Reverted "Hacker Ethic"

Hello Darren,

You reverted my edits to the article Hacker Ethic. The sections I deleted were irrelevant to the topic and disrupted the flow of the article. I forgot to put a comment, sorry about that, I'm a new editor so I'm not much experienced with the Wikimedia UI. I will go ahead and delete the sections again and this time put a comment. I hope you don't mind.

(In case you're wondering, the sections I deleted had to do with security hacking a.k.a. cracking, and would be better to be added to the security hacking article rather than the hacker ethic article, which exclusively deals with hacker, rather than cracker, culture.)

jwinnie Sorry I missed your comment; no issues if you explain it in that way when re-doing the edit (though appreciate you may well have already done so given my lateness in reply!). Best, Darren-M talk 15:38, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Applebutter221, You need to discuss this on the article talk page and use WP:EDITREQUEST to propose edits, not solicit individual editors on their talk pages. Best, Darren-M talk 15:36, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

I understand. I will remove it then. Thanks for responding. Applebutter221 (talk) 17:13, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Please explain Peter Hitchens page

What is your rationale for censoring the vaccine section? The talk page clearly shows that the RichardWeiss and the other proxy account (‡ Єl Cid of Valencia) had no argument, but just want to keep the page a puff piece for Peter.

It's a really poor page, and behaviour like yours undermines Wikipedia in a big way Yvonne1951 (talk) 20:57, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Yvonne1951, I have responded on your talk page. Labeling long-tenured editors as 'proxy accounts' is a poor show, though. Darren-M talk 21:15, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Conflict of interest related to Teddy McDonald and possible sockpuppetry

Hi, Darren-M!
It seems like there has been some discussion related to the article Teddy McDonald. The evidence suggests that the user who created the article, ArtWriter1, is Teddy McDonald. The user's original account name, Tm-74, also suggests that ArtWriter1 may be Teddy McDonald. Basically all of ArtWriter1's contributions have been about Teddy McDonald and people related to Teddy McDonald.
Recently, on 21 July 2020, a new account called Willbackhouse was created. This account only made four edits, all of which were about the Teddy McDonald article. There have been rumors that ArtWriter1 is Teddy McDonald and created the page as an advertisement. Wikipedia is not an advertising site; however, the information on the page seems to have been adjusted to be appropriate for Wikipedia's standards by other users.
However, it seems like ArtWriter1 has retired and changed to the new account, Willbackhouse. There is also evidence for this statement about ArtWriter1's retirement: The last edit made by ArtWriter1 was on 3 March 2020. Willbackhouse's first edit was on 21 July 2020. I think a new sockpuppet investigation (SPI) should be opened for this case of ArtWriter1 and Willbackhouse. Even if ArtWriter1 is not Teddy McDonald, the possible sockpuppetry of ArtWriter1 is not acceptable by Wikipedia standards.
There is even more potential sockpuppetry. Willbackhouse has stopped making edits, and a new account called Willbackhouse1 was created on 21 July 2020 (note the same date). Willbackhouse1 has made a total of 6 edits, five of which are about Teddy McDonald. The other one was a warning to Justright89199 on Justright89199's talk page. All edits made by Willbackhouse and Willbackhouse1 have been suppressed, or at least, they are crossed out to me and I cannot see what Willbackhouse and Willbackhouse1 wrote. This may mean that the content was offensive or degrading, according to Wikipedia's policy of suppressors. Please investigate these events. Thank you. Friend505 (talk) 19:49, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Also, thank you for already warning Willbackhouse1 of a potential conflict of interest. MelanieN, who is an admin, has warned Willbackhouse1 of sockpuppetry between the account Willbackhouse1 and the original account, Willbackhouse, although there has not been a significant discussion about the relation between ArtWriter1 and Willbackhouse, nor the relation between Willbackhouse and Willbackhouse1. However, Justright89199 has stated the following: "I can assure you that Willbackhouse is also [Teddy McDonald]." If you would like to see the original stuff that Justright89199 wrote, please visit Justright89199's talk page. Thank you. Friend505 (talk) 19:54, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
@Friend505: Actually, Willbackhouse1 said they created the new account because they forgot the password to the original account. (I saw them say that somewhere, possibly in an edit summary; most of their edits have been suppressed, not because they did anything wrong, but because they were reverting the improper posts by Justright.) The connection between the two Wills is not sockpuppetry, because they have not overlapped and there was no attempt to use the two accounts in a deceitful way. I did not "warn" Willbackhouse1, I merely asked them to confirm the connection (which I see they have not done). As for Justright89199 saying ""I can assure you that Willbackhouse is also [Teddy McDonald].", Justright has no way of knowing that; they are merely suspicious. -- MelanieN (talk) 20:12, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry, I guess I'm the one who needs a lot of warnings, MelanieN. Or at least maybe not exactly "warnings," but information posts. Thanks again. Friend505 (talk) 21:03, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
What about the potential conflict of interest between Willbackhoused1 and the real person Teddy McDonald? Also, what about ArtWriter1? Even if there is no sockpuppetry occurring between the three accounts and if Justright89199's claim is wrong, it seems like that a conflict of interest could still be occurring. Please take a look at Justright89199's talk page. In another post, Justright89199 talked about this potential conflict of interest. I am posting all this load of stuff on Darren-M's talk page since Darren-M had already posted a potential conflict of interest message to Willbackhouse1's talk page. Thank you. Friend505 (talk) 21:07, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Well, yeah, so based on what you said, MelanieN, I think we should stop thinking about the topic of sockpuppetry between the three accounts, since the two accounts ArtWriter1 and Willbackhouse are non-active, so even if ArtWriter1 is Willbackhouse and Willbackhouse is (and actually 99% is) Willbackhouse1, it would not be called sockpuppetry. I understand. But what about the conflict of interest? There have been rumors that ArtWriter1 is Teddy McDonald. Also, if ArtWriter1 is Willbackhouse (and, of course, Willbackhouse1), then that means that if the rumors are true, then Willbackhouse1 is Teddy McDonald himself. I need help and advice on what to do about Willbackhouse1 and the Teddy McDonald article. Of course, I'm not suggesting that the article be deleted. However, asking Willbackhouse1 who Willbackhouse1's real identity is would be a breach of the privacy of this Wikipedian, especially if he is not Teddy McDonald. However, I asked ArtWriter1 whether or not ArtWriter1 was Teddy McDonald, and Serial came up on ArtWriter1's talk page telling ArtWriter1 not to answer the question. ArtWriter1 did not do anything, and I apologized on ArtWriter1's talk page. The same privacy rule probably applies to any other user. Users should not be asked their identity. Users may provide information about themselves on their user pages by themselves, but other users are not supposed to ask them to reveal who they exactly are. I need advice about this topic. Thank you. Friend505 (talk) 21:53, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Here's the advice: drop it. Drop this line of investigation, stop talking about it. We are not allowed to ask people who they are in Real Life. We are only allowed to investigate whether somebody is using more than one account, deceptively - that would be sockpuppetry. And you and I are not the people who determine that, because we don't have the checkuser tool. If you keep talking about who you think an editor really is, you could get in trouble. I really, really would like to see you move on from all this obsession with other editors, and work on content instead. -- MelanieN (talk) 00:02, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

With regard to McDonald's article, this edit of yours is problematic (and, in fact, had to be suppressed). The reference used contained far too much personal information about a person named Teddy McDonald, but that was not the sole problem: per WP:BLP, in order for us to include contentious material about living persons, we need reliable, secondary sources. The source used was not a secondary source and, as such, the material in question should not have been added back. In the future, please be more careful when you edit BLPs. This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Salvio 11:50, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, MelanieN and Salvio, I shouldn't have dug too deep into the Teddy McDonald stuff. I hope you will forgive me. Thank you. And also, good point, the Willbackhouse and Willbackhouse1 account relation is not relevant since the Willbackhouse account is not being used anymore, and we shouldn't speculate about the relation between ArtWriter1 and Willbackhouse or Willbackhouse1; either way, ArtWriter1 is also not being used anymore. Sorry. If anyone wants to suppress this content, you can, but please notify me before doing so so that I don't get a shock of having my content suddenly suppressed. Well, at least I didn't post this content onto an article in Wikipedia. If I did, I would be in trouble. Well, thanks again. Friend505 (talk) 11:59, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Sorry for bothering you, Salvio, but I would like to know if I am already in trouble or something. I hope that I am not. Thank you. Friend505 (talk) 11:59, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
