Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Fashion. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Re [1] "Femto -- with what authority are you modifying the fashion pages?"

With the authority of the aforementioned policies and content guidelines, and a lack of consensus on your part to reinclude these inappropriate links. Femto 14:37, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are in mistaken; these links are not inappropriate, and they are not spam. Moreover, I did not add these links, but merely put them back. As you will see, they have been up on this page for more than half a year.

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Fashion, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing anyone from linking to them from any site that uses the MediaWiki spam blacklist, which includes all of Wikimedia and Wikipedia. The length of time links have been there is a complete irrelevance as far as deciding whether they are spam or not. I strongly urge you to take the trouble to actually read through WP:EL, which provides the basis for deciding the matter. --Stephen Burnett 08:39, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stephen Burnett: I read WP:EL and see no reason why not to include fashion.net and wwd.com; these links are not spam, but useful references for the non-academic. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.235.142.94 (talkcontribs).

They are not references, they are mere web directory links, with no encyclopedic content. There's even an article on Fashion Net, which makes an external link doubly inappropriate; internal links are always preferred. Besides, it will suffice that so far there is a 2:1 consensus not to include these links. If you want to read things into WP:EL that aren't there, fine, but at least please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Consensus. Femto 10:31, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
