Rutherford's mug

I can't actually see the images you linked me to (I need an account?), but I'm largely agnostic on the question of lead image. I sort of like that the current one provides some colour where a photograph wouldn't, though the same would be true for Sifton and Stewart, and yet I seem to have gone with photographs there. Just one caution: make sure any new image you upload under the pre-1949 rule was a Canadian photo. One of the most widely used photographic portraits of Rutherford was taken in the UK and I don't believe that it's in the public domain. Other than that, do as you think best; I have no aesthetic sensibilities anyway. Steve Smith (talk) 01:57, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Looks good to me, though you might want to give yourself credit somewhere as the tracer (it's implied, but not stated). Also, whatever document Rutherford House provided wasn't dated? Steve Smith (talk) 02:03, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bryan Hall requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. AfD nomination of Anton Burdasov

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Anton Burdasov. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anton Burdasov. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Again, Chamberlain signature

Premier of Alberta signatures

Hi Connormah - I'm wondering if you'd be willing to work your magic in adding signatures to the infoboxes of some of the premiers of Alberta other than Stelmach. So far, I've found digital signatures for Herbert Greenfield (his is the second from the top), Richard Gavin Reid, and William Aberhart (towards the lower left of the prosperity certificate). Anything you could do with those would be much appreciated. Steve Smith (talk) 00:57, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, here's Klein. I'll e-mail you those others straight away. Appreciate this. Steve Smith (talk) 01:04, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
I searched through the Glenbow Archives' scanned documents for all of them, and couldn't turn up Rutherford; that's no guarantee that he isn't there, since these searches involve a certain amount of guesswork, but I couldn't fine him. One thing I did discover is that he used to sign high school diplomas (I assume in his capacity as Minister of Education), so maybe one of those can be tracked down somewhere? I'll let you know if I find anything elsewhere, anyway. Steve Smith (talk) 01:18, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Man, I knew Sifton signed the Treaty of Versailles! I wrote the damned article about him, in which it says that! Why did it not occur to me that there'd be a copy of that around somewhere? Where'd you get Brownlee and Stewart? I'm going to take a wild guess that it was the resource transfer agreement, since they'd both be on there. Anyhow, nice work. Steve Smith (talk) 23:48, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Can't think of anything. There's got to be something, though, a formal setting up of some kind of important Alberta institution? I'll keep thinking on it. So now we're just missing Manning through Getty, right? Steve Smith (talk) 23:56, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
You're a machine. I'll keep my eyes open for Rutherford, Strom, Lougheed, and Getty. Steve Smith (talk) 02:49, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
If you're in Edmonton and willing to make physical visits to places to find signatures, surely Rutherford House would have something for Rutherford? Or at least know where something could be found? Steve Smith (talk) 00:15, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello Connormah. You've replaced a painting of Brock, that was probably taken from life in 1809, with a heroic reconstruction painted in 1883, long after his death. Please explain on the article Talk page why you think this one is better. There is a discussion already on the talk page about how Brock looked, with a link to a paper by a historian at the Canadian War Museum, who studied the portrait matter in great detail. EdJohnston (talk) 00:04, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Please go ahead and remove my addition if you do not find it beneficial for the article. Connormah (talk) 00:06, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. Another editor has now incorporated the 1883 painting into a later section of the article. EdJohnston (talk) 18:18, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Cushing

The link doesn't work. Could you tell me how to get there from archivesalberta.org? My immediate reaction, though, is that anything from that time period in Calgary signed by "W.H. Cushing" is going to be our guy. Steve Smith (talk) 03:14, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

What page? Steve Smith (talk) 03:19, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, a politically active manufacturer from Calgary named W. H. Cushing in 1914? I think we can be pretty confident. (The second link didn't work either; these archive sites frustrate me to no end with the lack of direct linking capability.) Nice find, anyway. Steve Smith (talk) 03:25, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
No, no, I've seen the image. Your instructions to search for it worked fine; it's just the links that didn't. Steve Smith (talk) 03:55, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Premiership of John Brownlee

Any chance you'd be able to revisit your comments here in the near future? I'm afraid it's in danger of being archived for lack of reviews, and I'd obviously rather not see that happen. Steve Smith (talk) 12:03, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Photo information

Hey, could you update the information for File:David Milwyn Duggan.JPG? I gather the source isn't the EPL anymore (and if it is, maybe you could provide a link?). If we know anything about the author and date, that would also be cool to add. Thanks, Steve Smith (talk) 03:52, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Henry Hudson's date of birth

Hi. Could you provide a primary source that gives Henry Hudson's date of birth as 1570? As far as I know, no information exists on Hudson prior to 1607. I believe all of the dates given for his year of birth are simply guesses. Jonas Poole (talk) 01:45, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, actually the burden of proof is on you since you are the uploader, but basically, I haven't seen those Mexican presidents putting their signatures in the public domain (and I think that's highly unlikely); I took a quick glance at the Mexican copyright laws and I found no mention of ineligibility of signatures, and obviously, if protected, the copyright haven't lapsed (it's life + 100 years in Mexico). As you probably know, "All creative works are copyrighted, by international agreement, unless either they fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed." (Wikipedia). So, unless you find an exception to signatures in the Mexican laws, I think you cannot claim that they are in the PD. Otherwise, please let me know. Cheers, - Esteban Zissou (talk) 12:49, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Assumption. - Esteban Zissou (talk) 17:11, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Note that to be uploaded to Wikipedia, they need only be in the public domain in the U.S. To be uploaded to the Commons, they need to be in the public domain in both the U.S. and the country of origin. I know nothing about Mexican copyright law and little about the copyright eligibility of signatures, so I won't comment further. Steve Smith (talk) 17:25, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

There is a discussion about this at Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop#Signature of Nicolaus Copernicus. Frankly, I don't see the point of doing this. SpinningSpark 10:16, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

While reading the article on Office 2010, I noticed the logo was different from the one on the official Microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/default.aspx. Upon looking at the file behind the article's picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MS_Office_2010_Logo.svg), I saw that you had reverted the image from the correct version to the incorrect one. Just wondering, why did you do this?

Thanks—Kevin chen2003 (talk) 04:04, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Reid

By my count, he'd have zero points at WP:TFAR, so it's probably not worth making the request. I didn't request Stelmach or the sex scandal, and both eventually made their ways to the mainpage, so I suspect that the same will be true of some others, eventually. Steve Smith (talk) 19:02, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

John Edward Brownlee's close to ready to go, so he'll likely be next. After that, it could be a wait, since nobody between Aberhart and Klein is even close to ready. I'm sort of doing them in order, so Aberhart's likely next, but I may also decide to get lazy and do Strom, since he'll be the least work of those remaining. Steve Smith (talk) 21:06, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
I've got 1937 Social Credit backbenchers' revolt there right now, and we're only allowed one each at a time. I'd like to put Brownlee up as soon as the revolt is either promoted or archived, which I'd expect would be within two or three weeks. Steve Smith (talk) 21:20, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Dief

Well, the article isn't QUITE finished yet, but I've submitted it for peer review (I will be travelling internationally for a week this coming month and don't want to have it at FAC while I'm gone, so I'm tentatively scheduling FAC to start around January 20). Do you think you could read the article over yet to make sure I haven't made any howlers, especially as regards Canadian usages? I apologize in advance for not ending every sentence with eh?. Happy New Year!--Wehwalt (talk) 00:37, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Also, I think you mentioned you were looking for a Dief signature on a letter. This seems to be more like a card for an autograph than a letter. It must have been done 1976 or later as the letterhead refers to him as C.H. (Companion of Honour).--Wehwalt (talk) 10:33, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

About Ferdinand Magellan and Harold Alexander

Hi Connormah, I want to tell you that your request about Ferdinand Magellan and Harold Alexander are already been done... But, I think you should consider to request from Commons Graphic Lab, instead from Wikipedia Graphic Lab. Why? Because the image originate from Commons. But, it's okay to request it at Wikipedia Graphic Lab regardless of image location. I hope you like the result. Ivan Akira (talk) 09:41, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Connormah! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 942 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Orphaned non-free image File:Bungie Studios Logo.svg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Bungie Studios Logo.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. please do not undo revisions without providing edit summary and reason

The recent edit that you made to the page Criticism of the Catholic Church has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Please use the sandbox for testing any edits; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing for further information. Looking through your recent edit history, it seems you may not not using your recently-granted rollback rights with due forethought. Thank you. 208.59.93.238 (talk) 03:55, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Nonsense on my talk page

Unconstructive edit? You must be kidding me. I provided two detailed explanations in the edit summary. That part of the text IS wrong and should have been correted, completely rewritten or removed a long time ago. If you disagree, say so, go ahead and revert the edit, but please refrain from taking me for a troll without a good reason. And be careful before throwing warnings around.201.37.75.85 (talk) 00:16, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok, then. The etymology section is important, but the information provided there was completely unreliable, and in fact contradicted by any dictionary. But I see what you mean, maybe I should have raised the issue on the talk page first. That would prevent misunderstandings... 201.37.75.85 (talk) 00:29, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Revert of New York Tendaberry edit

I noticed that you reverted an edit (not mine) to New York Tendaberry. The editor had changed "a music album" to "an album" and you reverted it (using WP:HG) without providing a rationale in the edit summary. I am curious as to the rationale for the revert. There are many other articles about albums that use the word album (or other terms such as LP) in the opening sentence, and there is no guideline in WP:MUSTARD that the opening sentence should use music album instead of album. Indeed, the wikilink "Music album" redirects to the article "Album"; the article Album doesn't even refer to the term music album. If I was the reverted editor I would be puzzled by your revert, and without an explanation in the edit summary I might assume your revert was arbitrary and based on your personal preference. Thanks --hulmem (talk) 04:46, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Apologies on my count. Another screwup on my part, I'll take all responsibility. Thank you for taking it about civilly, though. Connormah (talk) 04:48, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Goatboy

Hello Connormah. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Goatboy, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Re:Your block of 172.162.230.29

Hi Connormah. I have full faith in your judgment to assume that 172.162.230.29 will probably be back after the block expires. But remember that blocks are not to be used as punishment (see WP:BLOCK#Duration of blocks). If you're feeling uncomfortable about 172.162.230.29, feel free to report them to WP:AIV again should they start to vandalize after the block expires. Copyrights on signatures

If I remember correctly, you were the one who asked me about signatures recently. To this point, all of the signatures I've added have been copied from books that were in the public domain. However, I recently found a book in my local library that was autographed by a past Kentucky governor in 1991. Is that copyrighted? What is the rule regarding copyright on signatures? Acdixon (talk contribs count) 13:03, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

I reverted this 'cause I really feel the previous image was significantly better. I don't know who did the drawing or painting you selected, but the photograph seems better to me. - Denimadept (talk) 22:05, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

It occurs to me that I'm being consistant. Someone changed the Hoover Dam main image at one point and I reverted that too, back to the image by Ansel Adams. Well, good luck on finding what you're looking for. I look forward to seeing it. - Denimadept (talk) 23:49, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I've uploaded a higher res, black and white of the same image. Can we re-add? Connormah (talk) 23:51, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I still don't like this image, but I've reverted myself. The previous image looks better: younger, better dressed, looks presidential rather than, shall we say, post-presidential, but it's not worth arguing over. - Denimadept (talk) 05:50, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

The article Gwendolen Clarke has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable local elected official, does not meet WP:POLITICIAN.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 03:12, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
