The Farnham Astronomical Society was founded in 1971 by a group of keen local amateur astronomers with the aim of promoting and furthering interest in the night sky and all things astronomy amongst the people of North Hampshire and West Surrey.

The Farnham Astronomical Society meets in the Willis Hall, Church Crookham on the second Tuesday of every month. The Society also has an active outreach programme.

The society is fortunate to have access to the historic Aldershot Observatory. Although this observatory is owned by the British Army, members of the Farnham Astronomical Society have been active in bringing this telescope back into use after some years of neglect. The Observatory houses a magnificent 8” refractor built by Thomas Grubb (Grubb Telescope Company). The future of the Observatory is in some doubt due to plans to develop the surrounding barracks and sports fields.

The Farnham Astronomical Society is affiliated to the Federation of Astronomical Societies and the Southern Area Group of Astronomical Societies (SAGAS).
