Key Industries is a nonprofit organization located in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Founded in 1974, Key Industries specializes in providing work and volunteer opportunities, education, and social development for adults with disabilities.[1]
The work opportunities comprise the creation of promotional products such as silkscreening, embroidery, laser engraving, graphic design, packaging and assembly. In May 2009, Key Industries employed 38 people and served 111 clients.[1] The organization is sponsored by the Saint John and Lancaster Kiwanis clubs.[1]
2008 expansion[edit]
This is an opportunity to invest in the wonderful work they do here. They work with people with special needs who don't have all the same opportunities the rest of us have in society – and I think it's tremendous. And they make a valuable contribution to society. So anything we can do to enhance that, I think it's well-placed government money.

In 2008, Key Industries relocated from Kiwanis Court to the former location of Saint John Energy on Charlotte Street because of the increasing demand for services.[1] In October 2008, the Telegraph-Journal wrote that "Deputy Mayor Emil Olsen and councillors Gerry Maher and Pierre Rioux had high praise for the organization".[2] The organization requested $15,000 over a span of three years to help it relocate.[3] In October 2008, the council asked the finance committee to review the request,[2] and in December of the same year, Quispamsis awarded $5,000 to Key Industries to help the organization refurbish its building.[3]
The refurbishment of the building has a projected cost of $2.4 million. The provincial government gave $950,000 to the centre, and Saint John pledged to contribute $150,000 over the course of four years. In May 2009, MP Rodney Weston declared that the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency had awarded $300,000 to Key Industries for a second round of expanding the organization's building.[1]
