Haunted Mansion

Thank you for adding a source. Please keep in mind that per WP:BURDEN, it is the ultimately the responsibility of the editor adding the proposed content to the article to provide a source. While it is encouraged for editors to do a quick search before removing unsourced content, this is not required and doesn't teach the editor to fish. Furthermore, when you're like me and you police hundreds of different articles daily, even a quick search isn't within the time constraints that I have. On occasion, I will do the search, but often times, that will not be the case. Thanks for picking up the slack this time around. --GoneIn60 (talk) 19:49, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Yes, the burden is on the editor adding the material to source it. However, mindlessly reverting good-faith new editors is an excellent way to drive them off (WP:BITE). If you're watching so many pages that you can't afford to spend 30 seconds on a Google search to check whether a claim is true or not, you're watching too many pages. Conifer (talk) 19:55, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Taking a closer look at the reversion (diff), any editor (new or old) can clearly see the reason for the reversion as well as links to helpful articles that explain it in more detail. This meets item #3 in the section How to avoid being a "biter". You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think you and I can agree there are worse offenses than simply reverting an unsourced edit. --GoneIn60 (talk) 20:15, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
You are firmly within your rights to revert all the unsourced edits you want. But I think quickly checking for a source yourself is far more beneficial to the project than linking an editor to a long policy pages filled with specialized terminology. Show newbies how to properly cite sources, don't tell. And at the very least, have the courtesy to leave a user talk message explaining why you removed their edit. Not everyone is familiar with the watchlist. Conifer (talk) 20:24, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Duly noted, and thanks for the advice. I do place warnings/notices 99% of the time following a revert, with the exceptions usually being that someone else has already posted a similar warning/notice recently. In this case, you can see the user was well aware, but viewed it as impolite. Also, I saw your welcome message, so I didn't feel the need to go that route either. I will be more mindful of this in the future, however, especially with newer users. --GoneIn60 (talk) 20:45, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Fair point with the warning. Conifer (talk) 20:47, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 20

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited MAX Light Rail, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hillsdale. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project question

Hi Conifer! I've got a question for you! – In your recent update to the Blue Line (San Diego Trolley) article about the Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project, you say construction is slated to begin in 2016. I checked your FTA reference on that, and couldn't find any info about when construction is slated to begin. For the last year, I've been hearing that (heavy) construction will begin in late 2015. So I'm wondering where you may have gotten the updated "2016" construction start date. Thanks in advance! --IJBall (contribstalk) 03:26, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

I got the updated date from the SANDAG project website, but forgot to cite it. I've added it into the article—thanks for reminding me. Conifer (talk) 12:48, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Sockpuppeting Allegation

The second account you identified is indeed an alternate account of mine. You can see the response I posted on the allegation page. Do I need to do anything else to clarify the distinction? • Ridleyjr (talk) 15:39, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

@Ridleyjr: I see that you have committed to using only the Ridelyjr account. Please only create alternate accounts if you have a valid reason (WP:SOCK#LEGIT) and make sure to identify any alternate accounts as such. Conifer (talk) 20:34, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

GaurangKatyal

Hi Conifer,

My first attempt to write an article. I was not trying to make it promotional or perform any advertising here, but of what I learnt about Avdhoot baba shivanand, I tried to add an article to Wiki, because how can something not exist in Wiki :-)

Could you please let me know what were the mistakes with the article? such that we can remove that and then further ask other people to contribute more. ~~GaurangKatyal~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaurangkatyal (talkcontribs) 18:03, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

@Gaurangkatyal: I can't see the content of Avdhoot Baba Shivanand because it has been deleted. You can try asking at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion to have the article restored as a userspace draft so you can work to remove the promotional content. Conifer (talk) 07:49, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Staqu Discussion

I am trying to create a page for the company that i have co-founded. This is my first try at wikipedia. I received a message that Staqu has been marked for deletion. Kindly let me know of the reasons for the same. Pankajksharma92 (talk) 20:07, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

@Pankajksharma92: First of all, we strongly discourage people from creating articles where they have a strong conflict of interest (such as being a company founder), because it compromises their ability to write from a neutral point of view. The reason the article is up for deletion because I think it doesn't meet the guideline for companies to be included in Wikipedia, which requires substantial coverage in independent, reliable sources. Staqu only has references to the company website, which isn't independent of the subject, and a business article that seems to be promotional of the company. Conifer (talk) 20:29, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your suggestions. I decline. However, you can ask to change your name to Bongo Drums. No names left!! abcd (talk) 19:51, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Restomod Air

Hello Conifer,

Could you help me understand why the page Restomod Air has been tagged by you for deletion? This is my first attempt to create a page on Wiki and I am very green on setting things up correctly. I understand your rejection of the article is due to "lack of third party coverage". I have added several external links to show media coverage we have obtained. Could you point me in the right direction on what is allowed or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hollywoood MIke (talkcontribs) 15:13, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

@Hollywoood MIke: Those sources you added are good. You might want to read WP:CORP, since it's the guideline companies must meet to be included on Wikipedia. Conifer (talk) 21:09, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

ok, thank you I will do now — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hollywoood MIke (talkcontribs) 16:25, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Deletion Policy

Hello Conifer, I'm sorry I accidentally saved the article while I was still writing. The finished article does include more sources. I was only trying to understand the system when I saved it since this is my first article. Sorry, the article is the one on Sahir Rasheed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loveentertainment (talkcontribs) 11:47, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

@Loveentertainment: The deletion discussion will run for seven days, so you have plenty of time to add more sources to show that the subject meets the notability guideline for people. Conifer (talk) 18:24, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Jannat2208

Then what should I do? I have added a link as you recommended. What else can I do? Jannat2208 (talk) 14:22, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

@Jannat2208: The article you created was deleted twice for not having a claim of significance. Simply being an actor is not enough to merit inclusion in Wikipedia—they must meet the notability guideline. Conifer (talk) 18:26, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Deleted my page!!!

Thanks so much for deleting my page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reason:

Because it was about a business or organisation and it was not clear why it was important. Absolute joke, so a page about a random thing that no one cares about is important but about a company is not.

The fact is this was my first post/page and YOU have totally demotivated me to do anything better!

Crack on enjoying your power trip!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Normal Cornwall (talkcontribs) 08:42, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

SO:

A tag has been placed on Alarm guard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

BUT IT IS OK FOR ADT AND OTHER AMERICAN CO's TO HAVE A PAGE!!!!!!! BUT NOT MY COMPANY??!>?!Normal Cornwall (talk) 08:51, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

@Normal Cornwall: Simply being a company is not notable enough to merit inclusion on Wikipedia. If you want to keep contributing to Wikipedia, try writing on a topic unrelated to yourself or your company. Conifer (talk) 17:38, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

You really are a jumped up moron, why can I not write on a topic related to myself? or any company to do with me or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Normal Cornwall (talkcontribs) 21:47, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

I don't need to cite my sources for my edits for the LA Port Police

Hello there!

I would just like to say that I do NOT need to cite my sources on the Los Angeles port police page. Because everything that I had typed, I have used from my knowledge about the department from officers who I have spoken too. As well as doing a lot more research in my own. Lapd12 (talk) 01:27, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

@Lapd12: Thanks for your enthusiasm about contributing to Wikipedia. However, material based on your own observations or recollections cannot be included on Wikipedia per our policy on original research. However, the website of the Port Police would count as a verifiable source. Conifer (talk) 07:17, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
