If you're reading this page, it's likely that I have recently deleted a page that you created. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, and some articles are simply unsuitable for publication here. If you visit the deleted page that you created, you will see in the edit summary the reason for deletion. Before visiting my talkpage, please see whether one of the explanations below answers your question.

If the reason given for deletion was A7:

Your submission did not indicate why the subject was notable enough for inclusion. Wikipedia's primary inclusion guideline is notability, which, on this site, means coverage in reliable, independent sources (such as newspapers, magazine articles, television programmes, research papers, books or reliable websites). At the very least, an article should give some reason why its subject is significant or important. The pages you should read before trying to resubmit the article are: Notability and Reliable sources.

If the reason given for deletion was G11:

Your article read like an attempt to promote or advertise the subject. Wikipedia is not a promotional medium. If the text of your submission would not have seemed out of place on the subject's CV, website or press releases, it was probably inappropriately promotional. You may also have included inappropriate external links to the subject's website(s). It's possible that you are the subject of the article, or that you work for or otherwise have a close connection to it. Before resubmitting the article, you should read the following: Words to watch, Don't write an autobiography, Advertising, Conflict of interest guidelines, Paid-editing disclosure and Wikipedia is not a soapbox.

If the reason given for deletion was G12:

Your submission contained a substantial amount of text which appeared to have been directly copied from a book, article or another website. Because Wikipedia's content is released under a very specific licence, we cannot accept text which is already copyrighted under a different licence.

It may be that you yourself own the copyright on the text. If this is the case (and if the text is not unsuitable for any other reason), you can donate it to Wikipedia or release it under an appropriate free licence (these are CC-BY-SA or GNU Free Documentation License). Doing so will allow anyone to alter and reuse your content (with attribution) for any purpose, including commercially. If the reason given for deletion was G4:

A page similar or identical to the one you created previously existed on Wikipedia, and was deleted by community consensus after a deletion discussion. The deletion notice should contain a link to this discussion; if it does not, run a search for "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/name of your article" and you should find it. Unless new evidence is available that negates the reason for deletion, you should not attempt to recreate the page. If the reason given was something else:

The above are the most commonly used criteria for speedy deletion, but there are others that may crop up from time to time. You can read the full policy on their use here. Check the list of deletion criteria for the letter/number combination referenced in the deletion notice - an explanation of the criterion in question should be there.

Next steps

You have several options available to you now that the page has been deleted. If after reading the above you still disagree with the deletion, please contact me on my talkpage and explain your reasoning. If I've made a mistake, I will restore the page myself. In the event that we continue to disagree, you can report my actions at Deletion review so that uninvolved admins can examine the situation. You can also make a request for undeletion if you want the deleted content restored to a page in your userspace or emailed to you.

If you think you can address the reasons for deletion in a new version of the article, you can recreate it without asking my permission. However, I would strongly suggest you do this either at Articles for creation (which allows other editors to review your submission before it is published) or in your sandbox, rather than in article space. Repeatedly recreating unsuitable articles is considered disruptive, and can lead to your account being blocked from editing altogether.

If you think that your topic is notable, but you are concerned that you aren't the right person to create an article on it (either because you do not feel confident with Wikipedia processes, or because of a conflict of interest) you can log it at Requested articles, so that other editors can try creating the page instead.
