Brawl FAC

I'm going around and messaging any user who had discussed (or in your case, helped fix up the main task force page) on the Smash Bros. taskforce and alerting them about Brawl's second attempt at the FAC. Any comments are appreciated, especially constructive criticism. I don't want the FAC to drag out so long that SandyGeorgia will be forced to close it before things could be properly fixed. So if you have time, please leave a comment. Thanks very much in advance! --haha169 (talk) 04:51, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Pokemon moves

in response to your edit comment, i happen to completely disagree that everything in the subarticle is covered in the summary section at Pokemon game mechanics. Chiefly, the summary section does not dissect the aspects of moves to the point of discussing Power or Accuracy. Neither does the section fully explain the relationship of dual-typed pokemon when targeted by moves. by your language, "...there is no reason to have this extra article anymore..." it seems you are unfamiliar with the process by which the subarticle was born - it was originally part of the game mechanics article but was then broken out following WP:SS because it was noticeably distracting... i.e. the section isn't something that's been recently written as part of a process to merge. i'm changing things back, not because i want it my own way, but because there was no consensus for what was effectively deletion. there wasn't even discussion - not even a merge tag. you know, and i know, that's not how things are done here. if you'd like to discuss this further, i recommend adding a merge tag and starting a topic at Talk:Pokémon moves. but i strongly urge you to carefully read over the larger subarticle and try to just see if there are any parts that need to be rewritten rather than outright cut. -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 12:44, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

My reply here. Artichoker[talk] 20:38, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

i looked over your expansion to Pokemon game mechanics, and yes... adding that accuracy subsection further completes the Moves section overall, but there's still the complete lack of mention on Power - a clearly termed aspect. Please note, though, i'm not neccessarily saying you should add that... IMO i feel that going into that level of detail is unneeded on a higher level topical page. The idea of wikipedia is that we can be all things to all people (both specialist and general) because wiki is not paper. I commend your first attempt at merging, but i find it actually kind of hard of read and feel it may be b/c you're trying to be succinct and glib enough in order to fit everything in the section. Again, if you can add a Power section as well, but clean up readiblity so someone who's not so well-versed can understand, then i think it might be fine - although i feel the level of detail is better served at a lower level. Oh yeah, and it's not "my consensus" to give out. I just generally don't like it when people merge/redirect/delete full articles without any discussion or substantive edits to the merge target. As for AFD, don't you think something like this is prolly better suited to a talkpage discussion? I'm sorry if i came off bitey by my reactions and i look forward to working with you. Happy editing XD -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 05:50, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

My reply here. Artichoker[talk] 16:57, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

like i've said several times over, i don't control the page and cannot grant "consensus". To really see if there is consensus you need to follow the processes at WP:MERGE. Note, i'm not saying in every case you must follow this process, but b/c someone (namely me) has voiced opposition to this merger, the next course of action is tagging the articles - who knows, maybe i'm wrong and consensus has changed.... at which point you should merge the articles. but i don't want you deferring to me. in response to the edits themselves, i personally won't be convinced until i see the readibilty improvements. my reasoning is that you cannot make the section properly comprehensive and easy to understand without making it too long. If you can do such a thing, then KUDOS! to you and i'd fully support a merger. -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 17:25, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Another set of questions!
  1. Can the Lead section be 4 paragraphs? I wanna include the Beast Link Gate thing.
  2. Like how many sub-sections maximum should the Gameplay have?
  3. I don't know how to make a good Development. All I know is there is one in the article.
  4. What else should I put in critical reception?
  5. Any other thing I forgot?

Once again, questions:
  1. I fixed the Gameplay. Is it alright?
  2. What do I do? I can't find any interviews on the Net for the Development!
  3. Can I use in-game quotes as references? I saw they did that on Mega Man Zero 4, a GA article.

Not that I'm trying to get involved here, but I think Artichoker knows what he's doing with the article given he's managed to build it up to become a Good article candidate. Besides, I really don't think the Japanese-exclusive feature is noteworthy on the English-language Wikipedia. TheChrisD RantsEdits 03:46, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm not saying that Artichoker doesn't know what he's doing, I know he's done a good job at articles relating to pokemon games, and the kanto, johto, and hoenn regions. I'm just saying that the Japanese-exclusive feature should be noteworthy on the English-language WIkipedia because it's part of pokemon crystal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gasdgadsaf (talkcontribs) 20:40, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Ctrl-Alt-Delete

Hi, I'm not that well-versed in the policies of wikipedia and I see you are substantially moreso. In your opinion, taking into account the discourse on its talk page, does the editing of the CAD page potentially tread WP:COI ground? - DaoKaioshin (talk) 00:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

My reply here. Artichoker[talk] 00:41, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have explained my question better. I am not personally associated. However there are some editors whose only edits are on that page. From my reading of WP:COI, a vested interest seems to include such personal interests. - DaoKaioshin (talk) 14:52, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
My reply here. Artichoker[talk] 15:44, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

I think the fact that I provided a link, and the fact that although there is no proof of Buckley's deleting accounts etc., the fact that so many people share this opinion surely warrants it appearing on the page. It's hard to talk about CAD without mentioning it. "Many people share the view" or "Many readers believe that" would maybe be more appropriate prefixes to the rest of the article because there are no end of stories about this. Judging that this is one of the MAIN criticisms of CAD and Buckley himself, there is no way it should be left out of the "criticism" section (especially with the link provided) and I ask you to undo your edit.--GuerrillaClock (talk) 15:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

My reply here. Artichoker[talk] 15:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply, however, a suggestion, if I may. If there were to be a link posted to Yahtzee's website where he mentions the aforementioned criticisms of CAD, would this be acceptable. If the Yahtzee video is a reliable source then surely this website entry should be considered equally so. Thank you. --GuerrillaClock (talk) 21:32, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

My reply here. Artichoker[talk] 21:35, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Article

Hello, could you resolve this conflict over the CSGV missions page. What I have included is a brief summary of the organizations goals (right or wrong). Yaf has started a debate under each point about the merits of that goal (EG: Should guns be allowed in national parks because people might need to defend themselves against bears). He is injecting his own opinion about each of CSGV's goals into what should be a sterile summary of what the organization tries to do. If you look at his talk page you will see he is notorious for edit waring and unfair writing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.15.42.55 (talk) 20:15, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Regarding 86.134.54.54 (talk · contribs), I'm not sure that vandalism revert/warning was appropriate in that situation. It seems to me that they meant well, and their combativeness may well stem from feeling bitten by the harsh reception which unfortunately was their first interaction with any Wikipedian. There may not be a lot you can do, in this particular case, but please be mindful that not all odd edits are vandalism, and that interactions with newcomers can cause very sensitive first impressions. – Luna Santin (talk) 20:33, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Non-Canon Zelda

I don't want to get into an edit war over something so trivial, but declaring something as "non-canon" without a source is basically "original research". The fact that they weren't made by Nintendo doesn't cut it. Do you have any primary or secondary sources which confirm that it's non-canon? King Zeal (talk) 14:53, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Welcoming IPs

Hey there, Artichoker! When welcoming IPs that edit productively, it's often best to use a template that asks them if they'd like to register an account, like {{welcome-anon}} or {{welcomeanon2}}. We can always use more positive contributors! Keep up the good work, I don't often see other editors besides myself welcoming IPs. :) GlassCobra 18:14, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

3RR

This is just a heads up to remind you that you have now reverted the removal of the italics from the header of Full Moon o Sagashite three times. If someone else agrees they look weird and undoes it, you will violate WP:3RR if you revert again. Since people say supposedly regulars should not be templated, please considered this an "official" 3RR warning. Meanwhile, I've requested clarification on the issue. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 01:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

Alrighty. Evidently you've reverted the changes I made to the Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay article, and that's fine, if it was out of place, then I'm all for keeping Wiki articles within guidelines. But accusing me of sockpuppetry? Why, because I added a plot detail that had previously been added (and I'm guessing, removed)? Please, if you're going to hurl allegations at me over my first ever Wiki addition, try and make a stronger case. I saw the film earlier tonight, caught the post-credits scene, then looked the film up on Wikipedia. (I look up most films I see on Wikipedia, just out of curiosity, and to see if there's things I might have missed.) I noticed the scene was missing from an otherwise comprehensive plot section, so I added it in. If this has been added before and removed, then hey, get rid of it. It was my first ever edit, so I can handle being wrong or outside of the appropriate guidelines. (Which are extraordinarily difficult to find and put in context, especially for a new user, by the way.) But to then get a message saying I've been accused of this or that doesn't really make me want to continue contributing, especially with the guidelines, as I've mentioned, being so difficult to find and then get my head around. I'm sorry if repeated edits to that article have gotten up someone's nose, but I wasn't to realise this, and I'm afraid you are way, way off target with your accusation of sockpuppetry.

Now then, I'm new, and still not entirely sure I'm responding in the right way, or using correct formatting and so on. Let's hope I can appeal to the patience that is so obviously wearing thin with new and inexperienced users.

Thanks
