Calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate[edit]

Hi. I undid your edits to Calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate, mostly because using the trade name on pharmaceutical articles is seen as promotional and thus inappropriate for an encyclopedia. (Mentioning the primary trade name once, in the first sentence, is okay; but that's about it.) Please use the international nonproprietary name instead. Also, please have a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, which might apply to you, although of course I can't be sure of that. Thanks, ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 17:35, 2 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

calcipitriol page[edit]

Hello,

I am sorry about using the trade name, but I am not sure why you removed my edits. I am a PhD, Cell Molecular Biology from UPENN, with psoriasis using Enstilar. I went to the page and based on what I have read about my treatment the page is very confusing. I was trying to clarify the information for other users. I would appreciate the opportunity to make some edits, as this is supposed to be a openly editable site. I have no conflict of interest, just an educated patient wanting to clarify the content, which to me doesn't make sense.

Yes, this is an open site and you are very welcome to edit. There's just a steep learning curve about our scientific standards. I'm sure we can improve the article if you're patient. Can you tell me what you found confusing? I must admit I found your version confusing in some parts. For example, the sentence "In clinical trials of earlier formulations (creams and ointments), long-term adverse effects are expected to be..." doesn't seem to make any sense. I thought these trials were already done?
My main problem was that the text read like certain adverse effects only applied to Enstilar. Seeing that there is only a difference in formulation (which is important in some respects but unlikely to have completely different side effects), and that there are no head-to-head studies that I know of, I think the safest thing is to assume the side effects apply to all forms of calcipotriol/betamethasone.
Ideally, we would compare the side effects of the different formulations and mention any significant differences in the article, but that's quite a lot of work.
Hope that helps for a start. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 16:01, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Next steps[edit]

Thank you. I will work on this a section at a time and would it be best to post it on my talk page for you to look at first, then add it if we are in agreement?

That's a good idea. I will be away for about two weeks, so I asked at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Pharmacology#New user needs help with Calcipotriol/betamethasone for somebody to help you. Happy editing! --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 19:34, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I'm back. Feel free to contact me any time. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 08:45, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Back online[edit]

Sorry it has been a while, I had to leave home for several weeks to care for a sick relative. I'm back and would like to start work on the page again.

My first thought is can we change the title to Vitamin D Analog and Betamethasone Topical Therapy?

This would allow me to write about the different vehicles that are used for the therapies (ointment, cream, foam) and also distinguish calcipitriol from calcipitriene as different chemical entities. I can then also write about the different indications, psoriasis vulgaris, eczema and actinic keratinitis.

I will have a section ready by tomorrow, but i wanted to hear your thought on the title first. Thank you.

Hi! I hope your relative is better now.
You can of course write about the different vehicles as long as you've got WP:Reliable sources. A comparison of different application forms would be really fine as this is just the thing that can't be found in the package leaflets. I would leave the title as it is because Vitamin D Analog and Betamethasone Topical Therapy is too unspecific – there are several vitamin D analogs. Also, Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology/Style guide is the guideline for drug articles, and it states that we should use INNs for article titles.
I don't understand what you mean by the difference between calcipotriol from calcipitriene – they seem to be different names for the same thing (see [1]). Best, --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 13:24, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
