Meet up[edit]

You may recognise me from the photo here! I think it's the poney tail which gives me away. Leutha (talk) 16:00, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

External references[edit]

I replaced an expired link on the article about Patrick Bronte.

The new link works but it is now a purple colour while all the others are blue?

Have I done something wrong?

Armond Dean (talk) 12:46, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is not uncommon for internet browsers to show links you've already visited in purple; it's not even a "change" for anyone but you. Best regards.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:14, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Wiki biscuits are guaranteed zero calories!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Armond Dean! Thank you for coming here. I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. You can also check out Wikipedia:Questions or type help me at the bottom of this page. Here are some tips that you might find helpful:

  • Link to other articles with double square brackets
    • Click here for some articles where you can practice adding links to other articles. When you've got at least two blue links in the article you can remove the code from near the top of the page.
  • Add pictures from Wikimedia Commons using thumb for thumbnail|Left, right or center so it knows where to go|a meaningful caption|alt=a description for blind people
    • Example
    • Click here for an exercise in adding images to articles.
  • Add headings with ==double equal signs==
    • If an article has sections two editors can edit different sections simultaneously without edit conflicts. Add enough sections and you get a contents section.
    • Click here for articles where you can practice adding sections when you've finished splitting an article into sections you can remove the code from the top of the page.
      • ===subheadings are similar===
  • When you add information to Wikipedia please precis things in your own words, and tell us where you got the information from in the following format
  • If you find unreferenced information on Wikipedia that you consider dubious or unlikely, first try to reference it with a search on the internet. If you know it is wrong correct it, if you can't find a source then fact adds the famous [citation needed]. If after a week no-one has referenced the information feel free to remove it.
  • Double single quotes gives you Italic and triple quotes Bold.
  • Help:Wiki markup has everything from hieroglyphs to mathematical notation
  • How to write a great article

But first please go to our class page and sign in with # ~~~~ I hope you enjoy the session and come back to Wikipedia again! ϢereSpielChequers 10:32, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Senate House meetup[edit]

Hi – thanks for your note; glad you enjoyed the day! Hope your researches into the de Montfichets are going well. One thing I forgot to mention is that the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography can be very useful for notable people even of that era; their website offers unlimited free online use to anybody with a library card from (I think) any county or local authority library. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 19:56, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information Hassocks5489, much appreciated! The East London Meetup 3 was last night and was very useful!

Armond Dean (talk) 10:08, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hassocks,

I just joined my local library and the card does work to give me access to the ODNB!

Thank you

Armond Dean (talk) 15:01, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was nice to meet you last week. If you have any questions shoot them over to me and I will try to give guidance.

Thisandthem (talk) 22:07, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind offer. I have started my fist article on the de Montfitchet family and will definitely take you up on your offer of assistance as soon as I get stuck!

Refugee Council Archive[edit]

I have created a page on the Wikimedia UK wiki where we can develop this event: wmuk:Projects in incubation/Refugee Council Archive. If you have not done so already you will need to create your account on the WMUK wiki. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Thryduulf (talk) 01:07, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
