Plaxis (sometimes stylised PLAXIS, originally an abbreviation of Plasticity Axi-Symmetry) is a series of programmes performing finite element analyses for a wide range of static and dynamic geotechnical problems, developed by the private company Plaxis BV, which is seated in the Dutch city of Delft. The programmes include Plaxis 2D and 3D, for two- and three-dimensional problems, respectively.

Professor Steinar Nordal at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology noted that Plaxis's simplicity and calculation robustness were among its advantages compared to its competitors.[1] In 2015, Plaxis was ranked fourth in the list of innovative software companies published by the organization Netherlands ICT, based upon revenue size, sales growth, level of recurring revenues and the degree of internationalisation.[2]
