Hi Bonnie. I noticed the article, Sotiria Bellou, which you created earlier today. Please note that every contribution to Wikipedia must be licensed under a GFDL-compatible license. Your first edit summary, "Biography of Sotiria Bellou obtained 10 years ago from Liner Notes from her CD. Additional information would be appreciated", seems to indicate that the text probably comes from a non-GFDL-licensed text (assuming that most liner notes are not GFDL-licensed).

Wikipedia aims to be a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit; the definition of "freedom" as detailed in the recent Foundational resolution is based upon the Definition of Free Cultural Works specific to licenses (see freedomdefined.org) and includes:

• The freedom to use and perform the work ....
• The freedom to study the work and apply the information ....
• The freedom to redistribute copies: Copies may be sold, swapped or given away for free, as part of a larger work, a collection, or independently. ....
• The freedom to distribute derivative works ....

Most commercially-produced material (including, I assume, the liner notes that are the source of the article) are not freely-licensed under these terms. In fact, if you read the terms of use of most major commercial websites (as an example, see fox.com, in particular the section titled "Access and Use"), you will see they have crafted the most narow-possible terms of use, completely restricting these freedoms.

That said, there are some websites that produce free-content material that can be copied onto Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Public domain resources and Wikipedia:GNU Free Documentation License resources for examples) but, generally, editors are encouraged to produce their own content.

If the text is not freely licensed, I will suggest it be speedy deleted by adding this template to the page. Is there any reason to believe that these particular liner notes are freely-licensed? Thanks in advance, Iamunknown 01:06, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Depending upon the nature of the website, the website owner may not be the copyright holder. If it is an online store, probably not; if it is the band's own site, probably not; if it is the CD label's site, probably yes. I am not sure how you can contact the website if it is in Greek. This is becoming complicated; I suggest that, in the meantime, the page be deleted. --Iamunknown 03:41, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized.
