Help me template

Benjinhan: The idea was to add the 'help me' template to the course page. But as you see I not only did not transfer the links successfully, I generated a warning message. Help/advice appreciated.

I very much appreciate your willingness to help the students and the editing help on the course page but, I am sorry to say, not all of the edits have been helpful, e.g. replacing an actual page name with simply 'this page,' in effect substracting information from something I was trying to communicate to the students. Butterfly (Mariah Carey album)

Hi Bejinhan. I found you through the volunteer page, and have come to ask for your assistance. So I have recently significantly improved/expanded this article, but found that it also has been working against me. I found after working so much on the same subject, I don't realize sometimes how weirdly something is written etc. I would like to nominate the page for FA, so it needs to be perfect. I think I've done a good job, and I'd say the only issue is some MOS issues, and writing and sentencing (it's not so bad dw :)) So please, can you proof-read it from a "third party" point of view, and help refine its writing? Malaysia article

Hey, I'm about done with all I can think of on Malaysia. Is there anything which you feel is missing desperately from the article which could be placed there? I think Culture could use more sections, but I don't see that as an immediate priority, it shouldn't stop it reaching GA or A status in my opinion. Maybe one day though, Lat will make his appearance on the main article, under some sort of literature section. I noticed that Lat is almost a FA, very nice. Anyway, as you posted the last review, any comments you have should be useful.

I'd also like to apologize if I came off as brusque or insulting in any of my comments/edit summaries etc. I never meant to offend anyone. I'd also like to commend your work on the Malaysian wikiproject, been surfing through it, must be frustrating to make all those posts and receive no response, and to have such limited participation! Hey, thank you so much for your work on that article. It looks much better than before. For it to reach GA, I think we've got to deal with the citation needed tags first. The 'Natural resources' section is just full with them. When I got the article peer reviewed, I was told that the refs have got to be in placed first before it could go for GAN. I'll try to do more sourcing for some of the CN tags.
I actually did not noticed much of your edit summaries and wasn't offended by any of your comments. :) Thank you! I think the project is much livelier than it was before, although I'm not very satisfied with that yet. If you can contribute in any of the "administrative" tasks involved in running the project, please do! Again, thank you for all the work you put in the Malaysia article. Well, I came to the article and thought that this was an article which I knew something about. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of anything to do with the economy :p If anyone goes through the edit history they'll notice I left economy till last. I've done some searching for the natural resource section, and can't find sources that say exactly what is in the article, so if worst comes to worst it can either be removed from the article (although through hiding, so it could still be worked on) or rewritten completely in line with whatever sources can be found. As for the citation tag in the science and technology section, I honestly have used all my Boolean skills and not found any websites about that. If you find anything, please, but I think that unlike natural resources that is a statement that can't be rewritten, and will probably have to be deleted. Additionally, I turned up some deadlinks, so I'll have to look into those later.
I'm hesitant to get fully involved in any wikiprojects right now, but if there's anything you need doing and can't find time to do yourself, drop me a message, I'll see if I have time. Chipmunkdavis (talk) 14:11, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Haha, okay. When I first started working on it, it was horribly unreferenced and I was having a headache finding references. It looks way better now. I tried to do some googling but couldn't find any refs for certain of the statements. Like you said, these statements would probably have to be deleted if we can't find any refs. Welcome to Assessment with Wikiproject: U.S. public policy

It's different because the many of the articles are stub, start, or C class, and we are not working to assess long lists of articles, but will have multiple reviewers assessing the same set of articles. Hi Bejinhan, thank you for assessing articles in the Wikiproject: United States Public Policy, you were really quick - i appreciate it. This project is probably different than other assessment drives you have worked on, it involves more assessment of lower ranked articles, it has input and staff from the foundation, and specific goals to improve and measure content of public policy articles. It also involves collaboration from some university classes, we are using an experimental assessment rubric, and most articles will be assessed by multiple reviewers to get a range of scores for each article. I have learned a lot from many of the assessors comments and am really excited about the insight from this group of Wikipedians. I hope you are finding some benefits to involvement in this project. 1) your assessments are part of research that is attempting to increase credibility of Wikipedia in academic circles, 2) there is a great group of assessors involved in discussion of what is article quality and how to measure it, 3) WP:USPP is also piloting the Article Feedback tool, so if interested, those involved in assessment on the project will be asked to help improve and rate this tool as well, and 4) subject matter experts are assessing articles alongside Wikipedians and comparisons of results will provide some insight as to the rigor of Wikipedia quality rating.
To give you an update on assessment, about half of the assessments are complete for the first part of this first assessment. I had some trouble finding public policy experts to join us in assessing, but finally managed to recruit a group last week, hopefully some of them will join the discussion on the assessment talk page. Next week, I should have some preliminary results to share with you, I will also post the second assessment request very soon. The discussion on the talk page is very exciting, and I hope if you are interested, you will provide input on the Article Feedback Tool which is being piloted on articles in WP:USPP. Please let me know if there is anything I and the project team can do to make working on this project a more positive experience. We are half-way through our final round, entering the home straight. New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) leads at the time of writing with 1180 points, immediately followed by Hungary Sasata (submissions) with 1175 points. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) closely follows in third place with 1100 points. For those who are interested, data about the finalists has been compiled at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/finalists, while a list of content submitted by all WikiCup contestants prior to this round has been compiled at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Submissions. As ever, anything contestants worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Idea for your Malaysia draft

Why not create a custom Malaysia barnstar? Be much more reflective on peoples work. Could be based off something like these.

Thanks for looking through the draft. Yeah, that was why I left a comment of the draft page about it(in the 'Awards' section). I have a sorta rough idea of how it could be like. My only disadvantage is that I don't do photo editing and the like. If there are no disagreements about it, I think I'll leave a note about it in the graphics request page. I actually quite like the "Australian medal" above for style, but if you want just the star then I could "creatively" use the colours to create the star alone - maybe blue borders, yellow 14 point barnstar, with red/white fill, topped by the crescent in yellow. your template is having some problems

  • On User talk:Hcookeecs, My name (Ling.Nut, not Bejinhan) shows up as the person who placed the template, at least when I am viewing it, because you used "revisionuser". That's obviously wrong. You can feel very free to go back through my contibs and edit the template. Personally, I would suggest that you simply retire that template and use the good ol' stand-bys such as {{welcomeh}}. PPI Assessment Update

Thanks for contributing to WP:USPP, your assessments are a part of a deeper look at assessing article quality in Wikipedia. The quality and rationality behind the assessment scores by the Wikpedians on this project is really impressive, it is an insightful and knowledgeable group. There is some information about preliminary results of assessment data on the project assessment talk page, I hope you check it out and add your thoughts. There is also an additional article assessment request for you. This assessment set will wrap up the first experiment which analyzes the consistency of the quantitative metric and compares subject matter expert assessment to Wikipedian assessment.

The second experiment will start in November and you will be asked to assess articles and also provide feedback on the Article Feedback Tool. The results of that experiment will compare your idea of article quality to the ranking from the Article Feedback Tool and your input will help improve that tool. I hope you enjoy being a part of this research, I am pretty excited about the results so far, and am looking forward to continuing to work with you on assessment. Greetings, the Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. Hi,
On ANI you comment "Being brought to AN/I and receiving various warnings doesn't seem enough. " Enough for what? What do you think this would achieve that isn't happening already? Rich Farmbrough, 23:58, 21 October 2010 (UTC).

What I meant was that it wasn't enough for you to stop making disruptive edits. You were just recently brought to AN/I and we would have thought that that AN/I case was sufficient to stop you from making further controversial edits without consultation with the community. I believe that you do have good and sincere intentions behind most of your edits, but you needing multiple warning within a short period is overstretching the limit. Oh - well I understand that. I was taken to ANI the first time because I cleared my talk page - strictly against protocol I know, but really not a big deal, anyone could have brought a thread back from the archive if they wanted to or started a new one, and certain editors were spamming the threads. So - clear talk page, 30 minutes later ANI, 8 minutes after that I'm blocked - no time to comment on ANI, which bloats for the two days afterwards until I am unblocked. This time an editor reverted 15 template edits then a while later stuck me on ANI. Did not try to discuss the template edits with me. Did not inform me that he had reverted me - I could have carried on doing what he was objecting too, not knowing he objected. Does that make me the bad boy of Wikipedia? You might also like to compare my block record with that of the editor proposing the ban on - well pretty much everything I think. Rich Farmbrough, 03:01, 22 October 2010 (UTC).

No need to copy to my talk page. Yes that is true. But one of the things that is interesting about being "taken to ANI" is who jumps into the fray (I beleive it is reasonable to call it such). Two of the editors on the previous ANI that I spent a considerable time replying to turned out to be currently blocked or just unblocked. Roux, one would assume from his "This has to stop!" invective, has been on my talk page many times, pleading, nay begging, me to resolve bugs. Not so, he has communicated with me via my talk page precisely once, in July 2009, reporting a valid bug which was resolved in short order. Similarly other editors seem to have picked up the idea that I am doing "bad stuff" second hand, and agree that it "must stop" so are !voting for that. This is of course really tedious but I have decided I either give up and walk away, or I have to challenge these items of hearsay, and assumption. So it is not to be a pain in the neck, but because it seems unreasonable to have editing restrictions imposed under mistaken grounds. In particular, you say I'm "not wanting to answer calls for explanation". I'm sure the ANI thread gives that impression, but I just did a tally and I have posted nearly a megabyte of text to discussion pages since the start of the first ANI. You are invited to review the previous ANI (which petered out since there was nothing to say or do), my talk page, the October talk archive, my BRFAs and see if you still think I am reluctant to explain things. Well then, I suggest that you reply to this in the AN/I. Personally, I wouldn't make any decisions right now based on this, but I might change my mind later. I still need to think over this. Malaysia questions

Couple of questions on the article.

-There's a reference to <ref>Ninth Schedule. Constitution of Malaysia.</ref>, this may be a stupid question, but what is that?

-Do you know what to do with the Japan photo? I don't know enough about images and the wikilaws surrounding them. I found the original source though, its hidden noted on the page.

-Lastly, do you know where the largest cities table is from?

I found another source for population size, so that's okay I guess. It is different from the previous list, so I'm still wondering what the original was from. The Constitution of Malaysia is divided into various Parts and Schedules. Here is the list with the brief info.
Japanese photo - Remove it? It's not very good, IMO. Maybe there is a better one...? My internet is very crappy now... I'll try to search for one later.
I think that template was copied and pasted. There is no link to the template page for that specific list.
I saw the list of places of interests and tourist attractions. What do you think of it?
For the stats, would this work?

So, "Merdeka", should that translate to "Freedom" or "Liberty"? I've heard both used before.

Merdeka means "independence".

WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to New South Wales Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) and Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is New South Wales Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Connecticut Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! November 2010 backlog elimination drive update

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Yes, however, after talking to various editors, I have been advised to leave it. For several reasons... Firstly, I have insufficient sources to create a plot section. Secondly, there is a difference between FOX network and 20th Century Fox Television. Thirdly, it won't do to remove the 2nd paragraph of the 'Production' section since the lede is supposed to be based on what's in the article, and since I opted for the no-references lede, that section contains the references and those references are needed. Fourthly, the 'Reception' section contains a list of all the tv shows that resembled The Deep End and is crucial because ideas seemed to be taken from them. Thanks for the heads-up. I've found a lot of sources you aren't using in the article; these sources can be used to expand it. Have you done a thorough search for sources, including databases accessible from a library? Honestly, I've did many searches in Google, using a variety of keywords. And about library databases, I do not live in an area where the library offers such opportunities. I can only do searches in google or other search engines. No databases whatsoever. Bejinhan talks 12:15, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok, but I'm about to go to sleep, so it will have to wait for a while. Check my contribs to see my latest comments in the review. Also, The New York Times mentions that there was an interview with Billy Zane about the show on Good Morning America on or around Jan. 21, 2010 at 7am. Ok, will be waiting for it. I did not find the transcript but managed to get a few other sources. I'll continue working on the article tomorrow and hopefully, will be able to get 1 or 2 more pics. in. Quite a number of the sources contained many criticism of the show so I'm unsure if I should include that in. If I do, since there are quite a bit of it, there has to be another section for it. Here's what I'm going to do: I'll add the online sources I find to a "further reading" section, and if I have time, I'll highlight things about them in the review. If I find electronic copies in the database archives but no online copy, I'll e-mail you, which I already plan on doing for several. Thanks, I received your emails. What are your suggestions for the pictures? I've added the cast pictures that are available in commons. I couldn't find an appropriate picture of las collinas as they either did not give a good view or were of a building. Same here, but I'll do my best to wrap it all up by this coming week. I have more sources to send you. What kind of photo of Las Collinas are you looking for? Flickr has a bunch that would fit I think, and they are free to use (the ones I'm talking about, there are other non-free pics). Also, the other concern is that we still have six ABC links in the article that are either dead or deleted. Can you try to replace them with other links? If you can't, let me know and I'll try to help. Since those links are no longer working or archived, they aren't really verifiable, and this presents a problem. Ok, thank you. I was thinking of either Las Collinas or a soundstage. Yes, about those links. I've tried Hulu and it did not have any of the characters bio. There are some websites with it, but the info given is only partial and lacks what is needed for it to be used as a ref. I've tried searching for it in internet archives but was not successful. If worse comes to worst, I think I'll remove those links and replace the content with more descriptions from the various websites already cited. Also about the few websites used to cite the ratings. Are you subscribed to Variety.com? At this point of time, is it ok to request for someone to ce the 'Cast and Characters' section? Bejinhan talks 12:13, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll try to get to the copyedit tomorrow. I really want to see this article pass, but I can't really pass it with 11 dead links, can I? If it is at all possible to replace the dead links with active ones, or even print sources (online or off), that would help. On the other hand, this might be a good opportunity to think outside the box. In other words, you could try to restructure and salvage only the sourced content, and remove the rest. Yes, I understand. I have been trying to look for replacement links, hopefully will be able to find some. I do not have access to offline entertainment sources here. That was what I mean, removing the info that is using references from ABC and keeping the rest. Thanks for the encouragement! =) I'll be taking a look at the link you placed in the 'Further reading' section and will work on it asap.
