Help me![edit]

Hi. Do you offer the ability for a new editor (myself) to submit what they have created so far for a BLP for proofing to someone (or something) on Wikipedia to let me know if it is following the correct guidelines and protocols? Please help me with... Also, wasn't sure how much of the content I've provided needs to be sourced. For example, a question I have is, does every reference to a collaboration with a person and/or accomplishment need to have a cited source to prove this as fact? Heatherruthcreative (talk) 21:58, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to start a new page, please use the Article Wizard to create a Draft, which will be reviewed by experienced editors after submission. For BLP articles, everything needs to be referenced. If you can't find a source for a fact, don't include it. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 22:44, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) All Wikipedia content should be a summary of what reliable sources such as newspapers or reputable magazines report about the subject. That goes not just for collaborations but also for claims such as "multi-award winning" (I can't even tell from the article which awards he won, and those references I checked did not mention any), "Bright’s current success with Carrie Underwood has resulted in 21 #1’s" (who credits Bright's work with those #1's?) or "Bright’s production work has resulted in over 86 million units sold worldwide". It's generally recommended for new editors to make use of the Article Wizard to create a draft and to submit it for a review by an experienced editors. If you want me to, I can turn your page into such a draft. At a glance some of the references are not quite reliable (for example, press releases), large parts of the content are not based on the given sources at all, and the sources generally do not seem to cover Bright in any detail. Those issues should be addressed rather soon, or the page might be nominated for deletion because currently it doesn't seem to comply with core content policies such as that on verifiability and a neutral point of view.
On an entirely unrelated note, your username suggests you might be associated with this organization. Are you? Huon (talk) 23:13, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac: Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful!

@Huon: Yes, if you wouldn't mind turning my page into such a draft for review, that would be most appreciated. And yes, my username is associated with that URL, as it is my personal design portfolio. I am a freelance graphic designer. HRC is not an organization, there are no employees, it is just myself. Please let me know if this poses a problem for or with anything? Thank you again.

Heatherruthcreative (talk) 23:50, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Question for you, Heather, which might determine if Huon moves the page. I noticed that the old version of the page has him being born in 1941, while you have put in information that say he was born 1959. Is this the same Mark Bright? If not, the new information will have to be forked into a new article. Primefac (talk) 01:02, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac: Yes, this is the same Mark Bright, his birthdate on the old version was incorrect. HIs correct birthdate is truly 1959.

Some comments. First of all, I'm sorry, but I did not look closely enough at the page in question and had assumed you had created it. Now I see it was written back in 2012. I will not turn a page that has existed for years into a draft (which would temporarily leave us without a live article on Bright at all). If you want your changes to the page to be reviewed, you may want to ask for editors at a relevant WikiProject to take a look; if Bright's country work is what he's best known for, WT:WikiProject Country Music may be a good place to do so.
I'll also have to note that significant claims in the articles are unreferenced, misleading, and possibly even outright wrong.
Unfortunately there's another issue: You may want to change your username since it might be considered promotional; see WP:CORPNAME for the relevant paragraph of the username policy. You can make use of Special:GlobalRenameRequest to request a change of username. Please also review the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, and if you edit Wikipedia as part of a job, make sure you comply with the disclosure requirements laid out in the section on "paid contributions without disclosure". Huon (talk) 23:59, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Huon: I understand. Are you saying that any references must be printed (newspaper, magazine, etc.) to actually qualify as a solid citation or reference? Meaning, not even URL links referenced to major newspaper or magazine or other media websites are good enough? Some of the accomplishments are cited in other credible country music websites, and not all are printed on paper. Just making sure I understand so I know what to look for. Thanks.

Wikipedia accepts both online and print sources if they are reliable - that is, subject to editorial oversight with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Huon (talk) 00:41, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Huon: Okay, thank you. I will submit the article to the WP Wizard for review to get started.

As Huon said, the Wizard is only for new pages. This page has been on Wikipedia since 2012. Their advice (which I agree with) is to make a post at WT:WikiProject Country Music asking for assistance with the new version of the article (in addition to adding new sources).
Two other things - first, you really should change your username (see WP:CHUS), and second, when you sign a talk page post put four tildes (~~~~) so people know who wrote the message. Primefac (talk) 00:54, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am currently working on updating an existing BLP page and have submitted it to WT:WikiProject Country Music asking for assistance with the new version of the article (in addition to adding new sources). While collaborating with this, I had a question. The BLP page I am updating has been subject to false information and tabloid journalism edits being made in the past. Does Wikipedia offer a way to "protect" a page, or to at least "block" another user from making false information claims or edits again? Thank you. ClericalEditor (talk) 18:15, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If there is a dispute regarding the veracity of a statement (or set of statements) a discussion should be held on the talk page to determine a consensus on what should (and/or shouldn't) be included. If a page is being vandalized by anonymous users it can be protected by requesting it at WP:RPP. If a specific user is intentionally and continually engaging in harmful edits without engaging other contributors then they could potentially be blocked from editing via WP:ANI. Primefac (talk) 18:39, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac:Thank you, that is what I was needing! ClericalEditor (talk) 19:55, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Bright article[edit]

I've tried to help a little, adding a ref. The article has miles to go to meet standards. It is unfocused at present, just a lot of facts put together. Break it down into logical sections, such as beginnings, development, success, honors/awards. Avoid puffery. Make it sound encyclopedic in tone, leave out "multi award winning" and such. You don't have to build him up. Dig deeper— How did he acquire "Delbert's Boy Music"? Search books and newspapers, not just "Google". It takes hours of work, so make sure you have the commitment. Look at my articles about record producers HERE and HERE. I think it would be better to work on the original page. Good Luck--Eagledj (talk) 14:15, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Eagledj:Thank you! I really appreciate your help.

Hi ClericalEditor. I don't want to hijack your article. From what little I've done, you can see the direction we're going, so jump in and have a go. Just ask if you get stuck, using my talk page HERE. Happy researching!--Eagledj (talk) 01:21, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Clericaleditor I have just worked on the Mark Bright article. I need your help on a couple of items: I need to know where Bright was born. His family did not move to Longview, TX until he was 5 years old. Can you verify his place of birth? Secondly, can you find a photograph of Mark Bright that is not copyrighted? Anything we find on the internet WILL be copyrighted and can't be used. Take a look HERE and HERE. Best regards--Eagledj (talk) 19:36, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
