From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tiraera (Puerto Rican slang for "throwing", as in throwing shots at each other) is the equivalent of a Beef in Hip Hop. The difference between a beef and tiraera, is that tiraera only occurs in the Latino Urban genres, most notably Reggaetón. In tiraera, rival artists create diss tracks against each other.

Current tiraera wars[edit]

King of Reggaetón (Old School)[edit]

In the early 90's many pioneers of the Reggaetón genre were considered the "King of Reggaetón". Such artists have included El General and Vico C.[1]

King of the Street[edit]

In the mid and late 90's, it was known as the "King of the Street", with artists Tempo and Lito y Polaco as major contenders for the title . This was never resolved due to the incarceration of Tempo in 2002[2] .

King of Reggaeton (New School)[edit]

Daddy Yankee vs Don Omar[edit]

In 2004, what was once a good friendship turned into quite possibly the greatest and most scandolous rivarly in reggaeton history. Don Omar and Daddy Yankee, two of the greatest figures of modern reggaeton history and once frequent collaborators (singing together in songs such as "La Noche Esta Buena and Gata Gangster" and appearing in one anothers' videos), had suddenly started throwing diss tracks at each other. Don Omar alleges that Daddy Yankee had disrespected him in a concert and Daddy Yankee denies this saying that Don Omar just insulted him out of envy . This has caused a split in the reggaeton world and artists started to side with the two rappers . Artists such as Hector El Father, Yomo, MC Ceja, and Polaco (of Lito y Polaco) have sided with Daddy Yankee. Mario VI and Marvin of VI Music, Cosculluela, Wiso G, and Arcángel have sided with Don Omar. Many other rappers quickly became neutral in the war, working for both sides like Zion, Lennox, Rakim & Ken-Y, Tito "El Bambino", and among others. Some artists have also criticized this war saying the genre shouldn't be about fame and should unite to make Reggaeton even bigger such as Tego Calderón and Voltio, two artists who were involved in the Pina Records vs. White Lion war.In late 2008 Don Omar and Daddy Yankee haved ended the tiraera in a concert.

Wisin & Yandel Vs. Don Omar[edit]

A tiraera war started when Don Omar started calling himself the "rey of reggaeton." This is a war that stopped, and started again. The war ended when Wisin & Yandel and Don Omar made No Se De Ella MySpace.

Baby Records vs. WY Records[edit]

Another popular tiraera war was being held between Zion's (of Zion y Lennox fame) Baby Records and Wisin & Yandel's WY Records. Artists like Franco "El Gorilla" and Arcángel had already released songs aiming at one another.[3] But this war was ended in a Don Omar concert in Puerto Rico when Don Omar brought Arcángel out after Franco performed. The two made peace and Wisin declared that the war was over.

Other tiraera wars[edit]
