restore tranche from trench[edit]

See: Tranche. It comes from French for "slice". Financial markets formalize the nature of these slices not so differently than systems programmers, library developers, and application coders each have their own "slice" of the programming enterprise. My choice of word might be a triffle too literary, but it was metaphorically apt which "trench" calls into play all the wrong cliches (to invoke another word of French origin).
