Trying to help[edit]

We have a lot of policies and guidelines. It can be tough getting your head round them. As well as WP:EL which you've already been pointed to, WP:COI may prove relevant at some point. --Dweller (talk) 16:10, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS Oh, and by the way, you are:

This is all very exhausting...[edit]

I really don't want to come across as being a pain in the bum, unfortunately I have symptoms of mild ADD/OCD and depression unfortunately and because of this I don't work. This means that I spend all my time on my website working with my staff members, the 360 Splurge is my baby and its great that I have big name Publishers (505Games, Codemasters, Eidos, Midway, THQ, Vivendi Games) helping me out (as in they send me games to review etc). Because I don't work I cannot afford to buy my own domain hence the URL is 360splurge.gooforum.com, its not actually a forum even though the URL suggests it (but there is a small forum on there). Its all hard to explain in one message.

I've tried reading those pages you linked me too multiple times but for someone like me its hard to take in.

I hate to ask but what CAN I do? I don't want to be like 'Oh this is my site join it, love me' etc etc as that would be silly.

Can I make a 360 Splurge page detailing what it is, where it started, etc but without suggesting that people visit it (if that makes sense?) in exactly the same way as other game sites have?

A very confused Clare.— Preceding unsigned comment added by EffEmmGee (talkcontribs)

Hi. Don't worry, we were all newbies once! WP:COI shows it to be a bad move for you to create an article about your own website and the reasons are pretty clearly explained. If anyone wanted to create such an article, it would need to pass WP:WEB (sorry! another one!) to remain in the encyclopedia. I think it's unlikely to do so, from what you're saying. What all this really boils down to is this. Wikipedia doesn't exist to promote companies. However, notable companies that you'd expect to find in a massive encyclopedia (think Coca Cola) should be present and those that you wouldn't (think Joe's fish shop) shouldn't. In between those extremities are the mass of articles about companies and websites, including yours. Policies like WP:WEB exist to help us administrators decide which side of the line they fall on. And the same applies to external links, I'm afraid. --Dweller (talk) 16:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spoilers.[edit]

It was agreed upon to do away with the old "spoiler warning" template, as it is fairly obvious that a section titled "Story" or "Plot" will discuss details which may spoil the ending of a game, book, film, etc. · AndonicO Engage. 00:47, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Well, that complicates matters, because featured articles on video games are supposed to go into detail about the plot (I actually helped bring the BioShock article to featured status); perhaps you should warn your readers to skip sections titled "Plot", "Story", and "Synopsis"? If you'd like to see how the decision of removing the spoiler warnings from articles was reached, you may read a few of the arguments here, here, and here.
For the record, I've not finished Portal myself (bought it earlier today, actually), but already knew of GlaDos' intentions, due to my reviewing the Orange Box article (also aiming for FA). · AndonicO Engage. 20:04, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
