Warning over abusive language[edit]

I am warning you over your language while editing the page for Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in referring to another editor as an 'annoying troll' in your description of an edit. This language is uncalled for and insulting. If you continue to use abusive language on Wikipedia you will be banned from editing. You joined Wikipedia two days ago, you have completed one edit, and you are claiming that another editor is annoying you with repetitive behaviour. If you have a problem with another editor please discuss it on the talk page. If you wish to change the photo then raise the issue on the talk page, and first reach a consensus about it.

Yes, see the policy linked here WP:CIVIL. If you don't follow it an admin may block you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:08, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, don't try to threaten me.
Secondly, I spoke the truth, it makes no sense to post the single worst picture of the former president currently on campaigner for re election - the person do that is clearly being troll. Abdallem (talk) 12:02, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Buddy, stop changing the picture back and forth, the picture your posting is butt ugly, hideous and unprofessional.
I'm asking you nicely to stop changing it. Abdallem (talk) 12:05, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why you think the picture is bad. I do not agree with you on these matters. I certainly don't think the picture is 'ugly, hideous and unprofessional' as you put it. I think the opposite. As we have different opinions, being rude and calling me a 'troll' is not going to solve that. Can you try to behave more diplomatically about it please? I have put a lot of work into improving this page over the last four years, and you have just appeared with a brand new profile on Wikipedia, very shortly before the election date, trying to push your opinions with rudeness. It would be far better to reach consensus by finding other editors who agree with you than to be rude and insulting. If you continue to behave in such a rude and insulting manner you will be blocked. It is not a threat it is a fact. Amirah talk 13:02, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
the person do that is clearly being troll That'll be me. (I uploaded it two months ago) The image you kept inserting (File:Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, 12th AU Summit, 090202-N-0506A-337-2.jpg) is too bright and too yellow. After adjusting it correctly from the original you end up with this, but the 2012 photo is more recent and doesn't feature the ugly white earphone. Anyway, your display is probably broken. Order a new one. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 15:06, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Listen buddy, drop your nonesene threats, there are thousands of pictures of the former president, for whatever reason, you have elected to choose the single worst picture imaginable, the lighting is off, the picture was taking at weird angle and a weird moment, he simlple looks unwell, consitapitated and inhuman.

The fact that you choose that picture for his wiki page shows your Ill intentions.

I'm not that bothered if you go with a different picture, 1 thats more fair to the former president whose currently campaigning for his re-election. Abdallem (talk) 14:12, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey drinking buddy! No idea who you're talking to, I didn't threaten you. I don't even know the guy. I just do pictures. Those "thousands of pictures" are worthless. Only freely licensed material is acceptable in this case. When I saw the 2009 photo on the article two months ago with the ugly white earphone and incorrect brightness, I checked c:Category:Sharif Sheikh Ahmed for something better and found File:Somali President Sheik Sharif visits Balad Town 12 (7703057976).jpg which I felt was the best picture in the category. Other images that could work:
Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 23:04, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion there was nothing wrong with the picture, but as you didn't like it Abdallem I asked Sheikh Sharif's associates to upload more recent pictures to Wikimedia Commons. I will speak to Sharif about it myself and the way you have expressed your opinion, which has been very rude despite me having asked you several times, to tone it down. you make it clear that you have little experience of editing Wikipedia when you say there are thousands of pictures we could have used. We depend on photographers to upload pictures and release the rights before we can use them. So you jumped to conclusions about bad faith and used it as an excuse to be rude to people, who for no material return have spent their time and effort trying to help improve the photo WP:GF. Please try to imagine how people feel when you treat them like that and also remember this is a public place where anybody can read the things you have said. Wikipedia editors are unpaid members of the public and yet you have insulted them with terms like 'childish' and 'unprofessional' when you are the one who is making the false assumptions. Insha'Allah, when Sharif wins the elections, then we shall upload a new photograph of him as president. So let's not fight with each other. Amirah talk 01:23, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@AmirahBreen: Tell them to mail any pictures to OTRS instead and follow the instructions from OTRS. Just uploading to Commons will result in deletion. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 06:55, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Alexis Jazz, I understand why.

Even within Wikimedia commons there are far better pictures than the one you've elected to choose for him as his main Wikipedia page image, wallahi it shows your true childish hateful nature if you think that hideous, unflattering and unprofessional picture from almost a decade ago should be a current representation of the former president.

And a nobody like you doesn't not have access or way of communicating to the former president and his team, so please dont come here lying so unnecessarily.

A new picture has just been added to Wikimedia common, the picture was taken a few month ago, it's recent, professional and fair picture of the sheikh Sharif, I asked that you guys stop changing it. Abdallem (talk) 07:12, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's also copyvio. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 07:52, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 07:50, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop being difficult and choose a professional picture for the former president of Somalia, that current image you keep re-uploading is disgusting and unfair to sheikh Sharif Abdallem (talk) 14:28, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Abdallem Uploading a more recent photo to Wikimedia Commons was a start, but we need one which has not been taken from a source which causes copyright violation. Please understand. I think we would all like a more recent photo of Sheikh Sharif on his Wikipedia bio, one that looks professional and does justice to the former President, but there is red tape which we need to get around to make this happen. If I say here that I would contact Himilo Qaran and ask to talk to Sharif himself about it, then the other editors will be accusing me of 'Conflict of Interest'. I had been trying to update that photo for a long time when Alexis Jazz very kindly tried to help by uploading the Balad Town one. It would be a much better solution to get a more recent one, rather than going further back in history to put the older one back up. It just needs to be done by someone who has the copyrights to the photo which they are uploading and can prove that. If it is from their own camera and has never been published online that would help, but even then it may be questioned as to whether you were actually at the event where it was taken and how can you prove it, are you a member of the press etc. and you may need to discuss the answers by email (not publicly here on Wikipedia). The photo you uploaded claiming it was your work was apparently a still from a video which can be found on YouTube. 'Your work' means you have to have actually taken the photo yourself, not that you clipped it from a video which you don't have the copyright for. The photo you uploaded has been nominated for deletion on Wikimedia Commons because of this. When you think about it, it is only fair that whoever takes a photo gets credit for it, and can decide if they are willing for it to be re-used free of charge on Wikipedia. Wikipedia takes this issue very seriously. If you have the talent as a photographer to take such a professional looking picture, then you should be given that respect to decide if you release the rights to publish it and acknowledgement to you as a photographer. For a really good photo of Sharif the copyright holders are asking thousands of pounds for the right to re-use it. Amirah talk 15:16, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please listen to the above. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:31, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Listen, that is all well and good, as I have stated to you before, there are far better pictures of the former president of Somalia even within the Wikimedia commons. if you are claiming that you can get in contact with Sharif and his team (which I doubt) then that's good, but till they actually manage to upload an actual picture that is inline with Wikipedia regulation, I advise that you stop being difficult and simply choose a different picture.

That hideous picture that keeps being re-uploaded is totally unacceptable, it is the single worst pic imaginable and its certainly not a fair representation of sheikh Sharif.

The previous image which you guys have complained about with the headphones, was an iconic image of him, it was the main Wikipedia image for a long time, a single person decided they didn't like for whatever reason and replaced it with that hideous thing, which i suspect was done for unprofessional reasons.

If there is an issue with the newly uploaded conference pic, that's fine I'll use a different picture from Wikimedia commons, till you get Sharif to upload a more recent picture as you claim, we kindly ask to not re-upload that other disgusting picture. Abdallem (talk) 17:22, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Considering how you feel about the Balad Town picture Abdallem than I will go with your decision. I still don't understand why you thought it was hideous, but can assure you it was not done with any deliberate ill intent. Wikipedia editors are not paid professionals, they are members of the public and anyone can edit Wikipedia. I cannot guarantee how other editors will react to your new choice of photo, but there is still a discussion on the talk page if there are any further issues. Thank you for your understanding. Amirah talk 18:23, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for understanding Amirah, that balcad picture is just hideous, and he looks worried and consitapitated, its not a suitable picture of someone who was and will lkkely become president of a whole country.
All we ask is that a suitable picture that is fair to him is used. Abdallem (talk) 19:09, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
a single person decided they didn't like for whatever reason and replaced it with that hideous thing, which i suspect was done for unprofessional reasons.
Jimmy doesn't pay me enough to be professional. (Jimmy pays me nothing at all!) The color balance on the 2009 image was wrong and that ugly white plastic earphone wasn't exactly flattering. He looks arguably more "worried" on the 2012 image, but that's neither a good or a bad thing. If anything, I think it makes him look more wise. (I have no idea how wise he is, I don't speak Somali) He doesn't look "consitapitated" on either image. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 20:26, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, he is not 'consitapitated', he is just deep in thought. However, you may be right about the worried expression. I have a slight tendency to be alexithymic which may explain the reason why I just cannot see the picture from the same point of view. If you are appealing the block you are welcome to mention this.
