll be sure to go for some Mountfort-related photos soon :). Gobeirne 00:02, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Music Perth

After your edits, any suggestions where the edited bits can go? vcxlor 03:01, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Hi Vcxlor. I removed some of those bits because they seemed a tad depressing, frankly, and I thought them a bit too specific for a city-level article. All music scenes change, and perhaps a "History of the Perth music scene"-type article may be an appropriate place for a discussion of that sort of thing. What do you think? - Gobeirne 03:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
    • Hey that sounds good - it is very despressing, both lack of recognition, most of them moving on (either Frank Zappa's 'end up working in a gas station' or in graves like Bon Scott) - but there are some brilliant bits.. the problem - what category/stub area do you think? Maybe it could fit into the Perth category somehow. vcxlor 03:17, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
      • I've just created a "Culture" section on the Perth WikiProject, which seems as good a place as any to get started! :) - Gobeirne 03:33, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
        • Thanks, that's good thats resolved the category, now off to get a sense of how many arts, phew! vcxlor 03:43, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
        • Ok I've started a possible heirarchy in the talk, I hope someone might be interested. It feels like a lot of work! vcxlor
          • A huge amount of work, methinks, but a worthy cause! :) - Gobeirne 23:51, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Northbridge

Yeah the wiki bits are important. The cultural centre is a historical entry as well, not too sure whether to try for extra historical entries within the Perth category so as to not clog articles with stuffvcxlor 03:23, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Systemic bias

Hi Gobeirne,

My understanding of systemic bias is that it transcends any one contributor or edit. Individual contributors and individual edits may be completely unbiased, yet a bias is introduced by the spread of contributors. Personally, I make no attempt to counter systemic bias in my own work; I contribute according to my interests and knowledge, systemic bias be damned.

My comment re: systemic bias was intended to refer to the general state of coverage of music in Perth, which lists modern bands like Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy, End of Fashion and Sleepy Jackson, but of older bands it mentions only ACDC and INXS, making no mention of other important bands such as The Triffids, The Hoodoo Gurus, Dave Hole, Allegiance, Eurogliders, Jebediah, The Dugites, The Manikins, The Stems, The Kryptonics, and The Scientists. My comment was not meant to refer specifically to your edit, which I confess I hadn't even looked at.

I appreciate your friendly response to what might have sounded like a judgemental comment. Keep up the good work. Snottygobble | Talk 00:52, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

  • I'm only just starting to catch up with this debate now. I just read your comment that historic bands are a bit off topic for a city article, and saw what steps you've taken to tackle it. Good stuff. Snottygobble | Talk 00:55, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
  • 'Hi Guys! This is Eddie your ship-board computer' Vcxlor here,

I've tried independently of this interaction do my bit in Perth Cultural History Talk - and hope you both might agree.vcxlor 02:43, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Now for something completely different. I am quite impressed by this article, as I have had microsurgery on one of my ears, and it is interesting to read in light of that. the olive oil point is one which my latest ent surgeon believes is the only safe remedy! vcxlor 13:37, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

User page edit

For being well humoured and understanding!

Hi, I didn't mind the edit but I thought that it wasn't common place to edit people's User pages. I've seen many (mostly angry) comments about not doing it. I guess I was just surprised to see anyone editing a page about me! I'm relatively new here and have done my best to be as cautious as possible, and not step on too many people's toes. I've seen evidence of others being very stressed and annoyed by people here, and I don't want to be any cause of such annoyance myself. This is why I keep to my own articles mostly, and would certainly not consider even touching a member's user page. If it is the norm... well I'm still learning and will certainly bear it in mind in the future. I was considering removing the link anyway, and your edit reminded me, which is why I did so - not because I was annoyed (which I'm not) about the edit being made. I'm here to help out as best as I can, and hopefully meet some nice people too. If my edit seemed hostile/reactionary, then I certainly apologise. Like my User page says - I can be a bit of a silly moo sometimes. HowardBerry 00:41, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi again! I just wanted to say thank you for the reply and for putting up with my being daft! Because of this, I'd love to award you the Barnstar of Good Humour. HowardBerry 03:16, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

ACOTF: Rabbit-proof fence

Hi, I noticed that you've listed yourself as a participant at Wikipedia:WikiProject Perth. As you may or may not know, the current Wikipedia:Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight is rabbit-proof fence. It would be great if we could put a picture of the actual fence up. Just wondering if you are in a position to take such a picture at all?

(Don't feel obliged to reply to this, but if you like you can leave me a note on my Talk page.) cheers -- pfctdayelise 13:37, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Galway photos

Hello Greg, were you the person responsible for all the new photos at Galway? If so, fair play to you, the additions were badly needed. Fergananim 21:02, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Dramatic Phrase: The Firstname Surname Story on AfD

Hey, I've listed a page you created, Dramatic Phrase: The Firstname Surname Story on AfD. So, just letting you know as a courtesy, in case you hadn't noticed. It was fun to read, it gave me a laugh, but I don't really think it's right for Wikipedia. Anyway, feel free to disagree with me at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dramatic Phrase: The Firstname Surname Story. Maccoinnich 02:27, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

  • That's fine. To be honest, if you didn't do it, I think I probably would have sooner or later ;) - Gobeirne 03:39, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
    • Okay, good to hear it's all okay. Maccoinnich 14:52, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Photos added to manhole

Hey - great collection of photos you put in the gallery at manhole. I was wondering, however, if they wouldn't be better placed at manhole cover? - SCEhardt.

  • D'oh! Duly moved. Thanks :) - Gobeirne 01:09, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
