Fashion Piracy and Intellectual Property Law[edit]

Fashion piracy is very profitable for designers who make knockoff copies because they meet the needs of consumers who cannot afford original designer prices.Fashion designers have a way of interacting with people through their creative and dazzling designs in clothing. Shoppers enjoy dressing with the trendiest outfits by being be up to date with fashion because every season brings new styles. However, these new and creative designs come at a very expensive price, driving many shoppers away from the original and seeking similar styles at more affordable prices. Shoppers purchase the knockoff copies because financially its a smart choice. While shoppers and some designers may benefit from piracy and knockoff copies, this has catastrophic affects economically and on the reputation of the original designer.

U.S Intellectual Property Law[edit]

The typical explanation for the Intellectual Property Law is, creating new books, films, songs, films etc. is expensive, but once the cool new thing is produced, copying is cheap (or in the case of copying done over the internet, free). Intellectual property law makes it illegal for one person to copy another person's creative ideas. It says that the law prohibits not only exact copies, but also any work that is "substantially similar" to a preexisting copyrighted work.
