Hi, I've reverted your changes at Wicca, in which you changed "pentagram" to "pentacle". A number of people have made similar changes in the last eight months or so, and each seem to be under the impression that a "pentagram" is something sinister and evil, whereas a "pentacle" is positive and good. Historically this perception is unfounded, and in fact the word "pentacle" has not been widely used for this figure until the twentieth century. Even then, in occult circles the word "pentacle" had (and continues to have) a rather different meaning. It is only in the last 20 years or so that the use of this word to refer to a symbol has been popularised by some of the less informed authors in the neopagan publishing industry. See the Pentacle article for more information.

What I don't understand, though, is why some people now hold the theory that a pentagram is only a pentagram if it has one point down, and that pentagrams are "evil", while with one point up it is a "pentacle" and good. Several people have tried to alter the article to make this point, and each time I've asked them where they get that theory from, but received no reply. I'm genuinely mystified, and if you have any pointers for me, I'd love to know! Thanks, Fuzzypeg 21:34, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
