Question from Aliuola (07:43, 26 April 2024)

Hello, good day How can I add an article of mine? --Aliuola (talk) 07:43, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

Aliuola Good day and thank you for the question. First of all for a article to be published in Wikipedia main space, the subject needs to pass Wikipedia notability guidlines. The subject needs to have significant coverage by independent, reliable sources where by the sources talk about the subject in lenght and in dept and not merely passing mentioned for verification. Pls read WP:Your first article for info and instructions. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 09:24, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks

Starting to get familiar with Wikipedia and it’s guidelines and wanted to thank you for it. I appreciate you always being here to help. Recently ActionHeroesAreReal started adding back UNSOURCED information to the article Badr Hari and I intervened. I reverted their changes because the user failed to cite a reliable source regarding the information they are putting out. You can check my response to the situation on their talk page, I hope they read Wikipedia:But it's true!. Articlread (talk) 01:35, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Articlread Good day. I saw and thank you. I have added a warning message on the talk page with links provided for citation. Learning to edit Wikipedia is sharp learning curve. I remember when I started, I have no idea how to edit or where to find info/guidlines until an experienced MMA editor sent me a welcome message on my talk page. After that, I started to read the guidelines few hours per day for months. You have over 1.5k main space edits and I believe you know some of the basic guidelines. If you want you can take WP:TWA 30 mins short program to understand the basic edit/guidelines. I find it very helpful as I took it years ago. The program system might not work well with mobile but it work well with laptop. If you find you have problem with laptop then I can send you the 13/14 guidelines to you. Thank you very much for your contribution and you are welcome to pop back here if you have any questions or needed any assistance for I am here to help. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 10:43, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
Cassiopeia you are welcome. There is an issue right now on this article (Vidyut Jammwal), the same user ActionHeroesAreReal is currently edit warring and is being disrespectful. Can you explain to me how to report this Disruptive user. Thanks. Articlread (talk) 13:59, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
How about you stop edit warring and removing sourced content? Do you also know that a martial artist is not necessarily a fighter, and therefore doesn’t need a “record”? You clearly know nothing about martial arts or fighting. ActionHeroesAreReal (talk) 14:09, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
I would also like to add that this user (OkayEiko) might be a sockpuppet. Cassiopeia your help will be greatly appreciated. Articlread (talk) 14:20, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
You cannot add a weak source promoting his film and say he is a martial artist. if you want to add something related to martial arts do it in the body of the article with a reliable source which states he practices said martial art per source ActionHeroesAreReal. Disrespectfulness and edit warring can get you banned on Wikipedia. you are new to this site and do not be emotional. learn from the ones with experience and always site a reliable source. Articlread (talk) 14:41, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
How about you stop edit warring and removing sourced content? Do you also know that a martial artist is not necessarily a fighter, and therefore doesn’t need a “record”? You clearly know nothing about martial arts or fighting. So stupid. ActionHeroesAreReal (talk) 17:22, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
newindianexpress isn't an reliable source at all. Untamed1910 (talk) 18:16, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
ActionHeroesAreReal you are overly emotional and you clearly are letting your feelings get in the way. Being disrespectful will get you blocked on Wikipedia. This is a site which works by adding reliable sources to the information you are putting out. Reliable sources and not just any source as you did on this article (Vidyut Jammwal). Not any martial art practitioner is a martial artist, martial artist is mainly put for real fighters who fought in competitions or have a reputable record to show for it and not just an actor who plays roles of a fighter in a film. Don't be emotional and attack other users on Wikipedia when you do not have a clue about your wrong doings. The totally useless revert you made on Jimmy Ellis (boxer) and the lack of civility you are showing is a proof that your feelings got hurt. Don’t be ego driven and immature, it is last thing a Wikipedia editor should be. Articlread (talk) 20:47, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
@ActionHeroesAreReal and Articlread: Good day and see below:
(1) Edit warring and 3RR - Both of you have violated the edit warring /3 RR (three revert rule) guidelines on Vidyut Jammwal page. If any editors having issue with an article with a particular editor(s), then bring the issues to the article talk page to discuss the matter. Any editor reverts 3 times within 24 hours on the same article and the reverted info is not a vandalism edits than the editor will receive a edit warring notification. If the editor continues to edit the 4th revert then the editor will be blocked from editing in regardless if the editor revert /source/content is justifiable/correct. I have placed a notification edit warring on both of you on your talk page so pls do not edit Jammwall page for you will be blocked.
(2)WP:Personal attack - Both of you have also violated this important guidelines and take this as a warning. If you continues to attack other editor(s), you will be blocked. Please note that when we communicate with other editors, we need to be always adhere to Wikipedia WP:CIVIL guidelines - no name callings, put down other editor, downgrade comments such as "Are you stupid, dont be stupid, immature and etc which both of you said it to each other on talk page and on edit summaries on Jammwal page. The key here is to comment on "the edit" but not the editor. Please be polite in your discussion/edit summaries on ALL talk pages. We are all here in collaboration to improve Wikipedia project and help and support each other that is the spirit of Wikipedia.
(3) Reliable source - Content added needs to be support by independent, reliable source by the editor who change/add the content for verification.
Many Indian newspapers are considered not 100% reliable as some sources are dealing with sponsored content, bias write-up, paid articles especially articles about celebrities and companies. I mention 2 Indian newspaper here as they are often seen in Indian celebrity/films articles in Wikipedia. At present, Wikipedia's views Times of India is an English major Indian news publication, with a pro-government slant, frequently includes rather promotional articles and interviews and New Indian Express is as unreliable in a broad discussion of Indian sources; thus this concludes both of the source are no consensus of reliability. However, Hindustan Times is generally considered a reliable source so I have added back the sourced "martial artist" info on the article. As per this article, indicates he know Indian "Kalaripayattu" martial art. Vidyut Jammwal is not a professional fighter/sportman but an actor and a martial artist just like Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan, Scott Adkins, Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Tony Jaa and etc.
Pls remember point 1 and 2 and refrain yourself from edit the said page and be civil to all editors in all talk page. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 12:05, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

RadioactiveradioWX Good day and thank you for interested in joining CVUA program. A editor needs to have at least 200 main space edit before they can join the program and currently you have a total of 24 edits and where you main space edit is 1 (La hora pico article). I strongly suggest you to talk a short WP:TWA program so you may understand the some basic Wikipedia guidelines. TWA program does not work with with mobile devices, it would better to work on the program on laptop. Once you have achieve over 200 main space edits and you are still interested to be part of the program then pop back here and let me know. Stay safe and best. Question from BPDeHuff (20:51, 1 May 2024)

Hello, and how do I create and insert a citation? Also, how do I highlight a name in blue and link it to another Wikipedia page or a outside web link? Thank you very much. barb --BPDeHuff (talk) 20:51, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

BPDeHuff Good day and thank you for the question. See below
  1. Wiki link - Click "edit source" and nested the text with double "square brackets".
  2. inline citation - use horizontal format of Template:Cite web and Template:Cite book for source from web and book respectively.
  3. I have reverted your edits on John P. Peters. You can find your edits HERE. You can add back the info as long as you can support the info from independent, reliable sources such as from the newspaper and books for verification. Pls note the editor who add/change the content is the one who needs to provide the source/inline citation - see WP:PROVEIT.
  4. Please see Help:Wikitext for more Wiki mark-up
  5. Pop back here if you have any more question as I am here to help. Welcome to Wikipedia. Cassiopeia talk 00:26, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from MDMurdoch33 (15:07, 3 May 2024)

Hello, what are the best resources to cite when making edits? --MDMurdoch33 (talk) 15:07, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

MDMurdoch3 Good day. Any sources that is independent, reliable source such as from the major newspapers, books and etc. Sources from social media, subject web site, or sources that are related/affiliated/connected the subject are considered not independent. Govt sources is considered not reliable for no fact-checking is in place. Please read WP:IS, WP:RS and WP:V for further details. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 07:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Nursulton Ruziboev page

Hello, I thought we were supposed to use Sherdog as the source for MMA records, which his what I did. I believe you reverted it back to what Tapology said. Also, I do now realize I made some of the organization names too long, so I can fix that if you allow me to change it again. By the way, the "Stance" section with "Orthodox" only shows up when there is no source next to it. Creatorial (talk) 03:17, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Creatorial, Hi Good day. I have reverted my edits (not sure why I did that, may be wrong click which I didnt intended to for I just want to add "re-used" ref" - btw, thank you for informing me. Yes we use info from the Sherdog for the infobox section. However, if the info is not listed/available from Sherdog, then we see other source for the info along with its source. Sherdog does not provide "Stand" and "Reach" info so we can either get it from UFCstats or Tapology. When we do that and the source need to cite the source. For any info that use on different parts/places on an article - in this case the "Reach" and "Stand" we need to cite the source in one of the info and "re-used" the ref for the 2nd info - see HERE. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 03:28, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Paulo Costa page change

Hello, my name is Mounir Darbaki and I'm an employee at the UFC. I'm simply correcting the info on various fighters pages based on my direct contact with the fighters, and these fighters also post this information on their own social media pages. Moonear7 (talk) 19:29, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

Moonear7 Good day. May I know which edit(s) you referred to? - pls let me know the date, time and editor name (or Ip editor )- see HERE and pls come back to me. Cassiopeia talk 07:32, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
It was the version that listed Edvaldo Gonzaga, Kelson Pinto, and Carlos Costa as his coaches. 68.108.118.96 (talk) 03:20, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
Moonear7 Thank you for the info. First of all you have a conflict of interest (COI) since you work for UFC for any edits that the subjects are associated/affliated/connected with UFC which included all past and present UFC fighters, marketing agent, UFC fighters coaches, ESPN, and UFC staff. This means you are discorage strongly to edit those above pages. Pls declare on your talk page that your COI and see the instructions at WP:DISCLOSE. Cassiopeia talk 03:41, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Ok, I understand the COI, however, the information I'm providing is accurate. The aforementioned athletes/coaches are sharing this information publicly on their social media pages. Moonear7 (talk) 03:43, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Moonear7 If you have independent, reliable source such as from the newspapers, books or mma media sites, pls provide them on the article talk page or my talk page along with the info needed to be changed or added, and an interested editor will edit it for you. However, if you dont have the source from independent, reliable source that the info can NOT be added/changed since Wikipedia policy is verifiability from independent, reliable source for info added/changed. Since you are here, if you have taken any UFC fighters photos (you are the copyright holder = you took the photo) and would like to release the copyright of the image for anyone to use it, then pls upload them Here and I will crop them in right size to place in the subject pages since we have a hard time to find copyright free images of past and current fighters' images. On behalf of Wikipedia and all MMA editors here, we thank you in advance. I have place a COI message on your talk page since it has come to my attention of your COI with UFC. However, you can edit any pages in Wikipedia as long the subject (the article) has NOTHING to do/associated/affiliated/connected with UFC. Thank you and best.

Tool of the week

  • Wikidata periodic table - Tool by User:Ricordisamoa, to browse all chemical elements available on Wikidata, with atomic number, chemical symbol, and localized label. It also includes two charts of the nuclides, with links to every isotope in Wikidata, colored by half-life or decay mode.

Other Noteworthy Stuff

  • A new UI mode is available for the online validator for EntitySchemas. It represents validation reports as a table rather than a very long string, and replaces most links with hyperlinks with some of the text behind them; making them easier to read. Currently being tested at https://shex-validator.toolforge.org/packages/shex-webapp/doc/shex-simple-improved.html, we are looking for participants to evaluate this tool. Some experience with editing Wikidata is appreciated, but no experience working with Schemas is required. If you are interested, you can sign up here. We hope to begin interviews around May 13. ESPN

If you're making the argument that ESPN cant be used for UFC fighters, we're going to have a TON of references to remove. Theres five on that Paulo Costa article alone. And for that matter, UFC.com wouldnt be considered independent either. Nswix (talk) 02:35, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

Nswix UFC is not an independent nor reliable source. We use UFC only when there is no other source can be used for info such as back then reach and stand for the fighter (now we can obtain almost all current UFC fighters' stand and reach from Tapology). We use UFC ranking for fighter as source and extremely limited fighter (direct info) of fighter bjj belt or other things. If we can find other sources to sub UFC source, pls do and highly encourage. ESPN is in contract with UFC and heavyly connected to each other for such make ESPN not independent for UFC and UFC fighter related pages. We dont use ESPN as sources and if the info can be found in ESPN, it always can be found in other MMA sites. (Note: ESPN used to buy content from Sherdog as back then they dont have they own reporters for MMA content and use Sherdog database until not long ago.) We can use extremely sparingly primary source when it is directly of the subject such as fighter's personal info or UFC ranking from UFC site (note: the UFC ranking is not ranked by UFc but by 21 MMA media which UFC records the outcome each week on their site instead on the respective MMA media sites).
