Image:Usulutan flag.png listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Usulutan flag.png has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy (go around) 23:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Mississippi School Districts

In response to your message on my talk page, let me first say I am sorry that I have offended you. Such was not my intent. I am relatively new here and just started patrolling new pages in earnest, and I am still finding a comfort level with that.

That being said, I have to ask: Are you just adding articles about these districts because they exist, or is there something that makes them notable? Although some people insist the contrary is true, it is my understanding that WP is not a directory of school districts. Articles should indicate notability before they are posted; this is why a lack of asserted notability is one of the CSD.

There are many editors who develop their articles in notepad or /sandbox before posting them to the main space. We really have to have some minimum standards for articles so that WP is not diluted by filler. And I'm sure you've seen plenty of articles that are left by editors in the condition of these. How am I to know whether or not a particular editor understands that such articles should be expanded, and how am I to know that you are still working on an article? Patrolling new pages is hard work, even with the available utilities, but patrolling day or week old pages is much harder.

Anyway, if you are expanding the article, there's no problem, because it should survive AfD, and if you don't get to it in time, you can always recreate it later when you can do so in a form that overcomes any AfD objections.

Finally, as for agreeing with Metzenberg, when I tagged Jewish opposition to evolution for deletion (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jewish_opposition_to_evolution&oldid=115017545), it was a list of four sources, three stub tags and the words "Jewish opposition to evolution". There was no article content whatsoever. Shouldn't that come first? (Bizarrely, no content was included until almost an hour after the article was created, and then only after it had been tagged for deletion three times (twice by me, once by another editor). --Butseriouslyfolks 17:11, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Image:Nguessan.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Nguessan.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 22:21, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Location maps for towns in Zambia

I understand you produced the maps showing locations for towns in Zambia such as Samfya, Mporokoso, and others. These two towns, and a number of others are also administrative districts. I'm expanding their articles by adding a heading for the district and a paragrpah of text, so that the article covers both town and district in one. In most cases there won't be enough information to ever justify separate articles for town and district. Now the districts also have location maps made by User:Rarelibra. What I want to do is to replace the town location map with a version of the district location map which has the town location added. Is this okay with you? I know that all the regions have maps but they show the regions being part of Somalia when the region is actually in Somaliland. Yes thanks i would like capital maps like the examples you have shown but it would be better if the map of Somaliland is big and coloured in with nuetral clours. And I would like a main map for the article Somaliland which shows the regions and their regional capital. Thank you for your help, i really apreciate it.

P.S. INFORM ME ABOUT THE IDEAS I HAVE RECOMMENDED

Fair use rationale for Image:CUF partylogo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:CUF partylogo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:CUF partylogo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:CUF partylogo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:57, 16 May 2007 (UTC). List of Cities in Africa

A tag has been placed on List of cities in Africa, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Article already exists as a category

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. MarkBolton 08:12, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Celeste Independent School District, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Gouled.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gouled.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Fair use rationale for Image:MRGDC logo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MRGDC logo.png. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Maps of Eritrea

Hello Acntx,

I'm a user form the French Wikipedia, and currently translating articles about Eritrean regions from the English Wikipedia. I note you've created maps for each region of Eritrea, but these are only available on the English Wikipedia. Could you please upload these maps on Commons, in order to make them available for any Wikipedia ? Thanks a lot, --Bsm15 13:46, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, I've seen the maps similar to yours on Commons and I will use it. Thank you. --Bsm15 11:59, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Map of Kakamega

Couldn't you release the picture of Kakamega in the Commons Directory? I'd like to use that picture for the German WP entry on Kakamega. --129.187.15.113 23:30, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Metro Jackson Mississippi page

Hi. I noticed that you live in Texas. I live in Jackson and am trying to ensure that the Metro Jackson pages includes info about Jackson AND the metro area. There is a person who, for some reason, is dictating what can and cannot go on the Jackson, Mississippi page. For example, this person does not want any mention of ANYTHING based in the metro area and not exclusively in the city limits of Jackson included on the Jackson, Mississippi page (e.g., Mississippi Braves baseball team, Mississippi Brilla soccer team, La Noticia newspaper, etc.). Therefore, this Metro Jackson page is the ONLY way people can get other info pertinent to the Metro area listed on wikipedia without it being deleted by this self-proclaimed Jackson info gatekeeper. I would appreciate your not deleting info anymore from the Metro Jackson page. Thank you kindly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.249.208.98 (talk) 03:47, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

  • First of all anyone can edit any wikipedia article, no matter where you are from. Second, you copied and pasted most, if not all of the Jackson, Mississippi article in the middle of the information that was already there (splitting the community section into two parts – one at the top and another at the end). You also disregarded the information that was already there. For instance, the demographics for the metropolitan area are now at the bottom of the page after the demographics from the city of Jackson, which you copied to the page. If I, a registered wikipedia user, did this to another metropolitan area's page, it would be reverted quickly and I would be warned to stop vandalizing the page. Instead of using an INSULTING tone and name-calling, maybe you should take the time and look at other U.S. metropolitan area articles and see that none of them has the main city’s page duplicated on it. --Acntx 10:43, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

West Tennessee edits

Thanks for the extra work (you did miss Deanburg, though). I will admit that the concept of "the Jackson-Humboldt Consolidated Statistical Area" still bemuses this ol' boy no end. The idea of Deanburg, Pinson, etc. as commuter suburbs of burgeoning Jackson doesn't match my boyhood memories, to say the least; but then, I left in 1977. --Orange Mike 15:56, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:GCRPC logo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GCRPC logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. PxMa 19:09, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
