User:SportingFlyer/GNIS Cleanup

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is intended to help clean up non-notable, bulk-generated GNIS stubs. The GNIS is a place names database for the United States, and many articles have been created directly from that database. The database has entries for pretty much anything that's ever been on a map in the US and has not proven reliable for determining whether something passes WP:GEOLAND.

The difficulty with procedural/bulk nominations is that it's often difficult to tell whether something has been comprehensively searched to see if it's notable. WP:GEOLAND is a very low notability standard.

Example[edit]

  • SportingFlyer: Searched Newspapers.com, Google, topo maps, no non-directory hits, appears to be a wash without any evidence of any settlement at any point. Strong delete
