Suction[edit]

Re: Your edit to Alien (franchise): Actually, "suction" is the correct term here. Suction is "the act or process of exerting a force upon a solid, liquid, or gaseous body by reason of reduced air pressure over part of its surface". Also: "The principle of physics by which matter is drawn from one space into another because the pressure inside the second space is lower than the pressure in the first." So yes, while we are aware that suction is not necessarily a pulling force (the higher pressure air is actually pushing against the creature, thus forcing it through the hole), "suction" is still the correct scientific term for this process. How the process works is irrelevant; this is simply a matter of proper terminology. See this discussion for a corresponding discussion of the wording in Alien Resurrection. --IllaZilla (talk) 07:19, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't mean to butt in on an esteemed debate there, I just found myself relexively correcting the article as I read it, so thought I might as well attempt an edit. I wouldn't moan about straws or vacuum cleaners 'sucking' stuff, since that seems a bit petty. When it's *science* fiction though, set in outer space, then it maybe it's worth nitpicking. I'll leave you to decide... Dischuffed (talk) 08:05, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 10:58, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
