Hey, I noticed that you just did the assessment for Craigflower Manor and Schoolhouse. I was wondering what you thought needed to be expanded in order for the article to advance to B class. --Haemo 23:23, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Party Colours

What is 3RR and why has Bearcat threatened to have me edit blocked? Schoeppe 15:30, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is the general consensus of the community? You and Bearcat are the only people with objections to my edits. Your earlier argument about legal entities wasn't correct. Bearcat misrepresented what I was trying to do with the colours. I still don't see how having the new CPC given a colour that is distinct from all previous Tory parties in Canada as accurate. My last changes merely matched the old CPC with the new. But Bearcat accused me of favouring with the Progressive Conservatives over the Canadian Alliance. Who is the arbiter of such matters? Schoeppe 15:50, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

British Monarchy

Artic.gnome: given your participation in the discussion at Talk:Monarchy in Canada regarding the separation of the Crown, you may want to offer your opinions at Talk:British monarchy#Personal union?, wherein two users are pushing the insertion of an edit that claims Canada and the other non-UK realms are under the sovereignty of the British Monarch. Cheers. --G2bambino 03:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just to make myself clear...

Of course it was a rhetorical question when I wrote "if it isn't a kingdom (small "k"), how come the Queen's website calls it a kingdom". Wasn't that clear? I understand fully that Canada is a kingdom. I find that that derives quite logically from the word kingdom itself and the definition of said word. Blur4760 22:30, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: edit to Culture of Canada and image size

Hi. You've tagged an image in Culture of Canada to announce that it is up for deletion, but in doing so you messed up the code for image size and made the image giant. Please double-check that your deletion warning are not messing up the page in the process. Thank you. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 16:16, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Canada-article lead

I'm having another go at a one-thing-at-a-time approach to editing the lead, beginning with whether or not the first paragraph should be exclusively geographic. Please look over how I've shown the views given so far, at the talkpage and ensure that yours is accurately shown by my treatment. Thanks. The goal, of course, is a definite result to build upon.

Canadian Coat of Arms

Hello Artic.gnome, I was wondering if you could help in regards to restoring a deleted image so that the copyright notice can be retrieved for a new version of the same image. User:Zscout370 create an svg version of the Canadian Coat of Arms Image:Coat of arms of Canada.svg from the png version Image:Bigcancoat.png, but as opposed to the copyright info that was on that page, he placed it under public domain, which I believe is a copyright violation, since it's like reproducting the NHL log and releasing under a different license (which is still a copyright violation) of the NHLs copyrights.

User:Cyde has since deleted the original image, stating that a free image now exists, and when I originally asked him about it, he just ignored me, and when I asked him to just restore the original image so that the copyright info can be moved, he also ignored the request. Fair use disputed for Image:John Babington Macaulay Baxter.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:John Babington Macaulay Baxter.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:23, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confederate government of Kentucky

Thanks for your comments on the FT nom of Confederate government of Kentucky. The thing has gone without comments for so long that I almost forgot about it! I notice that you indicated an intent to close the debate if no more comments were added in the next few days. Is it appropriate for me to ask what result you plan to close the debate with? Acdixon (talk contribs count) 14:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Thanks so much. I've never done an FT before, so I didn't know what was required for consensus. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 15:02, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Change to lead on Canada page

I actually tried to make a similar edit that was reverted, so I know that there are other editors who would oppose your edit. I wasn't aware that it had been discussed since then. For the record, I actually agree with the change, and would support it in a discussion.

However, I think there is a more important issue here. I'm involved in several debates involving contentious edits to long-standing lead paragraphs. Changes to the lead seem to trigger contentious edits that eat up editor time that could be better spent adding content. Often, these edits come from people pushing POV. Changing the lead like you did could provoke similar edits by people with less benign motives.

Canada is already a featured class article. I think editing the lead in an article that is already very high quality should require a larger consensus. The small improvements that edits like this make tend to be outweighed by the long and largely fruitless debates and edit wars they generate.

Right now on the talk page there is a debate on whether Canada should be referred to as a dominion in the lead, an issue that (I thought) was settled. This is considerably more contentious at the moment so please click here to comment

After settling this issue, I'd like to develop a similar consensus on the order of the paragraphs in the lead. Documenting a strong consensus on the issue (either way) will make it easier to maintain the page in the future. I won't revert the article again, but I encourage you to consider the longterm implications of keeping your edit. The edit probably will not last long, as another editor can just as easily change it back with the support of one or two other editors (moving paragraphs is very easy). You will have to spend (waste?) considerable time just monitoring the lead if you wish to keep the order of paragraphs.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought a complete explanation of my motives was necessary before any misunderstanding developed. Thanks. --Soulscanner 20:22, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination this year. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:07, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone find out what's wrong with my template?

The template {{WikiProject Canada}} has a gap below it, both in its full form (as here) and in its nested form (as here). Some users have tried to fix it, but to no avail. Can someone please figure out what's wrong with it? Thank you. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 19:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look and revised testcases and added sandbox with horizontal lines to highlight the problem. Yes definately extra white space below but it's NOT the template code emitting extra HTML. The problem has to be class= or style= values. – Conrad T. Pino 21:00, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll start tweaking that section until I figure out what's wrong. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 03:53, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How multiple classes are ordered matters.
class="abc xyz"
and
class="xyz abc"
can be radically different. – Conrad T. Pino 03:57, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like the extra spece came from the assignment of category classes for sub-projects (caned, ppap, etc). There was also a wrong colspan which caused the hide button to slide left when nested. Seems to work fine now. --Qyd 18:40, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Wikiproject Canada/testcases

Maybe the default for this should be set to class=|NA when the tests aren't being carried out, so that it doesn't appear permanently in the unassessed category. Or am I missing the point? Cheers, CP 14:54, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Featured List of the Day Experiment

I am contacting individuals in the order of the number of featured lists that they had created by Novemeber 10, 2007. You are among those who have created the most. So you are among the first. There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 16:58, 15 November 2007 (UTC) [reply]

WikiProject Canada/Assessment

Per your request at the bots requests page, Template:Canadian Music project has been migrated to "Template:Canadian Music project|music=yes". The only things left are project pages at this point. SkierRMH (talk) 18:10, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problemo, and as an admin, you have automatic permission to use it! It does have an 'admin' =yes feature (it uses the Internet Explorer interface, I believe), so any admin tasks (especially repetitive ones) can be done via the AWB interface (though i can't imagine using it for most things!). If you have any more of these that you need done, just let me know. Can't do the admin stuff yet (in process) but hope to do so soon. SkierRMH (talk) 22:17, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAN on hold till November 25, 2007. Can you pop in a few 3 or 4 inline citations here and there as noted on the talk page? And this article will be good to pass the GA nomination and I will list it. I placed it on hold for a bit. Give me a note when done. Good work on the article, very impressive. SriMesh | talk 03:30, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Award

A Barnstar!
The Golden Maple Leaf Award

--You have made an amazing amount of contributions towards achieving feature status for so many prominent CA articles, and helping out with the building of the Canadian Wikiproject areas. Thank you ~ you deserve this award.-- SriMesh

Hello there you have made some comments regarding the aforementioned template. There are some Wikiproject Canada Workgroups such as Law, Political parties and politicians, etc, who have added syntax to the Canadian template, rather than creating their own assessment template. None of the provinces have done that - may they? Out of 10 provinces and 3 territories only 3 provinces have their own assessment template, 6 provinces including SK do not do assessments, 2 work groups do their own assessments, 6 workgroups include syntax with Canada wikiproject, and 3 cities do not do assessments, and Vancouver does theirs. note Is it ever that a province would add their wikiproject as a syntax code to the Canada wikiproject? I am involved more with SK wikiproject than the other provinces. Is it OK to have a wikiproject banner that supports the structuring of articles without assessment, and just add the CA banner for the assessment process? Or should the SK wikiproject change their banner for the talk page to include assessment? I have added this query to the newsletter also - trying to consolidate articles and such for SK. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 19:37, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm actually the one who has been adding that functionality to the template and setting up assessment tables for the projects. I had always intended to eventually include the provincial projects to the template using the parameters "SK=yes", "ON=yes", etcetera. This would take a bit of time as it requires changing the template, setting up categories for the assessments, announcing the change, linking to the assessment table, writing importance criteria, and setting up a bot or auto wiki browser to change all of the outdated templates. I should be able to get around to it in a couple weeks if no one beats me to it. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 19:57, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Got your reply. It is cool that we are both thinking along the same lines, it seems just like I am a bit pokey - er. I can help with some of the set up work if that will help. I can't do robots as of yet, but I can make categories, tables, and pages if that helps with the set up. SriMesh | talk 20:17, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some of that stuff already has bots set up to do it, the main job that will need to be done is replacing all the old templates. I'll see if I can at least get Saskatchewan done so that you'll have something to work on. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 20:21, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. You can tag Saskatchewan articles with {{WikiProject Canada | sk=yes}}. Your assessment table is here; it will be updated once every couple days. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 20:40, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh My Goodness! You are speedy! You are absolutely amazing even! I am still reading about the various set ups which have taken place with the work groups, and you are done! Hokey dinah! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now another query which perhaps you can clarify. Before WP SK was set up, there was a SK roads wikiproject, which is now part of both WP SK and WikiProject Canada Roads. After WP SK was set up, then there was created a WikiProject Saskatchewan Communities & Neighbourhoods. What should these two other WP projects use on their talk pages, in your humble opinion? I will start doing the modifications to the wikiproject, newsletter and talk pages. SriMesh | talk 20:58, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense the note about the other WP. Thank you. SriMesh | talk 21:19, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I say we should wait and see whether the SK communities projects develops into something worthy of having its own category or whether it gets reabsorbed into something else. The Saskatchewan roads project was far more specific than it needed to be, and once I get roads added to the main template, those can be tagged as "roads=yes | sk=yes". The same may happen to the communities project, it may get absorbed into the general SK project or into a general "communities in Canada project" --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 21:04, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello- me again. I put a note on the robot board to do many items for WP SK Saskatchewan Wikiproject robot request as related to the Canada template banner. Is it OK, or should I remove till you are finished with your tinkering? Kind Regards JuliaSriMesh | talk 00:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Woodrow Stanley Lloyd.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Woodrow Stanley Lloyd.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. LOTD experiment

My userpage List of the Day experiment is getting under way at WP:LOTD. One of your lists has been nominated. I invite you to come by and represent it. If you would like to represent your list article please reformat your username in the table so it is normal sized. Among the things you may want to do to represent your list are:

  1. Change the image selection
  2. Add talk page projects to the list and then add them on the summary table
  3. Write a summary of the article in less than 500 characters. I will begin doing this later today for those who don't do it themselves.
  4. Participate in the feed back process when it starts on December 1.
  5. Participate in the voting when it starts on December 11.

You are free to remain uninvolved. Your list was chosen as being the first one produced by one of the most prolific successful FL nominators.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 18:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Thank you

Thank you very much. It's still a long road to bring all the assessments together, but we're getting there. --Qyd 03:12, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question: you added "Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Education in Canada articles by quality statistics" twice to the assessment tables. Was this on purpose? Cheers, CP 17:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
