Next September is an American alternative rock / metal band that formed over the internet in 2009. The group was formed by Jon Pruett (vocals/guitar), Joe Tash (guitars / production), and Steve Underwood (drums/percussion). Pruett, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was serving in the United States Army and stationed overseas, when Tash and Underwood, carpenters from Chicago, Illinois, found videos of his live performances on the popular video streaming website YouTube. Tash and Underwood, at that time, were seeking a lead vocalist for the musical project they were developing, and felt that Pruett was the perfect candidate.

The musicians then began exchanging their respective recorded parts over the internet and compiling them into professional musical compositions. Then in March of 2010, the group, under pressure from a battle of the bands competition, decided to make their existence known to the world and to the online fan bases that they had each, individually, acquired. To do this, the group released the demo versions of their songs “Earthquake” and “Your Time to Shine” ahead of schedule.

Next September has a diverse, densely layered, and instrument-heavy sound, containing elements of alternative rock, gothic rock, heavy metal, psychedelic rock, and arena rock. Front-man Jon Pruett is the group's primary songwriter—but the roots of many of the group's songs can be attributed to any one of the members. Next September’s inspirational driving force varies between Pruett’s thought-provoking lyrics and filling guitar riffs, Tash’s guitar-shredding and production, and Underwood’s phenomenal percussion-work . Fans online have described the group as "godlike" and “epic.”

Next September is currently developing their freshman demo effort (Currently Unnamed); which is expected to be released in late 2010.
