Quantum mechanics[edit]

The theory of quantum mechanics is consistent with the observation of wave-particle duality. The Schrodinger equation predicts the probability of observing a particle at a point in space as the squared magnitude of a wave at that point. With very low intensity sources individual events are observed, each governed by the same equation. After many events, the observed spatial pattern of the events matches the predictions of the equation. Individual quanta appear localized, but the overall spatial pattern matches wave propagation.
