Feudal[edit]

Hi! You marked Feudal for deletion using the page curation tool. Thanks for contributing! However, next time you use this tool, could you possibly take a look at the page history (in this case here, but you can find it by clicking "View history" at the top of any page) to see if there was useful content in an earlier version of the page, before considering whether to mark it for deletion? New page tagging[edit]

If you are going to do New Page Patrol (which is an essential and under-appreciated activity), you should read the definitions at WP:CSD#List of criteria carefully. After years as an admin, I still find it useful to re-read them from time to time. The importance of choosing the right one is that the article author, often a confused newbie, should get the right message and maybe do better next time. A few comments on the tags you put on PROF. DR. AHMET BAYLAR yesterday. This was evidently the not uncommon case of a new user who thinks that Wikipedia is a social-networking site like LinkedIn. (I wish new users had to read, before signing up, a few sentences about what Wikipedia is not for, but that's another story).

Since the original author had actually blanked the page, the best tag was WP:CSD#G7, and that is what I used in deleting it.

If it had not been blanked,

  • WP:CSD#G10 is for actual attacks and seriously negative material ("X is fat and has no friends" or "Company Y are swindlers and you shouldn't deal with them.")
  • WP:CSD#G1 is only for the likes of "#*fg4*@1zz<@?~" or "YaaaaayLOL!!!!!!!". It needs to be used with care, because a newbie who posts something badly-written or in a foreign language will be offended if it is labelled "Nonsense".
  • WP:CSD#A7 is intentionally a fairly low bar, lower than WP:Notability: it requires only a credible claim of importance or significance, and being a Professor would be enough (though not necessarily enough for WP:PROF.
  • WP:CSD#G11 would be the right tag for this page, in view of the excessive quantity of information. Prof. Baylar may be notable, and in an ideal world one could tag the page or move it to Draft space for improvement. That is what I would have done with a less extreme case, but this was so far from being an acceptable article that WP:TNT applied.

It should not normally be necessary to apply more than one or perhaps two speedy tags. One valid reason is enough to delete, and too many may confuse the article author. There is general advice at WP:New pages patrol, and particular advice on speedy tagging from an experienced admin at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M.

Hello JohnCD: Thank you so much for the helpful advice! I just started editing WP pretty recently and I've learned so much already. Perhaps I should take a longer break from New Pages Patrol to read up (but it's just so fun...). I would just like to note that the first CSD tagging and blanking happened while I was viewing/editing the original, and I didn't know about them until after the page had been blanked a second time. I guess I should have checked the edit history after I made the CSD tagging. And yes, I can see now that 4 CSD tags was excessive. I saw a page that looked "very wrong" and tried to make it correspondingly "very delete-able".
I did have one question about WP:CSD#G10 though: my reason for including it was that the page contained a phone number and fax number among other personal information, and since it was unclear to me what purpose the author may have intended in creating the page, I thought it might have be a case of doxing. I've read over the CSD and related articles I still don't feel like I have a clear answer, so I'd really appreciate your response on that point.

If the personal details seem to be an attempt at doxxing added to an existing article, blank them or revert the addition and ask at Wikipedia:Oversight for them to be "oversighted" - a deeper level of hiding which means they are not accessible even to admins. That is done by email so as to leave no trail on-wiki. If it is a new article, G10 would be appropriate (which hides the page immediately and puts in a high-priority queue for admin attention) and the deleting admin can decide whether to request oversight
Much more usually, personal details are added by the subject themself, under the impression that this is a social-networking site. For an email address, I would just blank it and explain to them that spambots crawl this site so they will get unwanted messages, and they can use the Wikipedia email facility (enabled on the "user profile" tab under "Preferences") which does not reveal their address but allows other users to email them. For details facilitating physical contact, like home address or phone number, best to blank or revert and request oversight, particularly if the subject is a child. Hello, It seems an administrator have locked the page Anand Mishra and now it requires administrator access to recreate it. But now problem arises because I want to create an article name Anand Mishra but he is a different person with same name. I can guarantee you that I can prove his notability. Now my subject Anand Mishra is a Indian Commissioned police officer from Assam. He is a Superintendent of police of a particular administrative region. Please help ne regarding this.
