Hyphens, dashes and rifles...

Hi, Faceless Enemy. I used hyphens (minus) in a disambiguation page I had created (Lee rifle, when mentioning the models Lee–Metford and Lee–Enfield) but I noticed that you replaced my hyphens (Lee-Metford, Lee-Enfield) by en dashes (Lee–Metford, Lee–Enfield)... I just wanted to know why is that... and if you can bring some official source for that spelling. Regards! Kintaro (talk) 08:03, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Per MOS:NDASH, "An en dash is used for the names of two or more people in an attributive compound." For example, Comet Hale–Bopp. Faceless Enemy (talk) 16:16, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

The infobox on this article was broken so I fixed it. I also found the number on the parameter (Overall length) I fixed was not the same as on the reference cited. I figure Lapua must know what they are selling so I changed it. However I wish there was a reliable secondary source for this infobox, since the Lapua table cited is a primary source.I couldn't find a listing on the SAAMI site nor the CIP site. Why did you revert my edit to 6.5mm Grendel ?

If you look again at my deletion of that reference you will see 1) it links to a non-existent web page, i.e.a 404 file not found error 2) if the link were working it would link to a primary source. Even if the link were working this article has enough secondary and tertiary sources to make links to primary sources a waste of the reader's time. Trilobitealive (talk) 22:03, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

@Trilobitealive: 1) The web page is still available via the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine here. 2) The primary source supports the contention that it was released in 2003. That statement certainly needs a source, and a primary source is reliable for that particular fact. Wikipedia does not prohibit the use of primary sources. While they cannot be used to establish notability, or to support original research/synthesis, they are perfectly adequate for stuff like this. I'd prefer to have both a primary and a secondary source, but I don't think the article is served by taking the primary source out. Faceless Enemy (talk) 23:56, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable on both counts. I'll change it to the archive link when I get back there. The first deer I saw pass due to Grendel induced heart failure was in '05. See WP:OR Trilobitealive (talk) 00:35, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Gday again. All you need to do to "officially" join is to add you name to this list - Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Members. No need to add a user box unless you would like to (pls see here for a selection though if you are interested in doing this - Wikipedia:WikiProject_Military_history/Members/Banners). All the best. Re: request to relist 9x19mm Parabellum RM

The discussion was previously relisted, thus open for at least two weeks before it was closed, thus not a premature close by any means. Let it lay for 6 months or more then consider another RM at that point. I did note that the discussion was not advertised at Wikipedia:WikiProject Firearms. Don't attempt to contact interested editors directly but rather post a notice of the new RM on the Firearm's project talk page. That is the best method of garnering more participation. Thanks --Mike Cline (talk) 19:19, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Mike Cline, why let it lie? Again, only two editors expressed an opinion on the topic. That's not a consensus either way, just a lack of discussion at a page with very little going on on the talk page (note that the next most recent discussion there was from August of 2014). I'd rather continue the existing discussion than start a new discussion right below the old one. Faceless Enemy (talk) 19:52, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
I will call your attention to: Wikipedia:The world will not end tomorrow. The failure of an RM to garner the support the requester needs to gain consensus for the move is not the fault of the process. Either very few editors care and/or appropriate WikiProjects were unaware of the RM and/or even if aware, the RM did not raise any level of real interest. Under those conditions WP:TITLECHANGES takes precedence. If you believe the RM was improperly closed, then you have recourse via: WP:Move review --Mike Cline (talk) 20:22, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Minor caliber

Honestly, I've never seen spacing in ref diameters or names, & I default to no spaces. I know WP tends to differ, but I confess, IDK if there's an MOS rule on it. (If there's one favoring spacing, IMO it needs changing.) TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 20:59, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

@Trekphiler: The MOS rule is to put a non-breaking space in between the numeral and the unit (e.g. "9 mm"). If followed to the letter, the MOS would require that we call 9×19mm Luger "9 mm × 19 mm Luger " which is obviously ridiculous. As I understand it, cartridge names are unspaced in accordance with standard industry usage (probably driven by space concerns on pistol barrels), whereas bullet and bore diameters are spaced in accordance with the MOS. Faceless Enemy (talk) 23:48, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
@Trekphiler: thoughts? Faceless Enemy (talk) 11:37, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
As said, I've never seen spaces, names or no. That inclues artillery, & I've been rv'd for it there. If you're going to rv this time, I won't fight it. I will think it's stupid. ;p TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 19:07, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hmaag / Andy Dingley / Article Revolver

Hello Faceless Enemy, I have a problem with corrections in the Revolver Article. I got the following message:

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Revolver shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:42, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

What to do? Retire my foto (Percussion LeMat Revolver) (and the correction > industrial production) in the article?? Yours, -- hmaag (talk) 08:39, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Hmaag, I would hold off on making any further changes to that sentence for now. Open a discussion on the article talk page about the issue. You may be correct, but edit warring is still not acceptable here; it's a waste of time for all involved and eventually devolves into a contest of "who was online last?" There is probably a different way to phrase things that addresses both your and Andy Dingley's concerns. Faceless Enemy (talk) 17:17, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I made some changes in the Thompson submachine gun article. Yours, -- hmaag (talk) 12:30, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

Simon and Schuster

Hello, Faceless Enemy. I've been thinking about our edits to the Contact article and believe you have it wrong here. The book was published by Simon and Schuster. As a matter of fact it says on the copyright page of the book: "Published by Simon and Schuster / A Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc." For you to say "(the Library of) Congress is wrong" is silly. In my 25 years of dealing with these issues I have never known the Library of Congress to make an error. How could they? All the information you see there is simply that which is provided by the publishers. I trust you will make this right. GroveGuy (talk) 21:44, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

GroveGuy, very good point. I didn't know that there was a division of Simon & Schuster called Simon and Schuster. I'll open a discussion on the issue at the S&S talk page. For now, I've self-reverted. Thanks again. Faceless Enemy (talk) 01:33, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Medical referencing

Hello and thank you for your contribution and help in improving the medical content on Wikipedia. Wikipedia needs more editors who want to improve content and so your efforts are welcome and appreciated. Some of your recent edits may have been reverted because of issues with the referencing of the information. As in all of Wikipedia, secondary sources are best and this is especially important for content about health. The community has developed guidelines and you can see them here: high-quality reliable sources. Editors working on health content typically use review articles, textbooks and content from national or international organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). More help can be found at WP:MEDHOW. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. Also, if you are interested in editing specific medical or health articles and need help finding references, please leave a note on my talk page as I would be happy to help you with this. CCI

CCI (ammunition) needs some work. I think a few extra sets of eyes and fingers would be very helpful. Since you edited there before and seem to have an interest in guns, I thought maybe you would take a look. Thanks. Averyevilcentipede (talk) 10:49, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Averyevilcentipede, I may have time to look at it this week. What are you looking to improve about the page? Faceless Enemy (talk) 11:30, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
The flow is bad, it needs more references, and the existing references all need to be checked against the copy. I can check the existing cites but I am having a tough time with make the article well written and I am very short on sources. Averyevilcentipede (talk) 11:34, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help this dispute come to a resolution. Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! Just testing Wikipedia out. Temporary name based on interest in WASR 10 which you edited. Are you still interested as I have some much better pictures of various configuration but need help getting them there. Test account (talk) 14:39, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "SIG MCX". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 3 August 2016.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Speedy deletion nomination of 8×56mm Mannlicher–Schönauer

Hello Faceless Enemy,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 8×56mm Mannlicher–Schönauer for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Xx236 (talk) 09:09, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
