Modern themes in Odissi[edit]

In beginning the performers of odissi danced in the tune of ancient odia songs. The Gitagovindam of Jayadeva had become the tunic medium of odissi dancers. The dancers started to dance with the song from the theme of different parts of Gitagovindam.
