ParentTarget Corporation

Target Canada Co. was the Canadian subsidiary of the Target Corporation, the second-largest discount retailer in the United States. Speculation regarding Target's interest in purchasing the Zellers discount store chain from the Hudson's Bay Company first circulated in 2004. Rather than purchasing the entire company, Target ultimately acquired the leaseholds of several Zeller locations in January 2011.

Target Canada was headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, and opened its first stores on 5 March 2013 in Ontario. The subsidiary was notoriously unsuccessful; it suffered from its overly-aggressive expansion initiative, in addition to higher prices and lesser product selection than Target stores in the United States. Target Canada operated 133 locations by the time it filed for bankruptcy in January 2015; its final stores were closed on 12 April 2015.
