    • EntityShape.js is a script that allows you to check an Item against an EntitySchema. On the Item page, it will display various information about the Item, like the properties that should be present on the Item.
  • Development
    • Query Builder: We're making it possible to switch between querying for specific values (e.g. all Items with a specific post code) or any value (all Items with a post code statement regardless of which one it is)
    • Correcting the behaviour of what automatically happens on Wikidata when a page is moved on Wikipedia and co to an excluded namespace with the "suppress redirect" option (phab:T261275)
    • Making language fallback indicators not show up for language variant fallbacks in a few more places (phab:T267502)

Week 10/ Add Citations to 2 Articles or insert an image/ Shangying

In this week, I chose two articles to add citation, both of this two articles is about cat. The first one is Ragdoll, the second one is British shorthair, those two type cats is very famous. From this week's practice, I learned to it is important that read more articles when you trying to finding the citation, because high quality link will help people to know the article better. week 11/ Reflective essay / Shangying

I am very honored that professor give me the chance to know more functions and information about Wikipedia, even it is for extra credit, but this is a valuable experience to me, it helped a lot to me to understand the article in Wikipedia, this experience prompt me to read more articles, not only about academic, but also something that I am interested in. Before this class, I never know that normal people can edit or corrected the word, citation, sentence on Wikipedia, I thought people who want to edit it, they have to have some right of Wikipedia, or people who are work in Wikipedia. I was surprised that students could also correct some problems. Then, when I know how to correct mistakes in the article for the first time, I felt that I had made a contribution to the article and the readers. Later, every time citation was added to the article in Practice, I would read many reliable articles and select appropriate literatures to add to the article, so as to let more readers know about this article or this topic. In additional, I found that I was willing to do it, and I will continue editing on Wikipedia, I think it not only expanded my reading volume, but also improved my ability to write articles in the future. Week 11 / Reflective essay / LBJJames

In this Wikipedia extra credit assignment, i made a lot mistakes initially and fix the mistakes after instructor's mention. However, the whole experience make me feel good. I learned that i could edit the content and resources in the wikipedia which I didn't know it before. And i learned how can i add source to it, sandbox, assigned articles and so on. Through the Wikipedia extra credit assignment, I learned a lot knowledges because i have to fix the content and add citation to the incomplete articles. I mean this is a really great thing which could increase my knowledge. I love this assignment because this is extra credit assignment. Week 11 / Reflective essay/ ShawnBoom

I am very grateful to the professor for giving me this opportunity to learn about Wiki functions. Because I have never been in contact before because this class is for teaching you, thank you very much. When I first inserted citation into the article, I still remember because the citation requirements were not understood correctly, the high-quality, highly relevant source was not used, and the WIKI administrator requested to change it several times. Thank you very much. The strict requirements that time gave me a deeper understanding of how to add a high-quality citation and also helped my original class because more than half of the articles I chose were related to my project proposal—related, including those cited in the articles. I learned how to read critically, thinking about how to join citations, and how to find reliable information from a neutral and objective perspective. In short, this experience made me very happy and encouraged. One interesting thing happened when I editing Cainiao is that the reference I used is blacklisted by wiki, but it is a journal and has DOI and everything. So I changed to another one. Week 11/ Reflective essay/ Lipute17

It is definitely a great honor to do what we have performed on Wikipedia. I personally have always viewed Wikipedia as my priority choice when I want to look-up something really quick. Wikipedia can always give us the most accurate one-line explanation on the subject and is definitely the easiest way to achieve information. But I have never thought about being one of the editor for Wikipedia since I don't believe I am that sophisticate enough to be an editor. The experience for doing our extra credit is very exciting. I find the experience very satisfying and a lot easier than I thought. I don't really need to be a professor to perform that, I can just share my understanding on the subject with the community, even it is just a simple sentence. When thousands editor like me all leave our comments on a single subject, it can turn out to be a very clear and scientific article. What's more, the extra credit journey also help me to achieve new knowledge. In order to finish the extra credit, I gained a lot of new knowledge on various subject. From politician from India, to poetry from 10th century; From artist from Japan to a new NBA player from Montenegro. I think the process have also make me more knowledgable than before which I think being an editor on Wikipedia is not only a good way to benefit the whole community but also a great way to benefit myself. I'll definitely continue to being an editor on Wikipedia in the future. I believe it is a great opportunity for me to continue enhance myself and to keep benefit others. Week 11 / Reflective essay/ Martinmadison

Overall I found that Wikipedia extra credit work is very innovative and inspiring for me. For a long time, I thought that I wouldn't have any chance or the qualification to edit any article here. Instead, everyone may know something that's not publicly accessible. And such circumstance is much more frequent than expected. Thus, knowledge sharing is crucial to building a more knowledgeable and intelligent community.

The way I approach an article is to see if the article has a clear and well-developed structure. An article about the Empire state building may have a lot more sections than the one of a European small town. Then I would see if there is any section that should have been added to the article and yet it's missing. I would start there and add details based on the cited source. Summarizing the contribution is also crucial that it actually tests out if I fully understand the material I'm about to add. The best way to learn is to teach others about the learning material. Wiki project is one great example of it. Last, improving the contribution based on the feedback is another crucial factor that helps to make a high-quality contribution. Cited sources must be authoritative and yet cannot have any biased standing regarding the statement or opinion of an event. This could be the most challenging part of the project.

Wiki project is like a mini-research project. It doesn't require any formal procedures from a traditional research project, but the fundamental principle behind it is highly similar. I think it really helps to build a mindset of scientific research and serves as a source of inspiration. I may continue to do the contribution in Wikipedia if I see any absence of knowledge that should have been in an article. The impact of this editing work has a much more tremendous impact than expected. I wish that my limited effort would bring more benefit to the community. Week11/ Reflective Essay/ Mavin2516

It was a great experience taking the Wikipedia Research and Methodology course as it provided a unique learning platform. I learnt about how to evaluate and assess the quality of an article based on a several evaluation criteria. Identifying articles with information gaps was also a major milestone that I achieved during the course. At the introductory phase I have to admit it was a little challenging navigating the site while taking the assignments but generally it was a great experience fumbling through the process and eventually arriving at the right destination. For example, I found it challenging adding citation to the articles but finally I managed to pull off the task. Some of my edits were reverted, this was so disappointing but it taught me to ensure that the references I was inserting were reliable before using them. Week11 / Reflective Essay / ASCXX

It is a fun editing experience of this Wiki project, and it is a totally different experience of editing a Wikipedia compared to using it. I can never imagine myself editing a Wikipedia article before this exercise, but I feel much more confident now when editing an article. I have also learned the importance of using an academic source. I always come to Wikipedia if I search for something new, even though all of my professors said not to use Wikipedia for any academic purpose. I did not understand why I cannot use it since Wikipedia helped me a lot to comprehend new terms. Now, I realized the reason not to use it for academic purposes is a lot of Wikipedia articles are in a disorganized manner. However, I think I will keep editing Wikipedia articles even after this class. First and foremost, it is so valuable to make a contribution to Wikipedia. We have 125 edited articles by only 15 student editors, but we have reached 4.91 million views so far! Second, I personally have learned a lot throughout this process. Every editing I made has an academic journal to support, and I learned how to find the information I needed by only looking at abstract and discussion. Third, if everybody keeps editing Wikipedia and uses reliable academic sources, maybe one day students will be able to use Wikipedia for academic purposes. This would be so meaningful for me since I was not allowed to use any article from Wikipedia. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this extra credit exercise, and I think this exercise can also help us to get familiar with the research process. I learned a lot during the process of doing extra credit assignments. I learned how to evaluate an essay. A good essay needs a clear structure, balanced content, a neutral tone, and reliable resources. The process of evaluating an article has improved my writing skills. In fact, it was a little difficult for me to add citations to an article at first because I had to identify parts of the article that needed additional explanation or were not covered in the original text, and added content based on the literature. But as I got better at it, I was able to complete the assignment more quickly.

In addition, at first, I thought that Wikipedia articles were written by professionals, but in fact, ordinary people like me can also participate in writing articles with some initial training. The articles in Wikipedia are the result of a collaborative effort. I will continue to edit the articles that interest me and share my knowledge with everyone. Week 11/Reflective essay/八路军被服厂李厂长

At the beginning of this assignment, I actually have no idea about what I am doing, and result of causing series low-quality editing for the first few assignments. But in the middle of the entire project timeline, I learned that instead of fixing few grammarly issue in the content, adding more words and high-quality reference would provide better insights for the topics, so I started to find articles that were related to my research proposal, and with so many high-quality, and peer-viewed sources. I had added plenty of knowledge to support wiki articles' knowledge. The experience for having this activities is great, I found now I am an adult, I have to be responsible for every word i typed and speak. I can't just copy paste other ones' and make it my own. This is what I learned overall from this activity. I would prefer to continue the work of providing some editiations on wiki, since I love the way to contribute and fix others' work. Probably I will not act like did this activity in the class, like contribute two articles per week, because of too much work loads i have at this moment. However, if i got a chance, I would continue to do such work since I like the feeling of editing, especially on wiki. I am been U.S for almost nine years, I was heavily rely on wiki, and I thought it was so powerful, even though that I never understand why all my teachers were saying "don't copy from wiki", but I learned from this project. I learned about Wikipedia when I was in high school. Back then I didn't know the fact that it were the editors who work very hard behind every article to consistently improve the qualuty of each article in Wikipedia, and collaborate via the rules to reinforce a serious place to share knowledge in a right way. I thought this learning process by doing the extra credit assignment on Wikipedia is meaningful because I realized that one small step could make a Wikipedia article a little bit better. If more people can edit, the entire environment will get increasingly mature and professional. For example, I learned how to start edit, insert references, and look for high-quality sources to contribute to the articles. It is important because Wikipedia provides a fertile soil for all knowledge. I will continue editing on Wikipedia because based on my past experience, my questions about knowledge or anything else can largely be solved on Wikipedia, so why not become part of it and let more readers solve their problems without worrying too much about the quality of the article? Week 4/ Add Citations/ Haomimimi

But the definition do not describe what a cheongsam looks like, which I think is very important. Thus I add some descriptions about its outlook. 2. There are actually many different ways to define things, but the most intuitive one is to describe it visually, especially for concrete things. 1. Here is the article that I choose to edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangzhuang#Name This is a Chinese clothing style. However, this wiki does not have clear description about the origin of “Tangzhuang”, which I think is very important. Because this is also a long story why foreigners call this clothing style “Tangzhuang”, I find an article which has some descriptions about this and add citations. 2. 1. Here is an article that I choose to edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanfu# I add the meaning of Hanfu. I think it is very important to know the meaning of a clothing style, and it should be put in the first introduction of Hanfu. 2. I find it’s interesting that when I open the Hanfu in Wiki, it shows that “This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page”. Week 7/ Contribute to one more article/ Haomimimi

1. Here is an article that I choose to edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guzheng# I add the characteristics of Guzheng’s tone. Since when we want to know about an instrument, the first thing we want to know is its tone characteristics, which is the most important for an instrument. So I am really shocked that it does not talk about anything related to the sound in the introduction. 2. There are really a lot of sentences in the introduction of Guzheng, and I definitely learn a lot form it. However, I also find that it is very important to think about what is the most important thing when we talk about something. Week 11 / Reflective essay/ CaptainJoseph

In this Wikipedia extra credit assignment, I learned how great it is for those who selflessly provide knowledge to share what they have seen with everyone.

During this semester, I am first trained to become a novice wikipidian and learned all the basic requirements for share qualified knowledge on Wikipedia. Then I started to use my newly acquired abilities to help wiki authors correct minor errors such as typos. After I was familiar with this process, I started to add some information that I knew, but not posted in the wiki article from the knowledge I knew. At this stage, I began to experience the joy of helping people, and watching the articles I wrote was viewed by more and more people made me even more excited. Gradually, I need to add two citations to wiki articles in a week. At this time, I gradually discovered that my existing knowledge maybe is not sufficient, so I use nyu libery to absorb more Knowledge helps me to do this job better. Secondly, during the process of completing the assignment, I have communicated with more wikipidians on the Internet, published comments on modifying the article, and modified the information provided by myself according to their feedback, which improved my communication skills and improved the team. The ability to collaborate, I believe this is also excellent for my future career development.

Wikipedia is a very popular online encyclopedia and its articles contain a lot of information, but it is important to be mindful that anybody can write or edit a Wikipedia article, so there is no guarantee that what is written is correct. In the meantime, all Wikipedia contributors are anonymous, so cannot check the authenticity of the article on the basis of the author's history. Therefore, Wikipedia articles should not be referenced in college research papers, and details from Wikipedia articles should only be checked from a second, credible source. Wikipedia knowledge can be very helpful, however if used thoughtfully and properly. From week 6, I have learned how to find articles. Finding an article to work on about picking a topic that needs improvement and using categories to find a topic. The difference vision page show clearly with the previous version. I have been received an alert from the Wikipedia editor, the editor recommends that pick different articles to work on one that has scope for improvement. Then I switch to another one for improvement. Wikipedia articles are especially useful to provide some basic background information on the subject in order to obtain some easy, introductory, and not crucial information for the research study. Get links to more verifiable and authoritative information, links to Wikipedia articles can contribute to higher quality, accurate data. Find knowledge about individuals, journals, and organizations that can help you interpret information from other sources. Wikipedia Extra credit assignment to the Study Systems and Procedures section is for me to understand through analytical reading and review of the literature and to share it in an open and transparent manner with those involved in the same field of interest. Week11 / Reflective Essay / Bbbzhu

It has come to the end of a long journey of editing on Wikipedia since the start of the semester. I have learned a lot about Wikipedia's editing platform and I'm amazed at how systematic and how much preparation there is to edit a Wikipedia page: from sourcing an article, to get the proper citation, to using proper language, to communicate with other editors. My view of this useful site has changed while being an editor on this site. The different view comes mainly from the perspective of an editor and no longer as a viewer. As an editor, I have the responsibility to bring viewers the most accurate and up to date information possible. Wikipedia acting as an information-sharing platform needs responsible contributors, who are able to contribute objective and research-backed information. Being able to contribute to a huge source of information makes me feel proud. Being able to collaborate with other people to improve the information found on this platform makes me feel supported by others. In the future, if I could gain expertise on a particular subject that does not already have a furnished Wikipedia page, I would definitely be happy to contribute to it. The reason that I chose this article is that Nanjing is my hometown and I want to do some contribution to the universities in Nanjing, I added more details about the specific location of Nanjing University of Technology and the performance of the university’s influential status in China. Week 11 / Reflective essay / JS11323

When the professor introduced this assignment at the beginning of the semester, I actually didn’t know how I needed to do it, how I should do it, and how should I get this extra credit. When I started to do the first three assignments, I found it was too difficult to find an article to edit. After all, English is not my native language, and editing other people’s articles feels like display one's slight skill before an expert. In the next few weeks, I was worried about how to find an article to edit. So, I decided to ask the professor, and the professor helped me a lot on finding an article. The professor told me that I can select some key words in the paper I have written, and then follow this to find an article to edit, it was very helpful. When inserting a citation to an article, even though my edit or insert was reverted a few times, it gave me a lot of inspiration, so I gradually learned how to find a reliable citation. A good citation should not come from a website or a resource with low credibility, it should be reliable.
