The Bantam War (Dutch: Oorlog te Bantam) was a conflict between the Sultanate of Banten forces led by Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa or known as Abulfatah and the Dutch East India Company forces assisted by Sultan Haji of Banten, the crown prince and son of Ageng. The war broke out in 1656 when Ageng forces under his command attacked Dutch ships and plantations in Bantam which led to the Dutch counterattack assisted by Ageng's own son whom the Dutch had already favored to be in power.

Finally, with the defeat of Ageng's forces, the installation of Haji as Sultan supported by the VOC gave power to the company in monopolizing the region, despite several failed peace treaties made during the war, the conflict was ended in 1683. This war weakened the position of the Banten sultanate as once the most influential Muslim trading empire in Java.
